Free Windscribe VPN - 20GB Usage Per Month for 1 Year @ Shareware On Sale

1070

Been a while since we’ve had a free VPN deal from Windscribe.

You will need to go through Sharewareonsale though to get a promo code. Just use a temp email from https://temp-mail.org/ to get the promo code. I signed up for a new account and received the 20GB allowance after confirming my email address.

Not sure if it’ll work on existing accounts but based on past deals, there is the risk that any allowance >20GB will be downgraded.

This is an unlimited-device 1-year 20GB-per-month license, for commercial or noncommercial use

Do some research and tell us please.

    • This way officer..

      their*

  • Yeah, I tried these guys last freebie (a year or so ago). I won't be returning as pretty crap speedwise and very inconsistant connection. Not worth the hassle (in my opinion only).

    • +8

I've never really had an issue with their speeds. Here's a speedtest while connected to one of their servers
      https://www.speedtest.net/result/11387652866

      Max speed and ISP:
115/5 (Telstra Cable) - normally between 100-110Mbps throughout the day

      • Premium?

        If not, that's amazing.

But I think people will be disappointed if past performance of the free plan is what we're reviewing. In my experience on random days over many years, I rarely get more than 1 MBit/s from any free international server.

      • Similar experience for me (although my downstream bitrates are lower because of my plan and I do have premium - I bought a lifetime plan 2-3 years ago):
        Speedtest without VPN: 54Mbps/16Mbps
Speedtest with Windscribe (Premium) to US server (Denver) 52.1Mbps/13.4Mbps.

    • The free servers do get bogged down depending on region and time.
The premium servers are pretty good, and have a low price entry.

Works with existing accounts. Not my preferred VPN but a backup if needed. Thanks OP.

    • So it added on an extra 20GB?

      • +4

Doesn't stack, it warns you it will decrease limit.

      • I only had the free account without any upgrades.

  • Asking credit card detail

    • Give it to them

      • +2

Can I use yours please, Chchnu?

    • +2

If you have an account with Wise, create yourself one of these.

      • Revolut has similar but they are not anonymous.
You still also need to be careful companies like apple precharge for subscriptions, so even if you cancel the card they can still charge you.

FYI: Been very happy with Windscribe personally…

I use it 24/7 on the Australian servers and speeds are fantastic 98/38mbps on my 100/40 connection…

I don't really use overseas servers much but have a few times and they have done a good job…

I'm not sure about this limited plan and if they limit speeds or number of servers you can connect to but if same as my unlimited plan with Windscribe I would recommend them :-)

    • This limited plan is bandwidth, and restricted to free-tier servers. Always been like that.

    • +1

What is the point to use aus server with a vpn? I thought vpn is to pretend you are in another country to get exclusive content / cheap subs.

      • +13

Many people use VPN services for data privacy reasons. When you browse online, you are tracked from website to website. One of the ways this is done is through your IP address. Using a VPN lets your activity blend in with others who are using the same IP address. For this purpose, you'd want a local server for the best latency.

        • Thanks

    • damn where am I going wrong? I'm on a custom plan paying for just Australian servers and a Windflix server, and connecting to best location cuts my speed from 100mbps download to 24

      • No idea.. I'm connected to one of the Sydney VPN's at the moment although my system is running a backup to the cloud limited to 1MB/s so my upload speeds are not at good as they should be in this speed test but you can see the downloads speeds are great!
        - I'm guessing there must be some kind of compression or something going on as it's just above 100mbps I'm getting at the moment…

        https://www.speedtest.net/result/11388136969.png
        * keep in mind backup to the cloud is in progress (also wifi connected system) and uploading at 1MB/s whilst doing this speed test… I can't complain about these numbers….

Using windscribe pro, really good for streaming, and the speed's pretty good

    It's free for a reason.

    • And that reason is..

      • Because someone said so

    • +2

it's free cause they care about privacy and want everyone to protect theirs by offering everyone (including non-paid users) free data every month. same goes for protonvpn which is made by the same people who make protonmail

of course if you want faster speeds and more servers available then the free plan you will have to upgrade

  • +1

Been using them for about year now and love it. i pay $2 a month for australia server and works great. Have used about 700gb this month

    • How do you get unlimited data without going pro? When I go to build a plan, it only adds 10gb per server.

Nevermind, I'm dumb and just saw the unlimited data option.

      • Yeah the unlimited data is good. first vpn i've seen that lets you pay monthly instead of all at once

  • Been using their free offer for about a year. They good, no complaints. Though I only occasionally do activate their vpn so there is that.

  • i use the free to browse *** sometimes

  • -2

Oh… looks like Windscribe has reduced the free data from 50GB to 20GB… oh no, is this even a deal?

  • -3

Well their not trying to win any customers… software connected me to Jakarta servers.. speed is nonexistent! https://www.speedtest.net/result/11387913193

    • +5

You know you can select other servers manually right?

Though the last time I let it autoconnect it picked hongkong server. Not saying it's a good or bad thing. Just saying that's what it connected me automatically.

  • It works on my existing “free” account by just claiming the generated voucher upon registration.

Bought "lifetime" subscription with them. Which ended in 2 years. Very honest company.

When I was in China, they did not work at all, while other provider worked perfectly.

    Definitely can't recommend.

    • I'd suggest contacting their support. There are definitely people in China who do use it.You just might need to fiddle with it.

    • I bought a lifetime subscription too, still works perfectly. I'd definitely contact their support, or through their subreddit. Can't speak to the China issue, but they've been great for me.

    • +1

I have a lifetime subscription, still works, and expires late 2028 (and confirmed by support that it will be extended/renewed once that ends).

Was in China last year and it worked ok, IKEv2 was giving decent speeds on 4G and most networks, and on some networks had to fall back to the much slower Stealth protocol.

Definitely a great buy for me.

I managed to get a max of 15Mbps in my NBN100. Mehhh.. Uninstalled!

    • should have tried wireguard or ikev2 protocol

      • I tried ikev2. By the way PIA reaches 90mbps

        • +1

          Should try wireguard protocol though

Even though it’s pretty new, it should give you the fastest speeds

    • You're using the free servers, what do you expect?

      • A better trial service to attract me

        • +1

15mbps is pretty sufficient as a trial, especially for adsl and nbn20 users for watching YouTube and whatnot.

Iirc they have a 3 day refund policy if the paid servers don't have enough bandwidth for your connection.

  • free version servers are too slow and very limited.
    no free australian servers.
the people above seem to have good paid service though

    • +1

Yes but $2 a month for aus server with wireguard protocol is well worth it. Comes with Adblock as well

  • +1

got a sick 10 year deal a few years ago. been pretty solid since.

  • +1

I have an existing account so this doesn't work with it. They make it hard to sign up for a new one as well but you can do it thru incognito browser tab.

    • Me too - Q6V89ZDG

  • I have a free 50gb monthly data one from 2018 but you can’t choose server though. So annoying

    • +3

I too have the 2018 deal and with the latest version of the app you can choose which server to connect to.

  • I have been a paid user of Windscribe for the last three years. Their primary Sydney server (GSL Networks) is very good both speed and Captcha wise.
I am comfortable with the service being located in Canada. I would be more worried with Guybrush Threepwood having access to my data to be honest which many other Caribbean Island VPN's have.

  • Isn't the 20G per month a free offering from Windscribe anyway? Where's the deal?

    • 10GB is the standard free limit, but there are various ways to increase it.

  • Thanks OP.

Worth playing around with it, using Surfshark atm.

Does anyone know if you can you use the privacy settings in the Firefox extension (Ad Crusher, Tracker Eradicator, Malware Evader, Soc Dis, Cookie go away, DND cookie monster) without using their VPN (via extension or client)?, as I'm using Surfshark atm for VPN.

I currently using Cookie Auto delete, Ublock Origin, Disconnect & Decentraleyes.

    Thanks in advance.
