Big fan of their toilet brush, a little pricey at $30-$35 depending on the model but well worth it.

That Garlic press btw is amazing

    • +3

That's the one item I ordered, to replace the terrible Jamie Oliver one from Woolies.

      • +30

Jamie Oliver can't make egg fried rice

          Haiyaaa

        • coz he ain't Asian. :D

          • @SF3: he's just not very good. Gordon isn't asian but i'm sure any fried rice he makes would be good.

      • My god that one was bad! Way too much flex

    • I can also recommend the potato ricer, I bought it for my arthritic octogenarian father and he finds it easy to use.

    • I had one barely lasted 12 months. I replaced it with a 'rocker' style.

    • Is it annoying to have to screw in the thread compared to just putting cloves in and pressing? Looking to replace our trusty Zyliss one that is getting a bit worse for wear

      • There's a little red dot that helps indicate where it starts, but it's really easy anyway because the thread is huge

Wooden board and flexible knife is all you need. No wasted garlic. No scooping out bits from a plastic chamber. That's my experience. YMMV :)

      • +3

I just use my standard chef's knife for garlic. I'm not that keen on crushed garlic any more as the taste tends to be lost. With chopped garlic you can really taste it, particularly if you put four or more times the recommended amount. 🙂

      • +1

Why a flexible knife? Chefs I've watched use their ~30cm chef knife, but you obviously have a reason?

I have only very rudumentary knife 'skills' and see no point to a garlic press either.

Place garlic on board, lay knife flat over it and smash with palm (force dependant on desired constancy - chopped or mush). The skin pretty much falls off itself so pull it out. Then chop 5-7 seconds, wipe and rinse knife and board. It takes the same or less time than a press, plus most times you chop garlic you'll probably be cutting something else… so the washing part has to happen anyway, so why double the work by cleaning a press.

I thought the chopping board was a good bargain, then I clicked on the green version on it … feels like they are doing me a ebay (inflating the RRP before giving a discount)

  • The ricer does not have free shipping with Prime or $39 spend.

  • Thanks dude.. I love Joseph Joseph… the build quality is shonky but they look cool!

    • I've only bought a few Joseph Joseph products all seem to be of good quality, which items have you had troubles with?

      • Agree. Never had any issues with the ones i have.

      • It's all plastic. Food and plastic is eek in my book.

        • Actually Nylon.

  • I thought I bought the last garlic press but shows the delivery date 2 Jun. I guess someone beat me in a second. I just bought a Joseph Joseph chop board from Peter's of Kensington, my wife love it

    • Which chopping board did you get? I'm considering the nested one

      • Joseph Joseph Large Cut and Carve Plus Multi-Function Chopping Board
        this one for $20

      • Get a wooden board. Plastic pieces in your food is mighty tasty…

      • get a wooden chopping board

  • Joseph Joseph Large Cut and Carve Plus Multi-Function Chopping Board
    this one for $20

  • Been using their Garlic Press nearly everyday, great quality!

  • I’m after a new parmesan grater.

Had a Zyliss but dropped it and the handle broke.

It doesn’t have to be J&J.

    Willing to pay for quality.

Would prefer one where you crank the handle rather than a pyramid/box grater.

    Any parmesan aficionado’s out there?

      Get a microplane shredder.

      • +1

This. And accept no substitutes. Buy the proper Microplane brand

ffs.. missed the ricer twice now

    • me too :(

    • I missed out on this and the garlic press :(

    • +2

      Also available here

      • legend, cheers!

      • Awesome thanks, and i could use my $5 late delivery credit. Ironically the garlic press has postage charges

  • is this overseas stock? says it takes 3-4 weeks to arrive

Garlic press is $13 and free delivery on kogan.com.au for Kogan first members. Obviously Kogan first is a rip-off unless it's free and included in your credit card deal that lots of ozbargainers have taken up.

  • Tip. Always use a wooden chopping board!
Never seen a chef use a garlic press.

Never seen a chef use a garlic press.

Some of us aren't chefs, we just want our garlic pressed quickly at home. :)

      • So it's quicker to get the press out peel the garlic, press it then wash it up and put it away?

        • Either way you're peeling the garlic

You also get a different consistency in the garlic if you use a press, and get less of it on your fingers etc. Not everyone has amazing knife skills.

        • +2

So it's quicker to get the press out peel the garlic, press it then wash it up and put it away?

Yes. I have a dishwasher, and I use more than one clove at a time.

      • See my post above. I'm as far from a chef as you'd get but a press takes more time than a board and knife. It's just that most people haven't seen how.

    • Never seen a chef use a garlic press.

It's a convenience tool. Can you achieve the same results with some decent knife skills? Sure. Does it take longer? yes.

Not sure why you're trying to gatekeep cooking like this though.

Tip. Always use a wooden chopping board!

Always? I stay away from wooden chopping boards for raw meat. They are a pain to clean properly and need care like re-oiling after a while. Again, for the average home cook it's just not convenient.

      • +2

The general consensus between chefs, knife experts and food hygienists is that wood are the best. Avoid glass, marble, bamboo and steel as these are just too hard. End grain wood boards are the most suitable for preserving the longevity of your expensive kitchen knife.

        • Cool. That doesn't change the fact that it is harder to keep clean. A lot of people just want to throw their chopping board in the dishwasher and forget about it.

Not sure why you can't understand that not everyone is interested in cooking and may have families to cater for, so anything that helps with convenience is a big plus.

          • @coffeeinmyveins: I have a family and a wooden chopping board and have never even had that thought that it's a hassle to clean plus it looks much better. Each to there own if you want more plastic in you life than go for it!

      • Um, sorry no. I'm far from a chef and a garlic press is an INconvenience tool. i.e. It over-complicates what should be a simple process. We only THINK it is complicated until we see it done. Garlic on board, turn knife flat, smash with hand, discard skins, chop a few seconds, done. Wipe knife, rinse board (it's only a plant not meat). In most cases you're probably cutting other things too so you're actually saving time/effort by washing only the knife and board instead of a press as well.

Edit: And washing a wooden board is literally a wipe with a dish cloth. It's harder to wash out a bowl than a flat board.

This is the closest to what I'm referring to. No real knife skills needed, just fan the handle back and forth a few times: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Yt6pKLU_10

Joseph Joseph stuff is literally just generic Alibaba merchandise. If you search AliExpress you can usually find the same for a third or less without the Joseph Joseph branding.

Hm… Maybe, but I strongly suspect that's not accurate. I bought a JJ rolling pin with different depth washers that screw onto each end to lift the rolling pin higher/lower to produce varying but uniform-thickness pastry. I seriously doubt you'd find the quality of that item on AE. So some of their all-plastic stuff, maybe. But AE is the worst junk you find in $2 shops. Pouring jugs with handles that can't hold the weight of a 1/2 jug of liquid, etc. e.g. I bought a few stainless steel wire spiders from AE and all their handles broke off in about 5-7 uses. They LOOKED like stainless steel, but inside the handles was plastic, only it wasn't even solid plastic… it was like a honeycombed grid to make certain they used the least amount of plastic saving them money, and guaranteed they would quickly break.
