  • Great price, ashame can't get a graphics card to pair with it too easily eh :(

    • Hey OzBaggins, if you do get the card - can you give us some pics and let us know what GPUz says?

I tried messaging you but looks like I can't - can you message me?

      • +1

Sorry, someone was troll PM me from multiple accounts turned off PM momentarily. No problem, will message you tomorrow.

  • Tempted to upgrade from b450 aorus pro wifi. Currently have 5900x. Would there be any major upgrades from my board to this?

    • +3

Do you have SSD or GPU with PCIe Gen 4? If not, it is not worth upgrading and even if you had, it is still questionable. Spend money on something else…

      • Thanks. My main upgrade reason would be VRM. Seems though even with B450 hitting cinebench 616 single score and 21600ish for multi core. 4.6-4.7ghz multicore and 5.1ghz single. I have 3000mhz ram though probably fund money into that. Cheers!

      • Much better VRM setup
      • PCIe 4.0 support
      • Type-C header
      • Lots more USB ports
      • No built-in Wifi

Is it worth an upgrade though? I would say no.

      • Cheers. Thought so but wanted second opinion.

        • 6 layer PCB for really good memory oc capability.
same on the CPU OC department,
          PCIe Gen 4 for GPU/M.2
          Decent ethernet
          ARGB

      • Forgot 2.5G ethernet. Won't affect most but to some that's worth the upgrade.

  • +2

Have they fixed the USB issues associated with XMP with this board?

  • +1

B550 or X570, which is better?

    • if you don't care about 2nd m.2 being PCIe 3.0, then B550 all the way

  • +7

I have a 5950x with 3080 running on a b450 msi gaming carbon ac. I Upgraded the motherboard to 570x board. Noticed no difference at all except my wallet is now lighter

    • I wanted a 5950X with my high-end X370 but AMD said no. I can't bring myself to waste the environment and my wallet to "upgrade" my motherboard to a B450 or anything higher.

    • +2

everyone always talk about vrm which is irrelevant to the majority of the population

only thing important about a motherboard is whether it has the expansion and io you require

    • -1

I’m also running it all with a 650w Corsair psu and never had an issue.

      5950x and 3080 on a b450 board with 650w psu.

I seriously think they just want you to upgrade so they make money

    • That makes sense because the b450 gaming carbon has some of the best VRMs in its class

  • My old build is crashing repeatedly, seemingly due to cooling issues. Specs are:

    • CPU: Intel i5 6400 Skylake 2.7Ghz 6MB LGA 1151 4 Core
    • RAM: Corsair 16GB DDR4 2400
    • Motherboard: Gigabyte B150M-D3H DDR4
    • Graphics: Sapphire RX 460 2GB
    • OS Drive: Samsung Evo 850 ssd 500gb (I also have a 1TB 970 Evo Plus M.2 ready to go but havent installed yet)
    • PSU: Thermaltake ToughPower Digital DPS G 750W 80PLUS Gold Fully Modular Power Supply

I imagine I can salvage the RAM and PSU fine or are they too many gen behind?

I suspect my current fault is in the Graphics card, or the CPU. But most probably the graphics card.

It's clearly been a while since I've looked into current gen PC tech. Don't need anything fancy just sometihng that wont fail on current gen of FIFA really, and can hold about 2000 chrome tabs in memory.

Thinking of getting this mobo. I think a need a new case for better cooling so I'm also looking at todays deal for the (Lian Li Lancool II Mesh Performance)[https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/623557]. Combine with my 1TB M.2 9070 Evo Plus, the DDR RAM and PSU I have.

Any suggestions for GPU to go with? Nothing fancy

Are you sure its cooling? Your spec don't look that power hungry. If it is cooling then you may just need to clean your fans/dust filters.

Unfortunately even a RTX 2060 will cost you $700 in this market. I've bought my 2060 2 years ago for $480

I see - I thought I must have been going crazy seems so difficult to get a GPU.

Pretty sure it's cooling because I havent had (as many) crashed since I removed side of case :) Although I think maybe GPU might have fault. My mobo has built in graphics maybe I'll switch to them for a while and see if it helps

Given the age of your system, you may need to re-apply your thermal paste. CPU is fairly easy to do, and cheap. A tube of MX-5 paste will easily cover this (only need a small pea size amount). That's not a bad thing to try anyway. It could also be the the problem on the gpu if it's of a similar age. Same paste can be used on the gpu, but the process to take a graphics card apart can be a bit more tricky.

      • +1

        You may well be right!

        • I might just grab a case with airflow and some thermal paste. Perhaps another fan or two also

          • @isthisreallife22: Honestly, just try the paste first. Clearly your system was adequate for the last few years, so just give it all a good clean out of dust, make sure all the fans still work, and re-do the paste on cpu (and gpu if you feel comfortable with the process).

            • +1

              @Rail Rider95: ok will do :)

              • +1

@isthisreallife22: Try to download some hardware monitoring tools such as hwinfo to monitor temps.

You might also want to try unplugging things in and out. I've fixed crashes due to unset ram sticks and power cables.

        • +1

A lot of pastes will start to dry out after 3+ years. If they crack, the processor can then start to overheat, because the paste is no longer transferring the heat to the cooler.
You don't need any fancy paste, especially for relatively low end processors that aren't being overclocked. Even at the top end of regular overclocking, it's only worth 3-5 degrees under load.

    • +1

I'd personally put some effort into diagnosing the issue before transferring potentially bad parts into a new computer.

Looking at the requirements for FIFA, your current system is probably good matching the recommend requirements.

If I had your system and a requirement of playing FIFA, I'd wait for graphics cards to drop in price and hold out for next gen CPUs now.

    • +1

Check event log in your system first.

      • Have tried quite a bit of diagnosis and havent zero'ed in on it - will do thanks

  • -1

all these b series motherboard have such bad expansion

  • +4

At this point if you need a mobo you should probably grab a GFX card package deal.

    • Why's that?

      • No reliable way to buy a GPU at "MSRP" outside of the concessional bundle.

        • Oh sorry misunderstood what you said. I've yet to see a bundle that includes an RTX GPU that doesn't price the 3070 at $2k or something. Do you have any suggestions on where to look?

          • @Pornboy69er: I'd honestly just go for the 6700XT for $1.1k at PCCG or a 3070 prebuilt at this moment, otherwise some have had luck with Discord servers. Maybe stay up for the 3070ti launch and pray.

            • @materix01: I can order an RTX 3060 for $760 and it'll come in about 1 month or so. Would you say at that price point the 3060 is better than 6700XT?

EDIT: sorry just did a quick Google and the 6700XT kicks the 3060's butt. But I guess I'd be paying a fair bit more than the 3060's price point. Do you known what the MSRP of the 3060 and 6700xt are meant to be?

              • @Pornboy69er: Depends on your use case. If you take advantage of DLSS or stream, go for it. It's got better cost per frame than the 6700XT at those prices as well. It's just disappointing that it's only 6% faster than a 5700XT (which is also hard to find due to how well it mines) and 25% slower than a 6700XT.

I don't recall the 3060 MSRP but I paid $900 for my 3070 in Dec and $720 for a reference 6700XT as a PCCG bundle last month.
