I'll give it a go. I haven't dare try strongbow for an eternity!

Strongbow isn't too bad, heard that it is made from chinese apples now though?

  • +9

    will stoop to 5 seeds.
    will not stoop to strongbow.

    • +4

it is a decent deal if you do drink strongbow.

  • +1

Pretty good deal if you will drink the Pear. However how can anyone say 5 seeds is better than Strongbow. Rubbish stuff to me.

    • +1

5 seeds to me is one of the worst out there. Strongbow is def nicer

    • +2

they both taste rubbish to me, but i find 5 seeds slightly more bearable…maybe that's just me.

Sorry, what 'fine' ciders is everyone else drinking? Don't tell me ozbargainers are forking out $7.50 per Rekorderlig!

      • +3

the Rekorderlig cans work out cheaper (at least at my Duncan's - $65 for a mixed slab, if i recall correct). and the cans are a better size for Rekorderlig, in my opinion - don't want to drink TOO much lolly water in one go!

in terms of what cider i drink, my regular drinking cider ("cheapie") would be Monteiths, which you can usually pick up for about $50 a slab (and Rekorderlig when i feel like lolly water).

        in terms of "fine" cider:
-Eric Bordelet cider is THE BEST cider i have ever tasted in my life. in particular the pear cider, Eric Bordelet Poire Granit (will set you back about $50 a bottle).
-Le Pere Jules is a great value for money cider ($20 a bottle at Dan's). that is my usual "fine" drinking cider.
-then you also have Aspall or Henry of Harcourts Duck & Bull, which are not bad. they are also good "fancy" drinkers.

out and about, it's usually Bulmers or Magners (which i do enjoy), and Gypsy or Dirty Granny where they have it. i'll do Pipsqueak or Napoleon, but neither would be my first choice.

ps. ANY of the aforementioned ciders is a million times better than Strongbow or 5 Seeds!

I've had dirty granny which was pretty nice, if you're after lolly water you should try 46+ swedish cider.

I personally liked 5 seeds, maybe because it was the first cider I started buying (just when it came out). I find the regular apple to be really sweet but the cloudy is pretty tasty.

P.S - Never seen Rekorderlig in cans, over in WA most places sell it for $7.50 - $9 a bottle with very very limited specials (buy 3 for $20 is probably the best I've seen).

        • +2

+1 for the monteiths, tasty cheap cider.

I also haven't seen any Rekorderlig cans in WA, though if I recall correctly the bottles have been 3 for $18 for ages in my local Liquorland. Too sweet for my liking.

I really like the taste of Herrljunga +46 Pear Cider. It's $12 for a 4 pack from woolies or dan murphy's. You should give it a shot if you like a sweeter pear cider.

        http://danmurphys.com.au/product/DM_360888/herrljunga-46-pea…

      • Rekorderlig was only $60.00 for a carton of 15 bottle last month at BWS so only $4 a bottle.
Twas tempting, but I went for the Kopparberg at $56.00/15 bottles = $3.73 for a 500ml bottle. Nice n sweet, just the way I like it.

    • Personally, when I tried Strongbow Pear, it tasted exactly the same as Strongbow Sweet…..

But hey, whatever gets you there!

  • Good deal, shame it's a crap cider. 5 Seeds isn't a pretty poor effort as well.

    • +3

your last sentence contradicts itself IMO

      • Pretty easy to figure out typo:

Seeds is a pretty poor effort as well.

        • There are contradictions, and then there are contradictions.

    • Lol does this really work? :D

You'd still need to go to 1st choice liquour to redeem

my cupboard is overflowing with 5 seeds from last months promo…
i prefer the 5 seeds to the strongbow (not that either is a top shelf drop), but good deal regardless..

    Alcohol is bad mmmmk

    especially cider.

    • +1

      oh, ok. Thanks.

  • That's an awkwardly worded title.

    Four Square check-in…

I keep picturing 4 people playing four square in front of the cashier.

  • What's Foursquare ? Google brang up a religious church.

    • +1

      Join a cult & get a free 6 pack

  • I love the Strongbow dry, not sure why it's referred to as Lolly water though as it's alcohol content is higher than most largers. I suppose it could refer to Strongbow Original and Strongbow Sweet which are both too sweet for my taste.

Shame for me the deal isn't BOGOF as I'd drain them dry, Pear again is far too sweet.

    • i dunno though, the not so sweet ciders taste really bad to me, give me beer any time over cider.

  • Bought a whole bunch of 5seeds, glad i didn't buy too much, cause now i can buy some strongbow for variety. Pear cider sounds good. Now i've got to figure out what this 4 square thingy is. :/

Just in case anyone is serious: https://foursquare.com/

Download it on your mobile phone & use it to 'check in', posts on your facebook I think. Pretty much a stalker app, but I'll give up privacy for $16.

    • You do not need to have facebook to use foursquare. I just setup a foursquare with fake details and it worked fine for the last deal with matilda bay 6 packs.

      • +1

I'm honestly surprised that no one has uploaded the image that I've assumed they have to scan in…..

        • because there is no image…
the times I have done it in the past I didn't even need to show them that I had checked in..
they have the applicable discount barcode on their desks which they scan when you mention the foursquare check-in deal (or if they care, see on your phone that you had checked in)

        • Ahhhhhhhhhhh.. Yes! Now I remember, from the Fat Yak deal..

  • I'm just going to go to the counter with the drinks and say "can i get the 4 square deal?", and pretend like i've done the 4 square thingy. If they question it, i'll just say "oh, what do i need to do?".
