[MELB] Toshiba Region Switchable Blu-Ray Player BDX1200KY $79.99 at Costco

270

For those who missed out on this at Harvey Norman for $88 a few weeks ago, just saw a stack of these at Costco today, probably about 15-20 on the shelf. I may get flamed because Costco is members only, but I reckon most people would know at least one person who has a Costco card they could borrow.

This is one of the few brand name BD players that is region free for DVD AND region switchable for Blu-ray, great if you want to pick up cheap Blu-rays from overseas online stores like Amazon.

For more info and discussion, here is the link to the previous Harvey Norman post:

    which Costco is this?

    • +1

      Obviously Docklands, Melb.

  • Anyone know if prices differ from Costco to Costco?

    • I know the Roomba 530's were cheaper in Sydney than Melbourne at one point but that was not long after Sydney opened so it may have been some sort of local special. Failing cases like that I think pricing is fairly uniform.

just to let people who dont have costco membership (me) it costs $60.

I'm not a member either, but like I said, you should be able to find someone who is a member and borrow their card for a day, unless you are a Scotty (as in "Scot no mates").

I think at Checkout staff look at picture on the back of the card.
Here is another way. Signup for a member > then get a refund On Membership: We will refund your membership fee in full at any time if you are dissatisfied.

I got a membership kept it for almost a year then got the full refund, was a pretty painless process too.

This is the same Blu-ray player I got from Myer (in Oct 11 - can't find the Oz Bargain link) when it was on special. I've been happy with it and have watched region A and B discs with no problem (switching simply in the menu each time not hacky timed key codes needed). It's not 3D capable but did come with a HDMI cable (If 3D is a must seek out BDX3200KY).

    • Mine didn't come with an HDMI cable. I got mine from Harvey Norman. Was the HDMI cable inside the sealed box, or did the Myer clerk bundle the cable for you?

  • Great player…fast loading of Blu Ray discs and plays the Star Wars titles with ease which was the reason I upgraded from my old player which had trouble.

  • Can u please tell me where the machine is made?

    • I'm guessing China.

      • yeah THERE, I checked the back of the machine.

      • Like there was any other possible option lol

Malaysia which I pretty much prefer. :)

Very good price but CostCo is too far.

I end up getting mine from Myer Online $103 (free shipping). http://shop.myer.com.au/shop/en/myeronline/au-toshiba-bluray…

  • I believe this is the same as the Soniq B100 from JB Hifi which is similarly priced. The factory menu and the code 8520 is almost identical aside from the menu colors. Just sharing FWIW

    • Good point…the remote controls are identical too! But the Toshiba is performing a lot better than my old Soniq used to.

  • Bought one from Harvey Norman for $88 yesterday, asked the clerk if he could still do that price (it was $119), and bingo. :)
No Costco in Bris, so not upset about 10% cheaper.

Got the last unit from HN Indooroopilly. Also, no stock at Oxley.

  • Anyone seen this at Costco in Sydney?

  • Went to Costco in Auburn/Lidcombe(sydney) last week, it was $79. Not sure if the price is changed.
