Oh man…. as a kid I had the AFX Thunderloop Thriller and absolutely loved it - it looks like this is 2021's version. $60 is a great price - $130 at most other retailers I saw at a glance.

    • +1 vote

AFX was the uncouth version. Scalextric was always the choice of the discerning gentleman(child). It seems that Scalextric has certainly dropped from the classic racetrack layout to cheap children's toys with loop the loops.

  •

great $32 shipping to Metro Melb

    •

      Yeah it's forcing Express Shipping

    • +1 vote

has free shipping as a pop up you add to cart …. great value for $59 delivered as a present.
Good as a starter set to see if kids will continue or loose interest .

  • +1 vote

Forcing $32.32 shipping is not a good deal

    •

The boxes for these things are huge - I wouldn't be surprised if that was near cost.

    •

Strange on the site it says that shipping is $9.50 Australia wide, not sure why it's changing to a higher price. Also appears to be sold out too.

      •

"For all orders over AU $99.00 the delivery fee is AU $9.50 in Australia."

        •

          Deceiving, it says

          Free Delivery

Orders over $99 receive free delivery or
          $9.50 Australia wide

          •

@eggaz: on product page it says

Free Shipping on Orders Over $99 or $9.50 Nationwide* | Store Updates | *T&Cs Apply. Excludes Large Orders & Bulky Items.

BUT thats page for the set you want, not ozbargain landing page.

          •

@eggaz: I tried to get the free shipping option but even with >$100 in the cart it wasn't an option.

    •

thats the express option, there is also a standard option for "Shipping$19.99"

      • +1 vote

the standard option was only put in recently. It wasn't there when the deal was posted so obviously the OP has seen the negative feedback and then later added standard shipping option. Pretty poor of the Op to not mention anything about this on this page. Especially considering that it's an OzBargain only deal.

        •

Hardly an OZB only deal if it's plastered all over the front page of their website.

          •

            @gadget: URL = blog.hobbyco.com.au/ozbargain-slot-car-offer-2/

Headline of the link = “AS SEEN ON OZBARGAIN

            •

@PleasureMe: I get that. I was only responding to your post saying it's an "Ozbargain only deal" implying you get this if you are in the OZB know. I can only assume the free shipping option didn't exist when the deal came up so I guess they must be heavily overstocked.

    •

      Pathetic. The box is huge.

  • +2 votes

Yeah, shipping is the deal breaker for me too…

  • +2 votes

Shipping turns it from a fantastic price into at most an alright deal

  • +1 vote

For me, it came up with a standard shipping option for $20 to Brisbane, however within few seconds of adding to card, there was a free shipping offer.

I had a pop up which when I clicked on it gave me free delivery:

    https://ibb.co/gJ5SVYJ

    • +2 votes

Gives you free shipping until you login.. Then removes..

      • +3 votes

happened to me too, then it worked, and i managed to get free shipping.

        • +2 votes

Went back and you are right! Close the window or session and it adds the voucher :)

  •

Shipping comes down to $15.40 for me, so I guess I'm luckier. Since I don't live or work near a HobbyCo store I'm ok with paying for postage. I suppose we can't expect a relatively small operation like theirs to compete with the free delivery of the bigger players

    •

Shipping $19.99 for me in Melbourne - but i got a coupon for free shipping. I wasnt going to place the order, but with free shipping its too much to refuese, I wanted to get one for my son in a couple of years, guess I'll have to keep it till xmas now.

      confirmed checkout with free shipping.

Keen, but I noticed this isn't the regular Scalextric stuff it's a little smaller. I'm struggling to find any extension/additional track outside of buying another set.

    •

it's always the case with these smaller scale sets, you buy another set and have more cars, etc. We had 3 AFX sets at one stage, when on special buy another set.

Different with the 1/32 or 1/24 size sets, they cost a lot more so you do buy just track pieces you need or you can make 4 lanes with a 2nd set and some extra tracks to fill the gaps.

Added to cart, waited a few seconds and got a pop up about Free shipping. Clicked Redeem Now and shipping became free. It said "new customer free shipping" so on payment I selected "Express Shipping" and it deducted the full Express shipping price also. So $59.99 Express Shipped to Brisbane for me. Bargain.

    Thanks OP!

Nice! Trying myself but no pop up. will keep trying to see if I can get it to work.

      • +1 vote

I was doing a couple of other things at the time so can't tell you exactly how long it took for the pop up to arrive.

        • +1 vote

          mine was pretty quick

    •

Same here. I guess I'll need to find some lucky kid to give this to, otherwise……. :)

Super loop seems to be flying off the shelves - it's almost 7m of track!

  •

Hi all, does anyone know if the Scalextric 43 cars work ok on the Carrera go (also 1:43) track? Keen on adding a mustang and Merc to my collection

    •

      does this help:
      https://www.jadlamracingmodels.com/slot-car-buyers-guide-scalextric-or-carrera/#:~:text=Carrera%20however%20does%20have%20the,cars%20and%20is%20battery%20operated.&text=recommend%20Carrera%20GO!-,This%20range%20is%20significantly%20larger%20than%20Scalextric'%20%22Micro%22%20range,also%20bigger%20and%20more%20detailed.

      •

Thanks wisc. I saw that one earlier and it doesn't mention the sclaex43 range. I assume they seemed compatible given the same size

  •

    Can anyone comment on quality?
Is this Artin/Fast lane/Golden Bridge in disguise?
I've had a lot of fun with Fast lane sets from Kmart. But it's not Scalextric in my mind.

  •

Thanks OP. Clicked it up a few times and got the new cusotmer free shipping. It will be a good bit of nostalgia for me and a nice surprise for my son.

That kid looks less than bored!
I was tempted by this deal, but the video has remnded me how tedious my Scalextric 400 really was. I had forgotten about cars just stopping, and having to tweak the brushes every couple of laps, and xars coming out of the slot when there is a slight bump in the track on a corner and so on.
I think if I bought this I would spend an hour setting it up, squeeze the throttle and be fed up with it two minutes later.

The Scalex43 box says 4+ so that's probably a clue.

  •

Only way the free shipping worked was using incognito mode. Give it a try if you're having issues.

Cheap source of track extensions and spare cars
    https://www.bigw.com.au/product/hot-racing-speed-chase-batte...

    •

      Are these compatible?

      •

I think it is. The Scalex43 seems to be Artin/Fast Lane rebadged.
Need someone who has bought Scalex43 to post a picture of the track connections with a tape measure to be certain.

        •

I haven't tried connecting since they're meant to be gifts and the bite is all taped together, but the connectors are or looks like exactly the same between the 2 if that helps?

          • +1 vote

@zorrt: They are the same size track and will interconnect, except the scaletrix has clips that hold the track together. You would have to break these clips off on two pieces so the artin track could be connected (one each side of the artin section). i have connected both but not completely as I dont want to break the new track yet (Kids havent seen it)

Actually on reflection I can probably cut into base of Artin track so the clips slide in underneath rather than remove the clips off the Scaletrix track.

Only caveat is that this is an old Artin track I was given years ago. I am assuming new artin track is the same.

            Enjoy

            •

@RockyRaccoon: Update. Just bought one of the BigW $11 close outs and the track is exactly the same. The track has the tabs as well vs the older track I had which didnt have the tabs.

    •

Legend! Stupid pop up wasn't coming up for me so this saved me.

    •

      Cheers!

  •
