,I wouldn't recommend eufy after recent security loophole making people see random people for a couple hours

    • +3

      Has it been addressed?

      • +3

        Within a couple hours

        • +9

The bug occurred on a limited amount of devices (712), and addressed within 2 hours.
While the bug should have not occurred in the first place, the speed at which they fixed the issue, along with being transparent about it (from some statements I have read), I'd say it was handled pretty well.
If the opposite were true, then I'd be pretty hesitant.

    • +1

Yeah to be fair, I'd give them a very wide berth after that too.

  • +15

They have new cameras coming out soon. One which has a solar panel built into it which I am super keen to get. https://us.eufylife.com/products/t81241w1-r

    • Do you know how soon they're coming out in Australia?

    • It doesn't seem to have Homekit support :( . Odd.

    • Game changer and looks sleek as

  • Is 1080p good enough to get clear picture of person?
Some security camera footage I've seen on Facebook groups is pretty useless to identify a person.

    • +1

Not particularly. They'd need to be relatively close to the camera for decent facial definition. I've got a set of the other FHD cameras by eufy, and we've had a couple of instances where we needed to present footage of someone. You could get an idea of what he looked like, but not super useful.

    • +2

It's also the level of compression applied to security camera images, the quality of the sensor, and the quality of the lens. How well the lens is protected also matters.

Resolution certainly helps, but i'd say it isn't the most important thing, and make sure you look for sample videos before making security camera purchases.

  • Any recommendations on a decent wireless video door bell?

    • Depends on distance to camera, lighting conditions, quality and cleanliness of lens.
But 1080 is reasonable if those criteria are met.

This comment is useless without context.

      Edit: Neg isn’t from me.

      • Poor battery life
8 - 10 sec delay for live playback
White flash appears before it plays live
Doesn't pick up motion all the time
        Customer service is crap

        Is that better…..

  • Having been using 2C's (x2) for a while, I'm pretty underwhelmed. They definitely have their positives, but the battery life is poor if used anywhere where frequent detections occur (had to get a solar panel), the motion detection is incredibly unreliable (misses people walking in the front gate it's pointed at, but picks up cars driving past, trees moving in the wind) the motion detection zones just flat out don't work. Also has reasonably regular (at least once a month) times where the detections fail and you have to reboot the homebase to get it going again.
The range of the home base seems good though, and the app is pretty user friendly. I've ordered an Argus 3 to try as my next camera just because the Eufy hasn't lived up to expectations.

    • Another comment just reminded me, there is often a very bright white flash when the recording starts/viewing live which obliterates the entire screen, between that and the delay in starting, you've not got a great chance of seeing a lot at the start of an event.

    • My experience is that they aren't water proof, getting water in them everytime it rains, they aren't ant proof either with ants making nests in them

  • +1

Just be aware even though eufy still advertised on their website that homebase 2 would receive external storage in the future, this is not likely to happen: https://www.reddit.com/r/EufyCam/comments/lnowkh/its_has_bee…
So make sure you're happy with the current 16gb internal storage

  • Was able to buy their products from AliExpress like the add on cameras, got the Eufy cam 2 pro 2k for around $200 delivered. Seems they have now cut off shipping to Australia, shame when it's not possible to get some products from retailers here.

  • i currently have 2x Arlo Pro - the delay between detection and recording start is terrible, despite efforts to tweak zones and various network traffic settings. I'm finding they are absolutely unfit even for even basic security use or notifications, which is pretty unfortunate.
Not sure if anyone has come from those units to these eufy ones .. but i'm willing to try newer models/types if anyone has some comparison info or suggestions about using them?

    • I have the same issue and Arlo have confirmed that there will always be a delay between detection and the start of recording. I expect it's because battery powered cameras do not run all the time to save battery and have to be woken up when motion is detected. Most cameras that are connected to power record continuously and don't have this problem, they can even rewind to a few seconds before the movement is detected. Also be aware that the field of view on these cameras is very wide and you are unlikely to make out anyone's details unless they stand very close to the camera.

      • hi ozimodo - yeah i've read up about that expected delay, but even factoring in that aspect i find it's just not worth using the Arlo Pro with any reliability. That's why i'm after comparison info with these eufy 2c units. i realise even these will have some pause, and it's likely dependent on various factors as well (that can hopefully be tinkered to some degree), but using wired units is not suitable at my place so making the most of wifi restrictions is prob the best i can hope for

        • Keen to know too. My Arlo Pro cams often drop off and I had to reconnect. Lately, the app/system constantly moves me between home and away for the geofencing even though I’m inside the house. Have played around with radius, updates etc. No good :-(

    • There is also a delay in recordings starting with the Eufy cams

  • +2

My Homebase2 is connected to my router via ethernet, placed fairly close to all the cameras and doorbell and is on a 100/40 FTTP connection. Pretty sure all these factors play a part in minimising delays.

    • sounds like my Arlo Pro setup is connected almost identically to yours in these ways - are you finding the detect to record delay pretty snappy? Have you made any other changes, eg Qos?

  • posted in wrong spot - deleted

It's seems that quite a few ppl are unhappy with eufy and arlo. Can anyone recommend a good brand or combination then?

  • I have the model for over a year.
It said to be a weatherproof product. But after a few weeks of the rain, the lens became foggy.

    • Did you put in a warranty claim?

      • Waiting for a response from Eufy. But will try returning it to Supercheap as soon as the lockdown is ended.

        • +1

I had to go through warranty about a year ago. Eufy don't deal with warranty claims unless purchased directly through then. They only deal with the place of purchase so my recommendation is go straight to SCA. They don't have warranty centres in Australia

          • @cute as duck: But it shows how poor their service is, I have also contacted warranty support for Australia via their website. They have never ever contacted me to say what you're saying. Contacted them over water in the cameras and not cameras failing

            • @bobvegas: Oh I don't disagree their service is crap. Just passing on my experience. They have nowhere in Australia to send in faulty items for warranty claims, hence why they pushed me to get the place of purchase to start warranty claim

Purchased this a few months ago from Amazon. I returned it after a couple of weeks when the Homebase (which was connected directly to router via ethernet) lost connection to cameras and went offline. No matter how many times I hard reset both base and cameras, I could not get them back online and connected.
Easier to return item than put up with sorting that out.

    • Do you have good signal around house to be connected to cam

      • Yep. Cameras were at front of house where main router was located. All cameras had very good signal.

        • I had that problem too thought something wrong with the cameras or the home base then I realised I had another device transmitting data sat right next to the home base. Moved the home base away from any electronic devices transmits or receives data wirelessly problem solved.

          • @wtfnodeal: OK. Mine was working flawlessly for a few weeks then came home to see the Homebase with a red light and unable to connect to it from app.
Hard resetting many times couldn't get it back online. Took cameras down to resync to Homebase which didn't work.
Google found a couple of people on the Eufy forum with same issue.
I decided instead of stuffing around with Eufy support to just return to Amazon as was only days away from the 30 day free return. I know I could have still returned after that but decided if this issue came up in the first few weeks didn't want to have a continuing problem. Also gave me the option of doing more research and possibly purchasing again down the track or just going to a wired system. Alas I have done neither.

    • I briefly had this issue with one camera. Support updated my Homebase remotely and haven't had an issue since. Took less than half a day to rectify

Bought the 3 pack of Eufy 2C from supercheap about a year ago. Had an issue with one of the cameras showing a static choppy feed so raised a ticket to eufy, went back and forth troubleshooting, sending clips to them. Tried firmware updates but that didnt fix it, so ended up returning 1 camera from the pack to supercheap auto. They sent it away, and it was replaced after a couple of weeks.
I really can't complain about the after sales service in that situation, I would recommend them based on the above.

After a few months it seemed as though the cameras were missing motion detection events. It was rare at first, then got worse and worse until we had a parcel stolen from our front porch without the camera detecting any motion. We messed around with motion zones like crazy, tried different sensitivites, switched cameras around, but nothing seemed to work. Again I raised a ticket, this time there was no solid outcome. I was set to sell them all and buy reolink for 24/7 recording. I held off buying the reolink and over the next few months a number of firmware updates seems to have actually fixed the issue - we dont get missed events anymore.

As for battery life, i get 3-6 months from each camera depending on location and traffic. My driveway cam is up to 154 days since charge (about 5 months) and its still 41% battery. The front yard cameras which deal with cars driving past get about half that 4-6 months total.

as for the security breach last month, thats another issue entirely….I'm still processing that one

  • I got the two 2C version from Aliexpress and one indoor camera. I am quite happy with that so far , battery now 70% leave after 50 days usage . only consume less than 20% of 16 G memory . The app is quite user friendly and easy to use . Firmware updated 4 times in the pass 50 days , I think they are working well to fix the bug . Paint point is they promise they will develop new firmware for indoor camera and get the video save in the base , but not yet done , so need extra SD card for indoor camera . 1080P is not bad , but compare to 2k indoor camera , you will know 2k is a bit better quality . The front door camera does not detect human movement very well even after increased the detecting rate , at the end I changed to use detect any movement , and it caught all the movement after that , however there was one wrong detect at mid night and scare family that a big fly was flying around the camera . Those are all my experience of using the product. At the end still happy with them .

  • I've been using mine since July 2019, I guess that's the previous version of this (mine is model T8807CD3). They have worked flawlessly apart from the minor gripe people have been saying about the short delay on recording. I haven't had to recharge any camera batteries yet and they still have lots of charge left. I do recommend them with the proviso that I don't own this model.

    • Since July 2019 you haven't charged once? You must live in a very remote location or placed cameras with very few notifications/recordings daily.

I charge my EufyCam 2 with the 180 day battery once every 90 days

  • Any delays/lags with live feed? My Arlo Pro has about a 1-1.5 sec lag.

    • +1

about the same, maybe even up to 5 seconds?

  • I was looking at buying a eufy camera setup with the base station (vers 1 or 2) a while back, but what really put me off was that you are limited to the on-board memory of the base station for storage, they were always going to enable storage to external USB but that never came to fruition. Now they mention they are not going to implement it and that it will only be available on their future gen devices.
I can't remember the exact storage capabilities of the base station but if I remember right one of the versions had emmc 16GB on board and the other version not much more, not much room for HD recordings. So ensure you do your research on the unit before purchasing if you expect to be able to save your recordings to an external HDD.

have been using 5 eufyCam 2 Pro 2 k from aliexpress , plus 2k battery operated door bell bought from local shop and 2 indoor cam from amazon for few months.
So far, they all have slight delay but still manage to catch most occasions in time.
for the eufy cam 2 pro all doing well with no issue, battery life is amazing and should last up to 1 year as advertised.
for the door bell battery is pretty bad though, advertise to last for 6 months but i mine last less than 2 months. tried to adjusted the sentivity etc but still draining the battery like crazy. It says there's 2000 false events filtered by AI within 2 weeks with sensitivity 2, so no idea if its faulty or whats wrong with it .
for the indoor cam, they are good but they can interfere with LED lights, took me hours to find a spot that's not as bad but one of them still have constant lines (interference) on the footage which is annoying.

So overall , still happy with eufy products so far.
