    LOL….

    I just use a saucepan…

  • I hate cheap electronics but I picked up a Sunbeam EC1300 on a whim out shopping one day and it's actually fantastic for both boiled and poached eggs. Would recommend for same price.

Eggspert hey? Well played Breville…well played!

  • Is there one that peel off the shell for me? I will buy it off straight. Lol.

The trick is to prick the bottom of the egg and place it down in the holder. This creates a tiny void around the egg as the steam cooks it and makes shell removal easy in one go. No fingernail picking away at it.

      • You could also put an egg into a cup and cover the opening with your hand and shack the egg inside a few times until the shell cracks and loosens

This only work on hard boiled eggs.. not soft boil..

      • do you do this half way through so that none of the liquid egg seeps out? Or does placing it in the holder stop it from seeping out?

        • +3

The hole is a tiny pin prick, there is actually a little pricker attached to the bottom of the water container for this on this model, its so small that none of the whites can seep out.

@Woffy: Yep, this is correct. The units come with a water container (to measure water based on number of eggs, how soft/hard you want them etc) and there's a tiny pin prick at the bottom. You do this at the start and it does not seep out when cooking.

        • I got something like this
          https://www.amazon.com.au/Form-Chick-Egg-Hole-Puncher/dp/B00…

works like a charm (albeit mine was from Japan in a 100 yen shop)

@Qmar: I got this exact same egg hole puncher from Daiso a year ago for a few dollars. Works very well for hard and soft soft eggs and makes peeling the shell very quick and easy, while keeping the egg fully intact. Highly recommended.

Make sure to punch the egg all the way down on its fatter end until it punches a tiny hole right through the shell. It works almost like the device that pricks your skin that diabetics use.

        • You have to do it on the bottom of the egg (the bigger side). There's an air gap there so none of the white seeps out.

  • What happened to the one in Kmart ?

    • Kmart one's ok, pretty basic though.

  • The Good Guys has a 12 hour sale starting at 6pm AEST so might be worth waiting for that if your local store has stock and you don't mind picking up.

Should bring the price down to $38.21

    • where did you find the information about the sale at 6?

      edit: found it.

  • I have had one of these for years and they really are eggcellent.

Thought this was a bbq :(

    • Totally thought the same thing. Looked weber-ey…

  • Does either range Breville or Sunbeam models switch off automatically?

I have a cheap one I bought on eBay for $30 that does this. Put the eggs on while I go shower in the morning and when I am done the eggs are ready and I don’t have to worry about any explosions

  • I have one of these, if you want soft boiled it's assured to overcook everytime. Works well for hardboiled.

    • Aaaahhh i wanted to buy it for soft boiled eggs

      • I gotta try it again, I've tried it about 6 times and it failed everytime, even when measuring the water with scales vs the amount which should be used in the manual.

It's a lot of trial and error to get them perfect and the measuring device and amounts in the manual aren't correct.

I've also only tried it using 700g eggs not 800g etc it's just not a very accurate device unfortunately!

You'll also notice that this 'apparently' uses more water for 1 egg than 7 eggs.
Haha the measurements on the measuring cup is backwards lol 5 years later and Breville still hasn't fixed it.

  • whats wrong with kmart egg cooker?
    https://www.kmart.com.au/product/egg-cooker/2143302

  • The aldi one is useless, leaks everywhere, far too many plastic components to clean, the tiers dont even sit flush. the size is advertised to allow steaming a cup of veg for 1 person - no chance, maybe a few peas.

The black one that is, the older white aldi one is pretty decent, looks similar to the sunbeam.

Regarding peeling cooked eggs, bash top, bash bottom, pick bashed pieces off and blow the egg out the fat bottom onto hand, if you scald your hand with a mess of half cooked egg covered in pieces off shell repeat and cook a bit longer.
