  • I think this one from banggood is better with four layer glass fiber, any comments?

    https://www.banggood.com/HD-White-Glass-Fiber-Portable-Proje…

    • Yes, in that the Banggood one has 1.5 gain vs this with 1.3 gain (if you believe those figures). It depends how/where you want to use it. If using inside in a permanent or semi-permanent location then yeah maybe the Banggood. This one would claim to be more portable - the Banggood one would need to be rolled up into a tube to minimise folds, whilst it looks like this one is a little more flexible and crease resistant. Personally, I'm waiting for my Yard Master screen to arrive from Amazon - more expensive but it comes with a frame to mount it on etc.

      • I am thinking BlitzWolf BW-VS1, same screen but with Tripod.

        https://www.banggood.com/BlitzWolf-BW-VS1-Bracket-Projector-…

This Yisiga more like the free one I got from the QKK mini projector.

        • Again, depends what you want to use it for. If outside I'd be wary about the blitzwolf as it is likely to move around a fair bit in any breeze. Inside would probably be fine - just need to find somewhere to store it when not in use (keep in mind it would be over 2m long). I actually got a motorised screen years ago for under $100 and hooked it up to the ceiling. The Yard Master I plan to use outside, and can fold up when not being used.

          • @PlasticSpaceman: For indoor at night.

            • @superforever: …..so either should be fine. If you have the room to store it when not in use, then I'd probably go the BlitzWolf as it has the mount. Keep in mind that for not much more, if you are able to fit it (ie not renting), then you can get a manual "pull down" or even a motorised screen eg https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/263024244278

              • @PlasticSpaceman:

                eg https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/263024244278

I did have them on my watch list, are they any good? I don't want to fix it because I put it in front of my current TV. At the moment I have a DIY hanger for my free 100" screen like the one in this deal, I think I can hang this eBay one on the DIY hanger.

                • @superforever: Are they any good? Well, you can easily pay ten or twenty times that amount for a high end screen (eg https://www.selby.com.au/brands/grandview/grandview-smart-12…) so "good" is a relative term. I suspect if you put a $2k and $100 screen next to each other for a direct comparison, you would immediately see the difference. The contrast may be better, the brightness almost certainly would be better as well as viewing angles. But are they worth 10 to 20 times more? I guess that also depends on how much disposable income you have & how often you use it.

Currently my motorised projector screen is fixed to the ceiling a few cm away from the wall, so it drops down just in front of the wall mounted flat screen tv. I got some marine grade stainless steel (so it looks good) snap hooks and U-bolts from Bunnings to mount it securely to the cross beams. I got a cheapie screen to begin with, and planned to replace it at some point in time. It's been there for nearly ten years now as, for me, it might not be great but it's good enough.

                  • @PlasticSpaceman: Just wondering compare with BW-VS1 which doesn't say gain in the spec but the eBay one is 1.3.

Just for a BlitzWolf VP6 entry level 1080p projector so won't pay that much for a screen.

  • Is this really any better then a white wall or the ones that come with some projectors already?

    • apparently yes, white walls will reflect the light whereas these screens are designed to absorb the light. Therefore giving you a better picture, or something like that

    • A white wall is frequently ok, in particular in a very dark room, but a projector screen surface is usually much smoother and can have a special coating that improves the reflection of light - improving viewing angles, contrast, brightness, etc. You can also prepare a wall so it is provides a better surface for projecting images - by sanding it and using special paint - but a screen is almost always better. The screens that come with projectors can be ok, and are usually better than a normal white wall, but usually it's worth paying a little more for a decent screen if you are going to be using it a lot.
