  • 3rd party booking included 😉

    • Does that mean I can book on flights on Jetstar and get status credits?

      • +2

        No.

What flights are eligible for this offer?
Australian domestic Qantas operated flights with a ‘QF’ flight number in all cabins^.

        Then:

Any flight with a QF flight number on the ticket which is not operated by Qantas including Jetstar, Jetstar Asia, Jetstar Japan, Jetstar Pacific and other partner airlines are not eligible for this offer.

    • Thanks but that has always been the case with these deals unless something has changed in the last year or two.

    • Can someone explain what a 3rd party booking is?

      • Bookings not made directly at Qantas.com. So that would be bookings made at Flight Centre, Expedia, Amex Travel, etc.

Seems this is very deliberate timing: If you're considering a possibly discounted leg from the government subsidy which will be released in April, you'd have to decide whether to book now for double status, or wait for April for a 50% discount.

    • Yes, and to weigh the differences, what are you entitled to for the double status? ps. wish the 50% discount would include accommodations as well as flights is merely a small part of it.

    • I think it is to encourage staff that are empowered to make their own business travel plans to begin flying again now. Businesses are already being encouraged to start flights in April with 50% flights, staff may choose to begin now with this traveller-focussed benefit.

    • Why wouldn't you just wait til half price, then book x2 trips :P

      • It depends on what your current status is at. personally I would rather wait, but I hit gold status again end of feb. If you are on the cusp where the extra credits may bump you up a tier I could see someone opting for the status.

Looks like classic reward still earns nothing.

    • +5

Unless I'm missing something, but why would a reward seat earn status? Only company I know that gives you status/credit when using a loyalty credit is Oporto (which is great to be honest)

      • +1

Actually I think if you have qualified for Qantas "Points Club", you can earn status on Classic Rewards (QF only).

        • +2

This is correct, but its not clear if it will earn the double status points from what I've been able to find so far

          • @Jarred191: I think it will.

An Eligible Flight for the purpose of this promotion means any Qantas Australian domestic operated flight with a QF flight number on your ticket where Status Credits are normally earned.

            • +1

@capslock: I'll give it a go regardless, no real skin of my teeth cancelling the domestic bookings I already have and re-booking them to see if it does get the double status..

              • @Jarred191: Will be interesting to see. I don't think I could be bothered to cancel and rebook any of my reward flights, but I'll try some gift vouchers.

            • +1

@capslock: "normally earned" is the key caveat. You could argue it's ambiguous, but I can wager which way Qantas interprets it.

              • @UrMumsOnlyFan: Agree, I’ve read the T&Cs and am none the wiser. Given status credits aren’t “normally earned” on classic reward flights - you need to be in Points Club - it would be easy to argue they don’t count for this. Wish I knew though, as it would affect the bookings I made!

                • @ScottyAU: It seems pretty obvious how Qantas will interpret the T&Cs.

Classic reward bookings are flexible (i.e. no change or cancellation fee) until at least 30 April 2021. The date will probably roll forward again.

If you were game to test it, you could have cancelled your classic rewards and rebooked them while the DSC promo was on. (I think I've read that cancelled classic reward seats return to inventory immediately.)

I suspect that would have been a complete waste of time with no pay-off, plus the hassle of having to monitor if/when the points component and the cash component are refunded.

But who knows, just like with DSC gift vouchers (which may or may not still be a thing), there could possibly have been a win in there …

Does anyone know if you must still quarantine for domestic flights?

    • I don’t think so. Confirm with the state you are travelling to and the state you are returning to, and take note of any requirements regarding transit if that applies to you.

    • Avoid WA and you'll be fine.

      • Exactly. Leaving WA is not an issue. Coming back is. Our work hasn't allowed us to resume domestic travel. It isn't really drawing confidence to do business with the East. No family reason to take the risk of crossing the state border. And qantas is not going to extend my status credit anymore this year. :(

  • +1

Thanks OP! I think work travel is finally back on the books and will most likely have to book some flights in the next few days.

  • Thanks - think this is my only change to keep gold in 2022 when I might get more use from it.

  • (profanity) Qantas

  • love it - Double standards Credit!

Who has a good status points run yet? :P Norfolk Island perhaps?

    • +1

I booked a Norfolk island trip yesterday, but its not a good SC/$ rate. I'm earning 25 SC for a $500 flight CBR-SYD/BNE-NLK. You can get 50 SC for ~$750 though on similar routes for flex economy, but given the the main difference is being able to cancel for free I didn't think anouther $500 was worth it, escpecially as my Gold status will get extended now to July 2022.

    • Just booked Mel-Syd via Adel in Business class for 55.2k points and $154 in taxes earning a total of 128SC. Enough to hit my Fast Track requirements.

  • +2

Bonus Status Credits earned from this offer also count towards retaining or attaining your membership tier and the Qantas Status Fast Track earn requirement

This is a very beautiful thing. It means that if you enrolled in Fast Track, you can hit Gold in a single east coast return trip, one way in a red e-deal and the other way in Business.

    • Thank god for the free cancellation. Now to redo all my bookings again.

  • +1

So if we've already had our status extended during the last 2 instancees Qantas did this, does this mean we could potentially hold gold or platinum for 3 years?

    • This is what I want to know. I think a certain number of status credits carry over to the next year per their Covid policy?

  • I just booked a flight a couple days ago. TBH I can't be fussed cancelling and rebooking, I never get to Silver anyway with how little we generally travel with Qantas.

    • Did you apply for the fast track. It only required 100SC to get gold which you can easily do with one return biz class trip and one economy.

  • Awesome and I'm flying for work! Perfect timing!

  • Does this also apply to bookings made via QBR (Qantas Business Rewards)?

  • Can someone please explain to me the fast track qantas thing? Everything I've read says you need status at another airline, is this true? Can anyone confirm?

  • I received an email for those interested fast track claim time extended to end of June 2021!
Plenty of time to work out your 100 required

    • Could you please tell me what you need to do to make this happen? Edit: don’t worry just saw this was only up to Silver. Am currently Gold so no help

    • Booking biz class to Syd seems to be the most profitable. So return would give you 64SC.

  • Airline subsidies - more and more debt for us, our kids and grandkids to pay off

Not that long ago we have $0 debt, now it's almost one Trillion
