Which Screwdriver Do I Need for Honda Civic Housing?

What kind of screwdriver do I need to unlock the blade from the broken old housing and lock the blade into this new housing?

Assume Phillip? Do you know which size?

Sorry for the noob question, boys; appreciate the assistance!

Show us the old key fob screw?

this is the old key fob; it is like to like (i believe)

Just a standard phillips screw. Any screwdriver will work. Even a small flathead or nail clippers if need be.

  • I'd say a right angle one to get into the head of that screw that nobody can see.

    YMMV

  • Yeah, need to see head of screw.

  • Google "phillips screw driver size chart" and read the results.

This thread really is a whole new level of <insert word here>

can you help or you just here to trash?

      • THAT"S A PHIILIPS HEAD
        MAYBE SIZE 1 OR 0 OR 00
IF YOU TOOK A PHOTO OF THE HEAD NEXT TO A TAPE MEASURE (TAPE PULLED OUT A BIT) OR A RULER…..

Edit- or you could try one size and work your way up or down from there……

        • thanks; kindly appreciated

          • @jamessong: or you could just Google "phillips screw driver size chart" and read the results.

        • IF YOU TOOK A PHOTO OF THE HEAD NEXT TO A TAPE MEASURE

I thought a banana was the official unit of measurement and indication of scale.

          • @pjetson: Only once straightened with no skin cracking or bumps.

    JIS size 0.

    • I think "Phillips" has just become the catch all for any cross type headed fastener… (so dont confuse them and mention Frearson or Pozi either.)

But yes, came here to say this is most likely JIS.

      • Yes, it seems not many know about the superior JIS, and use the inferior Phillips driver on them and damage them.

  • Take a trip to your local Bunnings and try out a few different sizes, maybe even buy one if need be

What kind of screwdriver do I need

Stop the earth…. I want to get off.

It is probably worth buying a cheap set of jewellers screwdrivers from somewhere like bunnings for these things. That looks to be a 00 size. I like these https://www.bunnings.com.au/stanley-6-piece-precision-screwd… but yoiu can get some very cheap ones as well.

    • +1

Very cheap ones are no good. The blade is either made of cheese or the plastic handle isn’t connected to it properly and it just spins.

      • I have been using the same one, Its quite good. what issues did you face?

  • +5

Just make sure it's a right handed one.

    • Do you think OP should ask a staff member at Bunnings for a right handed driver or will they be able to tell by just looking at them?

      • +2

I would hope Bunnings would refund if it turned out to be a left handed one.
Last time i used a left handed screw driver the screw ended up driving me

    • +4

You need a left handed one to undo the screw; a right handed one is for tightening the screw. Righty tighty, lefty loosey!

  • Jewellers screwdriver set.

  • PH0 or PH00, PH=Phillips Head.

A sonic screwdriver should work, and it's handy for lots of other things.

    • +1

      Dr Who can fix it

  • +2

    Obviously one that FITs

    Oh my god.

    Common sense

  • I would just use superglue to fix the old key housing

  • Pillips head screw driver. You can buy small kits for $5.
Then simply select which one fits snugly.

    • Where can I get a kit for $5? Any pointer?

      • eBay.com.au
        Amazon.com.au
        Jaycar.com.au

  • Have you checked with your Honda dealer? I’m sure they’ll have have a Honda approved part. Don’t forget to have your VIN handy when you contact them.
