1920 x 1080 only, 3080 is an overkill, and dell still in trouble with last gen vbios issue/false advertisement issue.

    • +1

Just to clarify this model isn't affected by that VBIOS issue. Also a 3080(mobile) which is nothing like a desktop 3080 is perfect for 1920 x 1080 @ 360Hz. IMO 1440p on a laptop seems kinda pointless if you want game at high refresh rate in modern titles.

      • Probably for a 15" or less 1440p is overkill.
        But I'd say for a 17" 1440p isn't a bad option.

        • +1

The issue is less the screen but the performance. With modern AAA titles at 1440p a desktop 3080 can struggle to reach 144fps let alone the crappy mobile version. When you drop $4k on a desktop replacement class laptop you would hope you could get a few years of performant gaming out of it, 1440p wont give you that unless you're playing older games. Not sure why you need a PPI (pixels per inch) that high anyway.

  • Looks like a great spec'd machine, except for the screen. At 300 nits and FHD only , I would have hoped Dell would have included a better screen on a machine that they originally sold at nearly $6k.

  • Screen resolution is disappointing, not that I was going to buy this anyways

  • Care… this model does not have Optimus due to the 300Hz refresh.

    • Isn't it the G-Sync display not the high refresh rate which doesn't allow for optimus?

      • +1

IIRC its the 300Hz panel because the IG cannot drive that high.

        • I know for a fact that G-Sync displays require the GPU to be directly connected to the display i.e. no iGPU available.
Perhaps high refresh rates display also have this problem

    No LOVEKEANU = no deal!

    • Any idea why LOVEKEANU doesn't work for this laptop?

  • dont forget the AMEX offer : spend 1000 get 120 back

Better deal. Also the Alienware's here are disappointing. I bought my 17R4 from BHPhoto a couple years back, even with the 10%GST, still came out cheaper and better specced.

    • +3

Firstly, that's a 15" not a 17". Secondly, that's US price so USD $2,900 is AUD $3,749. Add shipping and GST and you are now looking at $4.2k for US model, which means it's harder to get warranty repairs and it won't have the right plug.

      Not a like-for-like comparison.

      • Actually you're right, when I bought my 17R4 from BHPhoto, there was a massive saving to be had, even with the taxes paid here. And when I called Alienware for a minor issue I had, they didn't bother with checking where I bought it from.

I just checked Alienware USA site, holy moly, have prices gone to astronomical levels. Their 17inch pricing is bonkers. I do not envy people wanting/needing to buy right now.

      • It should be noted that the 15" version is available on the Dell AU site for cheaper than your conversion, i.e. $3709

  • Wish this Lenovo deal would come back. It might be a 3070 but the rest of the specs and price blow this Alienware out of the sky.
