Been after one of these for a while and spotted this. Was after a Logitech K400 but this was a fair bit cheaper so will see how it goes!

Super handy if you’re lazy and don’t want to leave the couch to change what you’re watching.

Happy buying!

Good keyboard. I got if for exactly the same reason - so I can be a couch potato. It's served me well over the years. I actually got this over the Logitech K400 because this one has a bigger touch pad.

OP, the Amazon description you've copied is super confusing. The "W/USB" makes it sound like a wired keyboard.

I suggest changing the title to "Microsoft N9Z-00028 Wireless Media Keyboard With Trackpad $49.95 (Free Delivery) @ Amazon AU". If that won't fit because it's too long, drop the "With Trackpad".

First paragraph of the description should say "Doesn't do BlueTooth, has a USB-A nano-transceiver. Has a Trackpad instead of numeric keypad, no backlighting anywhere, runs from AA batteries." That should pre-empt most of the standard questions.

    • I wonder why you were negged. Your comment is valid the ‘w/USB’ is confusing. I thought there is a USB slot in the keyboard…and the trackpad should be indicated.

      • I wonder why you were negged.

It happens pretty much every time I try to improve an OzBargain post. Maybe someone thinks I'm criticizing the OP? I don't think it's the OP doing the negging. I just assume that several thousand people read my comment, and with that many people, there are bound to be a few arseholes.

These were my immediate questions for this product. Glad I came across your comment.

This is a great keyboard if you do a lot of BIOS, admin and system bench test work - actually better than Bluetooth because you can't BIOS/UEFI control with a BT keyboard… I've had my MS Wireless Media Keyboard for years, but the only issue I have is the keycap lettering is now starting to peel off. Otherwise would buy again :)

  • This doesn't seem to have backlit keys? At least I can't seem to find any mention or pics to indicate as such.

There is a Rii Branded one that looks fairly similar, that looks like it does have backlit keys for around the same price.

    • Wouldn't backlighting reduce the battery life from "several months" to "a couple of hours"?

      • I have owned a Logitech K830 for a fair few years now. Illuminated Keyboard on that one doesn't stop the battery for lasting months. Not exactly an apples to apples comparison. That one was, and still is, an amazing piece of kit. If it was still readily available for around this price I'd just buy another. Alas…

        • How much did you use your keyboard in those months? I can't see how a keyboard can be backlit and not chew through batteries. About 10 LEDs, each using at least 10mA, means 100mA current draw just from the backlighting. So your average eneloop AA batteries will last 19 hours. Unless the keyboard is packed with a huge lithium-ion battery?

@Russ: About as much as you would expect for a media keyboard.
