  • HDMI2.1 and I'm sold

    • No HDMi 2.1 unfortunately. Later in the year they are planning to release ones with HDMI 2.1

Paid around $1100 on a TCL 75P715 only a couple weeks ago on Appliance Online through Ebay special

    • +22

Totally different tv though with different technology.

    • +7

      That's hardly a bargain.

    • +2

      🤣

  • Real mini LED?

    • +2

From specs, says. Mini LED Backlight 900 Zones

    • -2

12.9" iPad Pro mini LED screen has 2500 dimming zones Vs only 900 on this gigantic 75" TV.

Translated: do not expect a much better TV technology than regular LED in this price range. Save your money and buy an OLED TV (now) or wait for Micro LED to come down in price, once released.

If I had a need for a new TV now, I'd go for a CX series LG OLED.

    Don’t forget discounted GC

  • +2

900 zones aren't enough, I'll wait for the next gen. Good price though.

    • +2

      Not sure if joking…

      • Exactly. My Local Dimmed Sony only has 32 zones and it looks pretty good let alone 900…

        • +2

Samsung Neo only have like 800 dimming zones

          • @superforever: where the Samsung outshines is the algorithm and the chip, its not just about numbers..

      • -4

iPad pro has 10,000+ zones and 1000 nits

        • +2

What does that have to do with the price of fish?

          • +12

@harryzee: The development of LED's has recently been linked with major pollution in developing countries. Due to the increased pollution levels, and in turn the increased levels of pollutants in natural waterways, fish populations have drastically decreased leading to higher prices.

        • +3

And the price of an ipad pro 75"?

    • These mini LED's will still suffer from blooming no matter how many zones they have. Black crush is another flaw (case in point being the QN90A).
Micro LED will be the only true competitor to OLED.
Even the Hisense Dual Cell couldn't come close.

      • True, but at a much higher cost and ~2years wait.

    • Next gen is still going to be 900 zones.. my guess.

  • Does this TV have another international name? Having a bit of trouble finding equivalents

    • +35

      In italian we say televisione

    • Telewizor 📺

    • Pretty sure its a TCL Series 8 - could be wrong though

  • +4

I love how googling the model name just comes up with calculator results XD

    • Marketing team should be sacked

      • I prefer not to pay for a marketing dept…

  • Anyone actually seen this in real life? Isn't mini led meant to give this oled levels of black ?

    • +6

      I think that’s MicroLED.

      • Still uber expensive

      • I am very confused with those names

        • +1

Yeah learning what is a marketing term vs what is an actual technology can get annoying and confusing.

    • This is 900 dimming zones. OLED is 8.3 million dimming zones

      • +1

I think even the Samsung Neo only have like 800 dimming zones

      • High end leds have those sort of numbers… some even less… and their blacks are almost comparable

  • I looked at this earlier. Good TV. Just too thick to wall mount. I like the flush mount look. Good deal.

  • +1

Is anyone risking 2K on a TCL TV?

    • +4

3 yr warranty. People said the same things about Hisense 4 years ago

      • TCL's warranty service is significantly worse than the other big name manufacturers in my experience.

    • i have had my TCL 65inch for 4.5 years, and never had any problem.

      • I've had mine for just under 3 years now, have had to go back for warranty once.
I'd say anything around the $1000 mark and it's hard to beat.
As soon as you go above this then i'd look at one of the main brands, LG/Samsung/Sony etc.

    • Haha you should have seen the price when it first released. I believe it was $7000 this time last year

      • My lord. Nobody paying thatbfor TCL regardless of how good the TV might be. My issue with TCL is the quality of the picture - I've found with cheap TV's that they ha e good theoretical specs, but don't perform as good as the Samsungs/LGs/Sony in real life.

        • +1

Definitely. The clarity just isn't there. Upscaling, sharpness, motion etc. Its well behind the big 3 brands. That's been the going saying for a while with the other companies - great hardware, poor software. They are slowly getting there though.

    • You definitely get what you pay for.

I got an 85P715 and it has shocking backlight bleeding (very visibile in dark scenes) and constantly disconnects from the internet (even with a LAN connection).
TCL warranty told me neither problem is bad enough to warrant a return or a replacement.

Might be worth taking a chance if you're willing to go to small claims over any problems.

  • I got a 3years old TCL 70inch tv, the HDR thing can not be turned off, it makes every Netflix HDR content unwatchable, way too dark. Other than that great tv, not sure the new one is the same or not.

    • Turn off Micro dimming.

      • Turning on micro dimming brightened the HDR scenes for me
        but YMMV

    • Get a chromecast and force it to display SDR only

  • Not available anywhere in Sydney, only available for pickup in Newcastle

  • TCL make great TVs in the USA. How do I find the equivalent model. If the boneheads don't make consistent model numbers how do they expect to sell TVs?

  • +1

    900 zones would be 41 x 22 zones.

The panel is approx 166 cm x 94 cm.

So each zone is a little bit over 4x4 cm in size.

  • -1

For reference, the new ipad pro 12.9" has 2596 dimming zones.

  • Aren’t they releasing newer 4k, 8k screens soon? C725, C825 xxx. Though they will be a bit higher priced than this one. Also, the newer models have 4 mics which pick up everything in the room & have a camera. You can “trust” TCL to not use all the data they collect for sinister purposes

  • +1
  • they also got the 8k for the same price.. not bad if you are in the market for a 75 inch 8k tv

  • Reply to the last line comparing this to a C815 75" for similar price:
I bought the 55" C715 at the start of the year after realising that the extra cost for the c815 is literally just a soundbar installed at the bottom of the TV. If you have any home audio solution currently installed and are looking for an upgrade to the screen, I would say that the C815 is a waste of money compared to the Mini-LED tech on display here instead.
Also, 4k screen looks fantastic at 55" compared to more expensive brands of the same size. It's only when getting to 75" or larger that the differences become as apparent (in my opinion)

I put an order online, and jb told me there has the last one in their company, but it's has been displayed Around six months with a three-year warranty. I am still struggling to pick up or not.

    • Lift with your legs, then you might be able to pick it up.

      • Bro u are genius 🙈

    • Ask for 1500

      • 1950 is the last offers 😑

        • Stay away from display sets unless you really think it's a good deal.

    • Says no more stock online. Stores would still have some but have to ask individually

  • Ordered early on… called to pickup today as I had no confirmation Text in the past 2 days.. not stock and no ETA… so just told to wait.. gg

  • I ordered early on, showed stock, checked with help line was confirmed.
Then received a call none left bad luck and refunded.

Appears they have bad inventory control and gave away units to others/friends etc in the meantime.

  • +1

Ending up getting ex-demo for $1756 at good guys, jb refunded my order

    • How did you managed to get the ex demo?

      • +1

Checked stock online - some stores had 'see in store' listed so went to the first one and they were happy to sell it. However there was a string of incidents.. Went in Saturday being told I can have it for $1896 then going in the next day after thinking it over and them saying there not allowed to sell it for that price & I would have to come back like next week to speak to the original guy … Just to sort it out on the day I ended up on $2150 with 5 year warranty.. but then 20mins later after it was supposed to be boxed and ready to go.. they let me know they had rounded the bolts for the stand.. (And I need to wall mount) they then dropped it a further $100 so tv was & $1756 + 5 Year warrant ($299) = $2056. Got the bolts out with $8 easy outs from bunnings

If you're in WA there's another one at Malaga GoodGuys as they offered that one to me after the bolt stripping incident happy to provide receipt if you wanna get them to potentially price match

        • +1

          Thanks unfortunately I'm from Victoria,

  • For those that have purchased, what's your verdict on the picture quality?

    • +1

It's worth every bit of that money. I don't think anything comes close to the picture quality at this price point. The contrast & black levels are almost comparable to an oled. Obviously not the same but it's a big jump from normal TV's As a bonus the built in speakers are surprisingly good. Overall fantastic value.
