Have contacted a Melbourne shop, the staff is very helpful and she is going to contact IT department to see what they can do for Melbourians. Any one interested in Melbourne may give them a call.

    • I've also phoned up, but didn't have much luck. Nobody there seemed to know what the go was. Obviously a different store. Could you let us know how you go?

      • Still no reply from them yet. The branch I contacted is Nunawading, 88777200, maybe u call again to let them know there r a lot of interest for the plan in Melbourne

      • No luck

        • Neither here. I tried emailing another store too. Their response:
Unfortunately with this deal it is in store, today only.
As these deals are planned in advance with suppliers we do not have any way of honouring after today.
Apologies about this, hopefully we have another deal come up soon.

@EvilRabbit: i dont get why they cannot just do it over the phone

            • @AussieMark: heard from jb hifi today since I made a complaint and they have agreed to let me do the S21 deal once they reopen

  • Works out to be $24 pm for the large plan.
    Not bad.

    When does the deal expire?

    • In store only! Ends 2nd June!

      • AKA ‘today’

      • Thanks, better go later.

  • Does any one know if the invoice on yhe phone will say the discounted price of 1300 - 900 or will it say 1300?

Checking because of tax season :)

    • Invoice would list phone at stated RRP, and then have a discount of $900 attached (treated like a gift card).
So could claim the total invoice amount for taxes, obviously based off chosen depreciation rate over 3 year useful life.

Explanation for those who need clarity:

Based on 100% work use (find your own justification for it)

      I.E iPhone 12 Pro = $1699, Claimable for this FY would be $1699(30/365)(Either: (200/3)% or 33% (Diminishing/Straight-Line) = $93 or $46.5 (approx)

The amounts claimable next year with a full year having passed:
      Diminishing: $1606(365/365)(200/3)% = $1070
      Straight-Line: $1699(365/365)1/3 = $566.33

      • Really? A phome has a 3 year life? Lol.
Would it be outrageous if i argue it was 2 or just write off the remaining amouny after 2? I rarely havr my devices for more than 2 years. Also dont resale due to privacy / work stuff being on the phone

        • Yeah that's the ATO schedule for mobile phones. Theres no room for negotiation on that but the use of the diminishing value does help in that regard, will effectively allow you to claim the vast majority in the first year and then you might as well get a new one right after.

Rough plan would be buy today to get discount, and use until Iphone 14 comes out (whatever Iphone is called in 2 generations) around October 2022. that way you would have held for 16 months. The total amount you would have claimed against it by that stage would be:
          Residual Value:
          June 2021: $1606-1070 = $536
          October 23rd 2022 (based off iphone 12 rel.) = $536- (536(115/365)(200/3)%) = $536-113=$423

With residual value of $423 and RRP of $1699. you would have claimed $1276 or 75% of the phone's value, and would be able to buy a brand new release.
Factoring in that you get a $900 gift card, and using a 35% avg marginal rate of tax (most people) the benefit of claiming the phone would be 446.

The net cost of the phone to you (given that I'd expect the monthly phone plan to be claimed in entirety as a business expense) would be:
$1699-900-446=$353 over that 16 month period.

This sounds like a good deal to me and I'm seriously starting to reconsider

          • @JDMcarfan: the numbers sound amazing lol

          • @JDMcarfan: At $353 you would probably generate a profit after selling it 2nd hand? Assuming good condition, no cracked screen etc.

            • @CoronavirusVaccine: yeah certainly, obviously your technically supposed to include profit on depreciated asset (sale price-$423) as taxable income, but in all honestly I can't think of anyone who ever will, nor will the ATO ever follow up on it. Could always gift it to friend/family too.

P.S I didn't end up getting it today, went in-store but decided I'd wait for new gen releases to come around.
Will certainly be doing this regardless when I buy, but will be apportioning use 80/20 work/personal (based off usage) and won't claim full $99 given partial reimbursement by work.

  • Just tried Dandenong store in Vic, guy said the system doesn’t allow him to process any orders. Sucks coz I just smashed my phone this morning!

    • +1

You smashed your phone to justify for a new phone?

      • Yep! Regrets now

  • Just checked with JB HF, they can do the price match with officework (iPhone 12 128gb - 1377), and the rest can be paid with gift cards (AAMI - 5%), gaining additional about $65 discount. We went through almost all the processes, and …
my wife’s credit check just failed lmao.

  • I went in and grabbed the Oppo Find X3 pro with $1200 off instead of the $900, so paid $499 upfront on this same plan. also just asked chat for the $10 monthly credit which has been applied :)

    • Was this telstra's online chat or JB CSR agent?

      • telstra online chat

        • i got on with Telstra chat yesterday and they said they do not provide monthly credit. Right now, again, I am talking to them and they say only JB provides the discount but not Telstra. So what exactly did you tell them for the extra monthly credit?

          • @emperor: basically went in saying i was told to come online to get it added and they added it :D

            • @quikstix: In only got 6 months. I didn’t push for it. Today i asked again they said no more.

            • @quikstix: I have been requesting them in online chat but they keep saying only JB can provide the credit. If it's not a problem to you, can you please send me screenshots of the chat for the credit given?

              • @emperor: I've tried before also on my previous one 3months ago and was told no and I gave evidence of others getting it. They had said no also, unfortunately it's down to the agent you get not what info you give them

  • crazy

Went to JB hifi today in Victoria they said they cannot do the deal in victoria because of covid

    • Really? Why? And yet they are still open for business?

  • Does the $59 PM $500 GC still happen? Seems to be happening less and less frequently

  • What a great deal, but signing up to telstra with a new service has caused me some pretty big headaches. Trying to get my old number back with new service is taking a while…
