I'm not sure if there is much of an upgrade here.

Gen 1 has bigger battery, bigger platform to stand on, higher handles for more stability and far longer range.

Gen 2 pros are it's weighs lighter and can speed up to max capped speed slightly faster than Gen 1.

    • Also (coming from a Gen 1), apparently the Gen 2 motor can maintain consistent top speeds at all battery charge levels whereas the Gen 1 max speed drops with battery charge level.

      • No… all scooters drop speed as the battery goes down. The main difference is the gen 2 starts at a higher top speed so even when the battery is lower it can still do 30kmh+. The Gen 1 starts at a max of 31-33kmh or so and drops down to 27-28kmh as the battery goes down, and of course drops more as the battery depletes even more.

If you ride at stock 25kmh max speed you would hardly notice it, except until you get below 50% battery and your speed becomes 24kmh.

So much misinformation on this topics, but that's partly because half the articles are referring to USA speeds where 30kmh is standard and the gen1 motor couldn't hold that speed for more than 20-30% of the battery.

      • Gen 1 max speed is capable of 30km/h but its through software its capped at 25km/h so unless you do an easy hack to change the region to USA you won't notice the max speed start to go slightly slower until battery drops below 30%

      • From my own personal experience (1100km+ on a G30LP Gen2), I have found that there is very little speed degradation until it gets below 10% battery remaining. The G30LP does 30km/h ootb, and will do this all day happily almost till it dies (which I have done a couple of times). Claimed 40km range is obviously subject to rider and usage. I can do around 25km, a bit less if I am locked in cruise control at 30km/h the whole way. My wife could maybe get 40km (she is 56kgs, I am 67kg), but she always returns home when riding together with about 20% more battery left than I do and has never run flat.

Top scooter though and a great way to get around.

        • Little speed degradation because I assume you have it speed limited to 30kmh and so the degradation is hidden as per above,

If you got 30kmh out the box then as you said its a G30LP, the official model here is supposed to be the G30LE which is 25kmh. Serial number effectively designates the speed limit as per the link I posted elsewhere.

Poor marketing calling this a Gen2 when its actually the Max Lite, and you can in theory buy the regular Max with the Gen 2 motor if you really insist… though not officially in Australia yet I don't think.

    Some details of the versions:

  • So much more fun learning to ride an EUC. That sweet sweet range too.

The Gen 1 Max for $799 at JB HiFi is a MUCH better deal.

Even at the same price, the original Max is the better purchase.

    • Lite model potentially better for shorter people, the handlebars are quite a bit lower. Otherwise yes take the regular Max for sure.

      • Good point about the handlebars. I'm a fairly average 6ft and the handlebars on my max are comfortable. I guess shorter people might struggle.

  • Where does every one get spares for their scooters? I got a puncture on my Xiaomi pro and can only seem to find solid tyres for sale online, no tubes? Not sure if I want to go to solid tyres on it atm, I've had it for going on 9 months now and this is my first puncture.

    • Tyre slime, the type for innertubes not regular tyres, gets many a good review. Anyway Amazon sell, aliexpress, iScoot, Scooterhut, eBay… quite easy to find the tube, putting it on is a different matter :D

  • I saw it for $799 at Ninja.buy on ebay which is apparently (as I read from another ozbarginer) is byte pc, who I got told is an official authorised reseller of xiaomi.

However to make it $799 you need to select after pay at checkout and use code

Here is the link for it: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Segway-Ninebot-KickScooter-MAX-G…

    • Didn't that Afterpay deal expire at the weekend?

      • Probably, I don't know.
