  • RT-AX82U isn't even a year old. BL might have too much stock.

    • +1

Yeah, I found it odd it was listed as Clearance

On another note, could probably get Officeworks to price beat it. $6 delivery to me in Perth, would be $237.50 if they beat it with 5%. Currently listed at $499 there lol

Just rang them to see if they'll beat it….said no because it's a clearance item. Guess I'll just order thru Bing Lee then. Cashrewards at 4% essentially covers the postage cost and then some.

        • I hate when OW does that. It's still a good deal for local stock.

          • +2

            @Twix: Yep!
Ended up getting a pair so I can mesh them. Used the Cashrewards $30 off over $400 spend.
Worked out to be $232 each delivered. CR tracked at $16something back but I doubt it will come thru as it says 1% with the coupon. Either way, cracking deal.

            • @whitelie: I bought in store with the router being transferred in from another store. I wonder if this will still go ahead or if I will be getting a phone call soon…

              • +1

@Kuzdog: I would have thought if you got it in-store, the stock is allocated to you immediately.
I purchased within half an hour of putting this post up and was in stock but I believe stock won't get allocated until the order is processed for shipping…which in BL's case is 3-10 days after purchase according to their initial email (which coincides with the email this morning).

I would have been happy with this router but also got a good deal upgrading to the 88U's.

    • Got an email from customer service just now…

Due to an unforeseen system error, it seems we did not accurately represent how many of these we had in stock at our stores and warehouse. We have contacted the manufacturer and they have advised that the product is now discontinued and we will not be receiving any further stock of the item

They're offering the AX88 for $389 and a $50 gift card, the Netgear RAX43 for the same price or can refund my order.

Any thoughts Twix? Obviously the Asus is a much better router, just not sure I can justify a further $300 odd as I'm getting a pair. Effectively becomes $200 with the GC's so a very good deal.
I've got a Netgear now and not impressed with their UI. The RAX43 is 3x3 compared to the 4x4 on the 82U and 4200 vs 5400 total speed.

Or am I better off cancelling it and finding the 82U's somewhere else for cheap?

      • Take the RT-AX88U + gift card deal or get your money back. Amazon AU Prime Day is next week if you can wait. No guarantees any router deals will show up. The best I can find is the RT-AX82U $379 @ JB Hi-Fi.

        • +1

          Thanks, I think I'll take the AX88's.
          Appreciate the reply

  • Is this better than the other deal?

    • Hardware wise the CPU, flash and RAM are identical on both the RT-AX82U and RT-AX58U. RT-AX82U Wi-Fi pulls ahead in some of the speedtest charts from Dong Knows Tech.

      Asus have a comparison here

Better AX 5GHz speeds due to 4x4 and better gaming features if that's important to you. For under $40, it's better future proofing to me. I'll be running 2 in a mesh, eventually going to ethernet backhaul.

  • Looks like they've been smashed and may be OOS?
58U still available in the other deal

    • It says in stock and pickup available.

      • It now says "Check for availability" where the "Add to cart" button was before for me…If I click on that, it launches the online chat.
May be only local C&C stock?

        • Yeah seems to be C&C only now.

  • +1

Well that was fun… Out of stock. How???

  • Similar looking to the Asus x Gundam
edition….maybe I should get this and print stickers to reskin it.

  • Does this actually give you better range than the ax58?

    • I would say the range is very similar, slight speed differences.

The speed benefits will come from devices capable of utilising the 4x4 MU-MIMO. Along with LAN aggregation so you can combine ports 1 and 2 to effectively give a 2gb port.

If neither of these are important, then the 58U is fine

  • Damn, just got gigabit HFC so this would’ve been handy. OOS on my end

  • just missed it, then added to cart as back in stock, and OOS while on order page

  • +2

    Absolute ripper of a bargain!
Well done to those who snagged one.

Was able to get JB to price match. Initially the sales rep on the floor shut it down and refused, pretty much got told to go elsewhere.

So, took the item to checkout and asked to match it there. No hassle despite it already showing as out of stock/only selected stores but not showing which store.

      Awesome!

  • Thanks - picked one up from my local Bing Lee. Replacing my R7000 router

    • do you have gigabit internet? how much of a speed increase have you seen?
