  • Is 58” unusual?

    • There's quite a few budget and store brand models at this size (EKO, Blaupunkt, Bauhn, Kogan, etc.)
… probably all have panels from the same factory.

  • How’s this for gaming?

    • +1

depends how serious a gamer you are. Its not 120hz, so you'll likely be playing at 60hz and probably have some minor input lag, compared to a PC monitor. Otherwise it looks wicked

  • for $100 extra isn't the S8 better ?

    $670 for the Hisense 55S8

    • What does S8 have that S5 doesn't? As far as I know, the S8 has better sound, which is something that can be fixed with a soundbar…

      • I bet that soundbar is gona cost you more than $100, but ye I guess you ve got a point

        • +2

I've just looked at the specs sheet for both and here are the fine differences:

S8 has "motion enhancement and compensation"
          S8's viewing angle is 178 whereas S5 is 89
          S8 has 4 HDMI inputs, S5 has 3
          S8 has 2.4 and 5ghz wifi bands, S5 has just 2.4
S8's audio power output is 10 watts, S5 is 8 watts
S8 is slightly heavier at 16kg vs 13.7kg

Looking at these differences again, it seems that S8 would provide a better experience for sports watching or if your hall is quite big and you'd like to watch the TV from a wider viewing angle. I'm not sure if the 5ghz band will matter for streaming 4k content…

          • @Hamlet: Good find.

As a second tv for the bedroom I guess the S5 would do.

            Cheers

            @Hamlet:

            S8's viewing angle is 178 whereas S5 is 89

The 89 degree figure is from the centre. Multiply by 2 to get the full viewing angle like the S8's reported figure. 89 x 2 = 178 degrees.

      📺 or 🍆 or both?

Funny that …… she told me the same thing.

  • How does this compare to the cheaper 50" for $470, appears to only have HDR10 and extra 8" screen size as difference?

    • Yep, just paying for the extra size
