  • Sweet as, I've been waiting for this one to drop down.

Is this better than that other one which I bought?

    • Which is?

      • -1

The other one trending a couple of days ago.

        • I believe you mean the Gooloo 1200a jump starter, in which case yes, this one is better, but really only incrementally.

1200 peak amps is enough to jump start just about every diesel and petrol car on the market, 1500a is enough to jump start most medium-sized trucks too. The 1200a charges via a dc barrel plug, while from what I can see the 1500a charges via USB-C.

Otherwise they're pretty much comparable, if you're planning on using it just as an emergency jump starter than I doubt you'll see any difference unless you plan on starting any prime movers.

There was also one posted a few days ago, but seriously, if you bought it, you can at least give us the product name if you are asking us to compare them.

    • Dont know what you are looking at… but mine says

      Sold by GOOLOO Direct

      • Says it on checkout

        • That's the same name I saw when I was purchasing my jump starter back in February.
It freaked me out too. Then I realised it must be their legal company name for their trading contract with Amazon AU.

  • Has anyone had success jump starting a car with these?

    • +3

I've got the 2000A one which is overkill for my use but hey, it worked great on my car when car battery was completely dead and was sitting in my boot for 5 months prior. Great insurance carrying one of these in the boot if you ask me

      • Does it have a funny smell? I’ve heard some people say that.

        • This sat in the front seat with us on a 2 week road trip distributing charge, never noticed any smell.

        • Nope - can't say I've shoved it up my nostrils or anything but definitely haven't noticed any smell just from it being around, or when I used it.

I started my 2.5L RAV4 with the smaller (800A) version. This one should be more than enough.

      • Petrol or hybrid?

        • Petrol.

Ford Ranger PX no dramas the other week.

yes jump started Mazda 3 the other day and was quick

They are quicker to use, more convenient, and generally work better than jumping from another car. They are also much smaller to carry around with you than a decent pair of jumper leads. I have the 2000 and have used it at least a dozen times.

Last time I charged it was around six months ago and since then it has jumped started my diesel Pajero 4 or 5 times. Still showing 3/4 bars for the charge.

I've jump started other vehicles as well, and they have always started immediately.

      • +3

Yes i've jumped several cars with the 2000A and only a week ago someone was stuck for 2 hours, they walked to SuperCheap and bought a set of jumper leads and someone else with a 4cyl was helping jump the van but it wouldnt crank. I had it going first crank with the Gooloo.

Also late Christmas eve i jump started a woman shopping who was parked nose in and downhill with no way to access the front of the car. They were contemplating getting 2 sets of leads, but the Gooloo got her going. So there a lot of benefits with it where jumper leads may not work.

    • Nice, thanks all for the feedback!

  • Should I get this or something like the Noco Genius 5?

    • According to Project Farm, Gooloo starters outperform the Noco's dollar for dollar.

    • Noco Genius are chargers NOT jump starters. The Genius is for when you sense you battery are going south - left some lights on but not so depleted that you cannot start your car. You'd then plug in the Genius to "maintain" the battery's charge.

Noco Genius would be similar to the popular CTEK.
Gooloo would be similar to the Noco Boost series and as mentioned, the Gooloo appears to be better and more bang for the buck - according to Youtube reviewers.

Do these last long in the car boot?

    What's everyone's strategy

Got this in the last deal. Used it as a powerbank for a long road trip. Very handy to be able to charge it at the same time as charging 2 other devices. Was able to rapid charge some devices with the right cables.

Got home from the trip and the other car (PX Ranger) was completely flat. This jumped it easily using the boost function, car battery was at 2.5v. Ranger electrics were a bit weird as I drove it around charging the car battery but went back to normal after I eventually turned the car off and on again.

Waiting for a Century battery deal to replace the Ranger battery now.

  • Ordered one, need it to start a flat motorcycle bat that's been sitting here for 6 months.

    • +1

At that point i'd order a charger rather than a jumpstart

      • If only I could fit my bike in the lift and bring it up to my apartment

        • +4

You simply take the battery out. Most likely sitting under your seat. Have had to do it in the past.

          • @rdhupar: Tbh, I never thought about doing that. Oh well, I guess its a handy device to have.

      • Why? These are much more versatile.

      • Is there a single device that can do jumpstarting and pass-through charging?

  • Thanks op, been contemplating buying a Gooloo for about a year now after seeing how good it worked gor a mate. Finally bit bullet

  • Any safety concerns regarding the storage of one of these in a vehicle during summer in QLD? Don’t want the thing catching fire or exploding from the high temperatures inside the vehicle if that’s a possibility.

    • +1

I'm concerned about the same thing. Someone said they store theirs where the spare wheel is under the boot, so I'm gonna follow suit and do the same.

      • Yeah that’s what I’m thinking about doing as well

    • I put mine in an old 6 pack foam esky that I had lying around. Hopefully that will keep out some of the extreme temps if the car is left out in the sun. Save me twice in an old Mitsubishi Verada
