This price is insane, is it an error?

    • +1

It is 208 its not 20.8 how can it be insane?

      • +1

because this is cheaper than Amazon has ever had it, even on Black Friday or special events by a considerable margin, and everywhere else it is above $350 at the moment.

        • +2

Amazon never have something cheap if there's no other places drop price,so they arent a good place to check price

          • @yuisakas: Not true, for their own products they often have the best deals on Black Friday. Logically speaking, why would a 3rd party seller be giving you a price which is lower than their cost price for the product - it isn't marked as a clearance either. Why don't you back up your points with some examples of where it has been cheaper…or if indeed, where ANY kindle has been 20 dollars?

I thought so too, but that is not the 4G version, just the normal.

      • How much value would you get out of the 4G version anyway? With this sale it seems like a reasonable price hike, but the regular price is so high considering most people are able to use their phone as a hotspot. I guess if you were going camping or road-tripping or something like that where you might not have enough power for your phone, it would be handy.

        • +1

Its real value would be unlocked when you set yourself up with an American account and use Audible

          • +2

@chaute: What do you mean by this? Is there an Audible deal for Kindle owners with American accounts or something?

          • +1

@chaute: Could you please explain more on this.?

            • +2

@NonSense: Audible Australia doesn't support kindle. To use audible on Kindle you need a USA audible account. Bit of a joke really.

          • @chaute: @chaute: Or just use your phone for audible

Amazing price, grabbed one, thanks OP! Cheapest ever for the 4G model.

  • Thank you, bought one, was waiting for 8 gb version to drop in price, but hard to resist when 32 GB+ 4G costs only $9 dearer :)

Color eink device is available and large screen pad is cheap nowadays. Kindle is outmoded.

    • Got a link? I didn't know colour e-ink screens existed.

    • But can you use them in the shower?

    • LinK???

    • Problem with those devices is the resolution is too low to be able to properly make use of the colour (and also expensive). It's an interesting concept though and in a few years if it's not too much more expensive it'll probably go mainstream. At this stage I think the paperwhite is the best ereader device you can buy.

It is a great price. Must be a new model around the corner. I'm hoping the good guys honour the price from the last deal or I'd snap this up.

Colour eink is cool and all, but I think it's a way from being affordable. I'd also say that a good tablet (ipad, duet) is superior when it comes to graphic novels due to the colour gamut and PPI. What I really like on tablets is the panel zoom that you can use to really see the art and read the words. I haven't seen how einks handle that yet.

    [never mind]

I'm still waiting on them to release a USB C model. I'm not ok with adding a new device that I'll need to carry micro USB for.

    • +1

yeah. I don't like this either but kind of resigned to it (got too great a mix of micro/c devices). nowadays I to carry around those small micro to usb-c adapters (or they have vice versa depending on your cable). Often there are ones with little loops on them so you can leave them on the cable themselves.

obviously not ideal and maybe won't work for you - just floating anyway!

      • yeah put a micro usb / usb c adapter in your wallet

a new version is likely to be released soon.

Funny. Good guys had it for a similar price a few days ago. Amazon haven't had it on sale yet…
Also if they are clearing them out, I might wait until they drop the price on the basic Paperwhite to 99 and get one then lol
