I’ve been rocking one of these since release, and so far it’s the best phone I’ve ever used. Do you have to be more careful with it than the average smartphone? Yes, absolutely. Is it for everyone? Absolutely not. But if you’re looking for a phone with an absolutely massive screen that also remains pocketable, you can’t do better until the category of folding phones matures in a few years time.

Folding is not that good right. Chill for a few years maybe. Rollable seems to be better, as you only need to focus on one screen.

      • Rollables come with their own problems, namely the issue with not being able to put a hard cover on the display is compounded when the display is on the outside at all times.

        • That assuming cover tech stops here. Rollable cover sounds very plausible. At least protective film is very flexible.

          • @Xantar: I mean, sure. But keep in mind that no rollable phone has made it on the market yet, only to working prototype stages. Until we have real-world data, folding will continue to be the dominant tech in transformable phones.

And if rollable tech continues to improve, so will foldable tech.

            • @TheRealCJ: Hence, I say wait a few year. Right now is more of niche product

    • Question what price do you think it's worth from your perspective? Like what price do you think, as it drops be worth def grabbing? Also question how durable is it when closed? Can you just put it in your bag or pocket and forget about it?? Or it doesn't have that durability yet ( ie not open ). I am keen to get one. But thinking maybe a S7+ tab plus a normal S20/S21 be nearly the same price. Or would you still go the fold 2? Lastly, if the battery was 6000/7000 mAh I would have bought it now at 1,6XX edu price. I feel the bigger screen could def do with a bigger battery

I get a full day out of my phone, mostly using the main screen. YMMV of course, but the 4500mah battery is perfectly adequate for an all-day phone.

As for if it’s worth it? I mean, for me absolutely, I have yet to regret my purchase, and in fact going back to a normal phone is actually quite difficult for me, I used an S10+ for a day a few weeks ago, and it was weirdly shaped for me, the Fold 2 has a very narrow profile when closed, which means despite being basically twice as thick as a normal phone, it’s actually much easier to use in the hand, although that comes with the caveat that the outside screen is a nonconventional aspect ratio which can cause some issues.

I mean, going by history, the original Galaxy Fold is still available for about 1500 brand new, and since the release of the Flip 5G the original Galaxy Flip has dipped to under a thousand dollars. I’m not sure if they’re going to go much lower than that, honestly, but that’s the curse of early devices in a whole new category, especially since as of the Fold 2 Samsung has promised 3+ years minimum of OS updates, which means their value is going to hold for longer than in the past.

I think it comes down to what you want, an S21+Tab 7 is going to be a lot more device for your money, but also means that you’re going to have two devices, one of which doesn’t fit in your pocket. I think foldables are going to carve out a niche similar to the one “Phablets” had in the early 2010s, especially as the technology matures and prices drop.

    • Happy with my Note 9 (512 that's 1/2 full with a 256 SD card that's near full) phablet sized means I don't need a tablet either. Was initially excited by the Fold 2 but the cut in memory from the Fold 1's 512 to 256 and the lack of SD made it a hard pass, let alone missing features like the 3.5mm jack that even cheap Sammie phones have.

The Fold 3 looks to possibly have s-pen support but no silo, which is a real issue and assuming it to lacks SD memory support then another hard pass. I will just keep waiting and watching this space I guess :) The lack of storage is a real killer for me. Issue for me is what to do if my Note 9 dies, probably a Sammie A52 5g or import a Experia 1iii. I will really really miss the s-pen though. Maybe next years Note will be the one, the last few since the Note 9 have been insipid.

Sadly I think expandable storage is getting close to total phase-out in samsung phones. I agree it’s a real shame, and I’m not happy that the storage on my Fold 2 isn’t expandable; it’s the closest thing to a dealbreaker for me

Just upgraded from my Note 9 to the Fold 2 last week. I really didn't want to give up my SD card reader and headphone jack - but I honestly haven't missed both all that much so far.

I never realised how long it had been since I last used wired headphones, my Sony bluetooth earbuds are the only thing I use these days. And for storage - I never stored all that much on my phone, so other than some movies/photos/bigger games, 256GB suits me fine.

I do miss the S Pen a liiiiiiitle… but all in all, the big screen and the newer battery in the Fold 2 really won me over. I will still keep my Note 9 as a backup, but after I realised I was holding on too tightly to features I didn't really use - it became a no-brainer to upgrade.

I will say though, the Xperia 1 iii does look amazing.

I picked up the fold 3 weeks ago and I agree it's the best purchase ever having that bigger screen is a game changer . I managed to get it to 1499 with Vodafone and some trade in credit and bonus trade in credit !

  • Is the screen aspect ratio good for watching netflix/YouTube?

  • still pricey, but cheaper than the original price.

I upgraded from Note 8 to Fold 2. thus this unit will be my daily driver for the next 3 years. happy with the phone even if 256GB only. coming from Note 8, this is already double the capacity of what I used to have in Note 8.

the only problem I had was to find a nice and suitable case for the phone. I settled using the Spigen Armour Pro Case. made it bulkier, but I'd rather have a bulky working phone than a slim cracked one. =)
