If you somehow missed one of the previous excellent Corsair power supply deals this looks like a very good offer.

There's a model refresh of the Corsair RMx coming and a load of deals lately. So these are end of life and there maybe more deals in the near future.

Please note that this has the Japanese capacitors and does not support the modern standby feature in windows 10.

The model refresh was already announced, and has modern standby support and maglev fans.

    Good writeup though!

    • That'll be right, I was just looking at this exact model because I reckon my old PSU is on the way out. Can't see stock of the new model anywhere

New model is louder though because they changed the fan curve. Saw it being discussed on another forum, overall the 2021 version is being seen as a downgrade.

        • Weird, I thought Mag Lev fans were quiet. It wouldn't be a massive concern for me anyway as it's in a "silenced" case, under a desk, across from a server, a nas, and two micro desktops.

I grabbed one of these older ones anyway to replace a 10+ year old Corsair HX650

  • Should I get this or the 2019 rm850 ($159)?

    • I don't think you can go wrong either way. People don't like the non-x since they don't have japanese capacitors but it's still a reputable brand.

Depends on your power draw as well. At lower power draws the fans won't kick in so it will be quieter but the 850 would be higher comparatively. I understand the new models have different fan curves so might be worth checking this too. And you need to consider future upgrades.

      • I have a 3080 and 5 3600. Does that change your decison?

        • Both would work but I think 850 is recommended. There was a recent rm850x deal for $139 so might be worth waiting if you can. Skycomp and pcbyte have it for $169 currently.

Do you have a psu now?

          • @Caped Baldy: Sorry for the late reply. To make this easier to explain I purchased a Techfast 3080 5 3600 for 2.3k on February. The link can be found here https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/600812/. I sold the case, ram, aio and psu using Facebook and Gumtree. I bought 4x8 Corsair vengeance rgb pro ram, Lian li o11 dynamic rog xl white, Silverstone pf360 white and now I'm looking an adequate psu. I wasn't going to sell the gigabyte psu but after seeing reviews and reports of it catching on fire and blowing up I wasn't going to take the risk, it's better to be safe then sorry. I'm okay with waiting for another psu deal, but are you sure there's going to another psu deal like the rm850x one for $139?

            • @David1484: Not to be rude, but how long is a piece of string? I can't say with any certainty.

Better off building the system and mining some crypto. I'm up over $1k since Feb.

I'd just shell out a bit more for the rm850x. I paid a similar amount for a rm750x.

@Caped Baldy: I ended up getting the HX850 from centrecom. 189 delivered, seems like a good price considering competitor prices.

Just an update on the latest pricing for this PSU: it is currently $129 on eBay.

I think there was also a $10 off voucher (PPSS1) - I can't confirm, as I signed up for eBay Plus to get the $50 off voucher instead (only one voucher allowed)…
