Seems to be the cheapest price going around for the Pixel 5 at the moment.

Previous cheapest seems to be $747 in November last year by Vodafone. I guess Officeworks is getting ready for the announcement of the Pixel 6 expected in October 2021.

Just Black also available for the same price.

  • Isn’t it smarter to wait for 5a at this price? Barely 20% off a year old phone. Or even save $250 and get the 4a 5g

    • +9

I'm on the Pixel 2XL and am holding out for the Pixel 6.

      • +1

Ah yea, I caved and bought the 5 after my P2XL stopped getting updates.

        • My 2xl could not hold the battery well, by that time 4a was heavily delayed. I have to choose another phone.would buy a pixel maybe next time.

      • +1

Im on the 2XL Panda also.
Battery isn't the greatest, but it gets through a day with a quick top up and heavy usage.
The pixel 6 (and pro) rumours and leaks have stopped me picking up one of the current models.

      • Me too, hoping I make it, my 2xl needs charging twice a day most days now

      • +1

        Also on the Pixel 2XL.

Getting pretty slow these days. Was considering the S21 for the form factor.

Wish the phone industry made smaller phones with more processing power.

      • +1

Me too!!! Holding on 2xl panda and waiting for 6 pro!

    • +2

The 5a is not being released in Australia.

  • So If i get this this Pixel 5, I will still get the Google Photos free unlimited storage even after the 1st June 2021 deadline?

    • +1

The free unlimited storage only applies to high quality photos, not the original quality.

      • -2

Not after June 1 it doesn't. Anything uploaded now counts towards usage.

        • +1

If you have a Pixel 5 device or earlier, your current backup quality options and benefits remain unchanged. Uploads in High quality from your Pixel 2-5 devices will continue to receive unlimited free storage. However, photos and videos backed up from other devices in High quality after June 1, 2021 will start to count towards your Google Account storage.

          • +1

@phxsun: Not sure. My Pixel 3XL photos app is showing the message - Free unlimited storage till Feb 2022, the date we purchased the phone in 2019.

            • @akd: Can't confirm since I'm using Google One extra storage but everything I've read says it's unlimited.

            • @akd: I believe that date is showing because Pixel 1-3 series had/still have free unlimited storage for original quality. After Feb 2022 it'll be free unlimited storage only in "High" quality.

  • Buy this with a 28 degrees credit card or wait for Pixel 6? Decisions….

    • +1

What does the credit card do?

      • +1

        Price protection.

  • +2

Caved. Even though this will probably drop to $650 tomorrow lol.

  • I'm still on my Pixel 1, but the microphone stopped working… Enticing offer.

    • +1

Nah.. Pixel 1 is the go. You still have free unlimited Google Photo access "forever" basically. All you need to do is to continue to keep this phone, transfer all your photos to it and keep enjoying the free photo storage as long as you want.

      • But how would I transfer without using the automatic upload from Google Photos from a new phone?

        • Just use a direct share / WiFI direct transfer between your new phones to the Pixel 1 every time you get new pics taken.

Make sure that you enable photo syncing on the Pixel 1 using the Unlimited storage option and turn OFF the photo syncing on your new phones. From there, everything will be synced up to photos only from Pixel 1, but you can still access all the pics from all your other newer phones.

          • @bchliu: I'm pretty sure this loophole is widely known out there by now and Google, if they want to, can easily fix this using EXIF data.

            • +2

@chewkl: They can of course. But there's no harm in Choanita trying since they already own a Pixel 1 and it's just sitting there without the Microphone. Just try it and ride along with it as long as they can until Google may fix it up with a EXIF patch or whatever. From memory, the T&Cs don't explicitly state it needs to come from the camera of the Pixel 1 itself, so technically can include photos saved onto the phone from the Internet or other resources.

        • +1

BTW.. if you don't already know. Pixel 1 is the only phone that Google Photos supports free uploads indefinitely. Other phones including the Pixel 4/5 etc will expire a year after their End of Life / Support from Google. Technically, it was advertised and contracted in the sale that Google will continue to commit to the unlimited storage out of Pixel 1 indefinitely. Lol.

  • +3

Should have been the launch price imo. And I'm a long time pixel owner.

    • +1

It would have dominated at this price. You wouldn't be able to buy anything else haha.

      • +1

I mean it's not like it's offering much more than the 4a 5G.

      • It would have done well that's for sure. Far better than less than 0.4% of sales. Shows that it was priced way too high.

  • +1

The instagram issue with the new pixel is so annoying. Reduces quality.

  • +1

    Pixel 3XL still going strong.
Would feel weird “upgrading” to this when it’s technically a downgrade lol.
Hanging to see what the P6 has in store for us.
