  There are a bunch of these things in a similar price bracket to this one from Amazon. Just slight variations in terms of design but almost identical specs.

  I bought one a little while back but after a couple of months it's starting to have problems (disconnections, losing power). Amazon refunded, but it's very annoying, and a non-trivial percentage of the negative feedback on this particular device - as well as that of the other models - all mention the same thing, that the device fails after some time. I intend to eventually open mine up and see if I can't fix the connectors to see if the problem is poor construction and low-quality connections.

  Everything else about them is alright - if you can live with the heavy fisheye distortion.

  So yeah, caveat emptor.

    I got an almost identical one from a different brand recently. In addition to the the fisheye distortion that I can confirm, the mic on it seems pretty average as well. Now I can look forward to the likelihood of the device failing on me in the near future.

    Yeah I had a similiar one that started disconnecting, losing mic.
    Then I tried a Microsoft one, would lose focus alot.
    Going to go Logitech eventually, Amazon must hate me now

      I'm in the same boat but unfortunately the Logitechs with similar specs cost anywhere up to 10x as much as this :-(

      So back down to 720p I go (c270 for ~$50).

        There’s also creative lab web cams ($70), maybe one of them?

        I’m going to wait, will get next gen Apple computer and make sure whatever works with that.
