Lenoxx 2400W Electric Convection/Radiant 11-Fin Oil Column Heater $79 + Shipping (Free with Club Catch) @ Catch

10

With the temperatures starting to dip down some folks may be turning their attention to heating solutions for the upcoming cold season. A friend of mine pointed me to this oil-filled column heater that looks to be good value for a large 2400w model.

There is a link lower down on the page that shows a price of $89.95 with free shipping but I'm not a Catch member and have never bought from there, so I'm not sure exactly what the difference is between the advertised price.

It says that one is sold by KG Electronic

Also, if you buy directly from the KG Electronic website, it includes FREE Shipping if you don't have Club Catch. So it ends up working out the same price as this (with $10.95 shipping).

  • I've found this heater to be very good. It warms up the room quickly and evenly. Heats up quickly. It's very lightweight and has wheels so easy to move around. The outer panel doesn't get too hot so less chance of burning by touching it. Heats up on both sides. It is not an oil heater though. Micaathermic Heater

    • It is not an oil heater though

If it heats up quick and has all the advantages you say, it doesn't matter at all.

      I wish it had a built-in scheduler/timer!

      • Yes, it has fairly basic features but does the job efficiently.

30% smaller, 30% cheaper. Personally the only way I'd use one of these is to keep a room from getting too cold overnight, but as it is the thermostat clicking on and off disturbs my sleep

    • ^ And this one has a timer.

    • Is this a good price? I can't find any previous listings for the item (and I know very little about heaters tbh). Is this worth it?

They're pretty simple devices oil heaters. There's not much to them. While some people like to spend more and get a 'quality' item, in reality most people only use them for a short while and then toss them. Imo it's better to buy cheap on these, and then put the money you save towards a reverse cycle AC, which can be as much as 5 times cheaper.

Is it a good price? Yes if you need one now and it has to be posted.

If you can pickup, Kmart has cheap 5fin ones for $35 and the bigger 11fin for $55.

We have gas powered heating with zones but all people being in one room in night does a heater like this offset the gas cost.Thoughts

    • If you have Gas-powered heating with Zones then GAS is cheaper than Electricity I believe!!

    • I found that zones are pretty useless - the hot air is still piping through the tubes, even though not being used. Its still something the heater has to keep producing and the hot air is still loosing heat while not being dispensed. Also our heater is fairly old 10+ years(?) and by the gas meter I can hear the old rickety meter go super fast when the heater is on. As a comparison - if we use 2 units of gas a day for cooking and hot water, an hour of gas-heater consumed 7 units. So it was a no brainer for us.

We found a panel heater to be way more effective and cheaper than gas. Got the delonghi ones for $49 - can't find them now. Some people find panel heaters to give 'dry heat' (causing nose bleeds/dry skin etc). I run a diffuser along with it. An oil heater might be different.

Reverse cycle AC is much cheaper to run than plug in electrical heaters and has heating.
