Nice, should be able to get 15% cashback on the purchase of Coles Myer gift cards.

    • That would be nice!

I just brought a gift card with my Visa and got the confirmation email a few minutes later

        • Can confirm. Bought a gift card and it triggered the email from Cashrewards.

          • @t25: Was the amount tracked including or excluding GST?

            • @delben: GST is not payable when you purchase a gift card. GST is only payable if you redeem the gift card on a transaction that attracts GST.

  • OOoh. yeah, it says instore as well…

Can I link a prepaid coles mastercard to CR?

    • Short answer: No

Long answer: According to Cashrewards’ T&Cs

      • Visa- and MasterCard-branded gift cards are classified as an Excluded Visa or MasterCard card. (Clause 22.2.5)
      • Any in-store transactions paid using an Excluded Visa or MasterCard card are ineligible for cashback. (Clause 8.8.2)
      • Thanks. I suppose it'll be a $133.50 gift card instore on my existing registered (normal) card.

Reminder this is in store only. Online has 15% only on 3 products.

    • Cashrewards website says it's only elegible till 17th March for online, I'm asking this because flybuys has a 2000 points offer for online only deal till 21st.

  • How do you use CR in-store? Edit Link card, easy done.

  • I paid with my debit card with paywave option but it didn't tracked… I check the receipt it says eftpos sav on it. Is that means I won't get the cashback? Thanks

    • PayWave should go thru the credit system. Since the merchants get charged the credit fee even for debit card payWave.

I played it safe and insert my card when doing this type of deals to be sure.

Not with Least Cost Routing, Coles group has been known to implement this option. If you have paid using PayWave with Debit card it will go through as Saving i.e EFTPOS network. Even if you insert the card it will go through as Saving

If you have HSBC you will lose 2% cashback as well. The only way to avoid this is using Android Pay/Apple Pay but this will also have another issue since the card number will be the virtual card number not your actual card number. It will be different with the linked card number so I'm not sure it will track.

        • So the only way to get cashback is using credit card not debit card? Thanks

        • +1

Can confirm that loading your card onto Google Pay and PayWaving with a phone does not affect the tracking. I've done this multiple times with my virtual card and had the CR email come through shortly after. Cannot confirm for Apple Pay but would expect it to be similar.

          • @daanish: Thank you. I wasn't sure about Google pay because it didn't mention on T's & C's. Will try this method next time.

            • @MiNaW: Just tried with Google pay and it tracked within 5 mins :)

use apple pay or google pay debit card paywave, that will route via the credit networks (visa or mastercard), unless you pre-select eftpos sav in apple pay.

        • I am not too sure if the credit option will show if you insert the debit card. Maybe someone can confirm that.

          • @samehada: It does at Coles, which is another store in Coles Group, so I would be surprised if it is not the same at First Choice Liquor.

As far as I am aware, least cost routing is only supposed to change the default processing network for payWave/PayPass transactions from Visa/MasterCard to EFTPOS. It shouldn’t be taking away the option to pay with Visa/MasterCard.

  • I was so surprised that this offer was not that popular considering 15% disc for coles myer gift card

    • Yeah! Then again, I think not many know about First Choice/Vintage Cellars having Coles Myer gift cards on offer.

    • I think it’s because it’s not really a guaranteed 15% discount, considering the things that can go wrong with cashbacks via Cashrewards.

  • Hmm - paid with tap on credit card (pure credit card, no associated savings a/c or debit function).
Still has not tracked, will just give it a couple of days.

    • It’s been a couple of days and my purchase hasn’t tracked either, so you’re not the only one.

    • Check your receipt if it says eftpos on it. If so you're out of luck… better use Google pay next time to be safe

      • I paid for my purchase on a card with no EFTPOS facilities, so it was definitely processed as a credit transaction. It even says on the receipt “CREDIT ACCOUNT”.

It sucks that Cashrewards has given potentially misleading advice in regards to suggesting people to use payWave/PayPass for in-store purchases that can be tracked by Cashrewards, as Wesfarmers and Coles Group have been known for rolling out least cost routing across their stores over the last 18 months or so.

  • I checked the CashRewards site today after my purchases are not tracking.

    https://www.cashrewards.com.au/first-choice-liquor/in-store
"Gift card purchases are ineligible for cashback."

    • They added that clause yesterday. It definitely wasn’t there when I checked the site yesterday morning.

  • My transaction has tracked. Yippee.

    • Tracked is only one step, you still need it to be approved.

I remember buying gift cards from Dan Murphys and the transaction tracked, but later got rejected because it was a gift card transaction.
