Wanderer Quad Folding Camp Cart $109.99 (Was $159.99) + Delivery / C&C @ Macpac

120

Missed out on the last time this was on sale so I kept an eye on it. Not sure when the sale ends but I just ordered one and for me anyway it was showing stock in all Brisbane Stores. I wouldn't use postage as it isn't cheap.

Hopefully it helps out some of you that were in the same boat as me. Cheers!

"Designed for camping convenience, the Wanderer folding camp cart is strong and durable — perfect for carting loads of gear across to your campsite from the car or taking the kids' toys, towels and snacks down to the beach. Made from tough polyester fabric and a strong powder-coated steel frame, this collapsible cart weighs approximately 12.8 kg and has a maximum weight capacity of 110 kg. The telescopic handle and large, detachable wheels makes pulling the cart over uneven and sandy ground easy, plus when it's time to go home and store your camping gear, this cart collapses down into a more compact size. Please note, this cart is not designed to transport children or adults."

They obviously haven't been down to the beach recently because I have definitely seen children in them! :D

  • Those wheels look like they'd just drag on the sand. Anyone tried this cart on the beach care to share their opinion?

    • Also keen to know

      • I had the red and now own the blue. The latter is much better, although I haven’t tried on sand. The red’s plastic wheels were really noisy on urban terrain. They had a really terrible design where the wheels were held in place by a paperclip like pin. Folded up it was huge.

The blue has rubber wheels so quiet on urban terrain, wheels lock in without any flimsy clips, folds up into a small package.

The bottom panel of the blue appears just as solid as the red.

Overall so much happier, even with the additional cost. Red cost me $69. Blue cost $109.

  • Just looking at the pics it doesn't look as though it has a solid bottom, so I imagine it would be really uncomfortable to sit in. I've seen them around but never examined one up close.

Edit: just to add the only review from that page:

"Boy was I impressed at the size and ruggedness of this thing! After unloading and opening it up for the first time I was thrilled at just how practical it would be lugging around gear with ease for many an occasion. Opens up larger than expected and massive wheels for tough terrain got me pumped. The build looked solid and I was ready to tackle the outdoors. Little did I know that after walking barely 10m that one of the screws folding the frame for the base would pop out. I discovered this after much difficulty lugging the cart back to the car with the arm dragging and getting caught on the tyre and ground constantly as I kept reseating it. I was ridiculously lucky to find the screw on the path near the car and after getting home to fix, noticed another two screws holding the base frame were also loose. The crew at Macpac were fantastic over the phone and in-person and swapped this faulty item over with a new one. I figured it was random bad luck but upon inspection of the replacement, 2 of the 4 base arm screws are loose on the new one unused. They don't tighten and just thread. It's a manufacturing/design fault in my opinion. Some screws on this are countersunk and are tightly held. The 4 screws that hold the base arms are not countersunk and don't fully hold through. I'm debating right now whether to return it or get handy and with some locktite or even a longer set of screws, maybe some nuts/bolts. If I keep it (I really want to love this awesome looking thing) and don't opt for the refund, it will be a mod. Either way it's a third trip to somewhere. Buy at your own risk, and if you do, you will need to do something about those 4 screws."

    • That's one review! It does have a solid bottom and my 3 year old loves sitting in it.

I got this cart in the last deal and it amazing from the couple of times that I've used it. I can't necessarily vouch for it's long term durability but we are a) able to pack a huge amount of stuff in to it and b) haul it no issues along the beach due to it's huge wheels.

I wasn't passing judgement… I was just sharing information available on the page. Ouch!

      • Heck, I'd buy one if I had somewhere to store it! It looks good.

I have this. It is bigger and more robust than many others. Base has folded hard panel that can be removed and wraps around cart when folded. Wheels are very big and ran smoothly although they are like a solid plastic rather than rubber. They can be removed easily for storage. I have only used it on grass so far so can't talk about sand but if this doesn't work on sand not many others will.
Overall I would be happy to recommend it.
