[NSW] Do All Traffic Lights Have a Red Light Camera?

Hi All - I jumped a red light accidentally. There was no flash but I wanted to know if all red lights have cameras?

No. But please don't go through red lights.

There are good reasons for them, even if they don't need to be as frequently used.

It prevents misjudgement accidents (for example where someone thinks they can make it through three lanes of traffic). And seeing how many clips dashcamsaustralia have, I'd say it's a good way to prevent extra accidents.

I often see them with the red right arrow just for the first (maybe 10) seconds, which stops people racing to cross before oncoming traffic. Then once the oncoming is more regular, people can find the gaps.

        • There are good reasons for them, even if they don't need to be as frequently used.
          It prevents misjudgement accidents …

Could be pedestrians crossing the side road too.

        • I hate these.
Recently there was a trial in WA of removing the persistent red arrow on a number of intersections and allowing drivers to turn if safe.

Unfortunately it turned out we are incompetent, and they stopped the trial early because there were so many extra accidents.

You have to wonder how much it was due to lights people are familiar with changing, but disappointing anyway.

          • @md333: I find it funny when people argue that certain road rules (like speed limits) should be eliminated because people should use thier common sense. It's been shown time and again that people don't use their common sense. Speeding in school zones, pulling off before the light turns green, going through red lights, are just some examples I see regularly.

I'd rather sit at a red light when I shouldn't have to for a while than be going straight at speed and have some jackass turn right on red when I'm about to hit the intersection.

People who can't drive safely should be removed from the roads altogether. The answer isn't dumbing down the road rules so that every idiot can get a licence.

Perhaps you're too afraid to drive on any road where oncoming traffic isn't separated? You might feel comfortable solely driving on segregated motorways?

          • @[Deactivated]: The trouble with that is that you can be the best driver in the world, but it's an idiot in another car that you can't control. I'm all for getting bad drivers off the road, but unless you test regularly, it's only accidents/police stops that will show the bad drivers.

And if there's one thing that Australian TV has shown me is that the bad drivers don't care whether they have a license or registered cars

They are most common to stop drivers running over pedestrians crossing the side road because it is often difficult to see them coming from both directions. Sorry if you are inconvenienced for a few moments.

No. There should be signs (I think) if they are at an intersection.

  • +1

    No there isn't.

If you're disappointed by that and feel like you deserve at least some sort of punishment, click here.

      • Licences come free in Corn Flakes boxes, you don't need to buy them.

    OP edited thier post
    It was:

Look for a yellow pole with maybe a black box at the top or with black colouring trims around the edges on one side of the box with no lights coming out around the intersection. That's a camera, speed or red light or even both. If that's too hard or too lazy to look out for them, use a redlight/speed camera detector. They should pinpoint any and all redlight and speed cameras just before you see them, maybe a few hundred meters ahead - will even detect mobile/portable and hidden cameras since cops are adamant trying to hide their cameras in bushes/shrubs or behind trees…

You know speed and red light cameras look different in every state, right? Then again, you don’t even know the nutritional needs of a baby, so I’m not surprised you’re not privy to this information, either …

      • You know speed and red light cameras look different in every state, right?

No I did not, I thought they were all the same in every state, just like the traffic lights. Green means go, yellow means slow down and red means stop unless the colours are different in whatever state you're in?

Then again, you don’t even know the nutritional needs of a baby, so I’m not surprised you’re not privy to this information, either …

Maybe because I don't have a baby yet….? Have you got a baby and know how to feed it??

        • Unlike you, I don't need to have a baby to know what to feed it.

          Go back to your bridge.

@kerfuffle: So then how do you know what works and what doesn't if you got nothing to test with?

            • +2

@Zachary: It's called reading. I suggest you try it.

              • -1

@kerfuffle: What if it's too complicated for me to comprehend? Are you going to peg me down because I don't know how to read too? Or what if the stuff I read is all incorrect and are all lies and then I go to do it and it goes downhill, mmmmh?

  • No. How much money do you think the State has

    • I think around $200 billion.

      • Can't be 200 billion if they're in negative and have debts to pay….
