How to get the commercial membership?

  • So why would you get.this.over a oil heater?

    • Oil heaters are slower.

yep, but the oil ones are more efficient.

I paid $50 for a 5 fin 1200w one years ago, got a timer, it went on an hour before bed clocked off midnight (kids had doonas). it used to click off when it reached its temp.

so much cheaper then running an electric heater all night. This was in 3x3m bedrooms in Kilmore (vic).so it got cold.

        .

        • No electric heater is more or less efficient than another electric heater (besides heat pumps). They all convert 1w of electricity into 1w of heat.

@timmyd: so you disagree with the second law of thermodynamics? come back when you finish high school physics

The oil heaters consume less electricity over a given time period, thus making them more energy efficient…i.e cheaper to run. see this choice article.

@M00Cow: Did you read that article?

"Your electric heater is basically 100% efficient, in that pretty much all of the electricity is being converted to heat (some is also used by built-in fans and electronic controls). But that doesn't mean one 2000W heater will output exactly as much heat as another; for example, one may have a poor-quality thermostat which stops the heater from running at full power when it ought to. "Efficient" is not always the same as "effective"."

The percieved level of comfort might change depending on what type of heater you have, but they're all putting out the same amount of heat. By definition (and as stated in the Choice article you shared) none of them are "more efficient" as you claimed

  • Cheers. Ordered the manual version but haven't picked up yet. For $70 more this one is no brained
Ill get the other one refunded.

    • If you have one at home already from a week ago - what to do? Can you buy new and refund ?

      • Have you used it yet

  • Nearly $200 seems a lot for a dumb resistive heater, plus some large power bills.

You can get a portable reverse cycle for under $400 del.

More heat, less than half the power bills, half the carbon emissions, and it cools in summer.

I know, portable aircon is rubbish compare to a split system, but still far better than panel heaters and evap coolers.
