simply screw the socket adapt into B22 type socket, then screw in E27/E26 bulbs.

Best not to! You are supposed to use these as adaptors for your bulbs, not to modify the socket. Safer that way.
If you push the bare adaptor into a socket, the large ring may be live rather than neutral. Especially if you have a 2-switch setup.

thats just copied from the item description if anyone is wondering

      • of course. Just getting in before the "it will burn down your house and void the insurance" FUDers.

I would prefer a deal on the opposite, E27 to B22 so you can use “normal” bulbs on many fittings.

    • +3

E27 is the new normal. I've just about eliminated B22 from my home.

Second this. They’re much more stable, and you can import them cheaper than the bayonet.

  • I heard this kind of adapter is not allowed in VIC, but other states are OK. As you can see only VIC IKEA doesn’t have same adapter.

    • would you mind sharing from where you heard / from where they heard from

this kind of adapter is not allowed in VIC, but other states are OK

Interested to know how is the use of these not allowed
Have personally used in Adelaide, and Melbourne

    • not allowed in VIC

There must be another reason for them not being in ikea. I can't see anything on the web re. a Victorian only ban.

Why just not to buy proper globes?

    • if you can get a better deal like e.g. marketplace/ gumtree/ ebay deal @ e27 bulbs then why spend extra 30$ or more for the b22 variant?

    • +2

Most people will use these with certain brands of smart bulb that are only available in ES. Beyond that, ES remains the dominant standard in the rest of the world, so some speciality globes are only manufactured in ES.

      • Really? I got bother types of globes from Costco. Moreover all my globes been replaced for free through state globes replacement program like for like without any dodgy adapters.

        • +1

My smart globes are Xiaomi, they all require adapters.

Looking at feedback section of amazon : "Just a quick note to let everybody know that the BC to E27 Adapters from DiCUNO are certified to CE standard. "
Another point is that if they are illegal in Australia why Amazon Australia sell them ?
Ok, they sell them because they want to make a profit as any other store, then why they have not be told not to sell them by Australian authorities ?

Bugger, while I was readying comments I've got this : "100% Claimed".
I need to adopt to ozbargain attitude : "Buy first, then think."

Ikea used to sell these. Due to the fire risk they have been removed. Not recommended unless you are using it in a lamp.

    • Any chance to see when they caused the fire when used properly ?

      • I bought these recently as I bought E27 bulbs on sale @bunnings (4w brilliant smart bulbs)

I have tried for couple of hours and these become really hot. Not sure if it is common or they pose any real danger?

        • Did you check with a normal batten holder ?
Depending on the wattage of the bulb it may get really hot as well.

    • Fire? No. The issue is electric shock. It is easier to get a shock when doing something dumb with these, in theory.

      • -1

You can kill yourself with a kitchen knife if you do something dumb with it.
Sorry, I do not want to be sarcastic but part of one of my previous jobs was to check what certified electrical engineers were proposing to our company - at least one third of those papers were rejected straight away cause they were either not compliant with current wiring rules or gonna cause problems to us.
When electricians pretend they have some kind of sacred knowledge it make me laugh.
I knew one guy from UK, he was an electrician at nuclear power plant - his opinion was the same - he actually got back to the Old Country cause he was not happy with the way it was done here.
Anyway - my point is that anyone who has a brain and hands can do 90% of what certified electricians do without causing any issues at all..

        • Yes, I'd just qualify that with "in the home". Many electricians have more specialised skills in industry.
I was going to mention high-voltage distribution - but the linesmen who work on those are not electricians.

you can easily get these from aliexpress, much cheaper than amazon

    • +1

There's a big difference between getting item from CHINA (taking ages (around 60-90 days) to come, with unsurity of it even arriving) VS AMAZON AU (sold and shipped from within Australia, hence getting within 14 days or something).

Plus when i order one of these before and talked to amazon that time about delivery not coming on time, they refunded me like $5 on the $11.99 order i placed for a 10 pack of these. (Just for last delivery, and it eventually came within 2 days after the last estimated delivery date).

Also not forget the return that can be done so easily on amazon than aliexpress.

  • I have a feeling, purely guessing, that these were illegal a long time ago because the government wanted to force people to switch to the energy efficient bulbs which had B22.
But things have changed over the last few years where majority of LED bulbs were made with E2* sockets and the rules haven't changed to meet the situation.

  • I have bought these. It was the best value I could find that shipped from AU and had reviews.

  • These are potentially unsafe (50/50 chance)

B22 has built in safety protecting the live pin (it’s only live when depressed by bulb).

ES/e27 also keeps the live pin recessed at the back (and usually only live when depressed too).

If you happen to plug this in reversed (and b22 is reversible) then you can make the screw part of the adapter live (not the recessed pin that’s supposed to be live). Pretty dangerous and the reason they have been dropped from sale.
