  • I'm in need of a new router, and some googling tells me this is a decent choice at a reasonable price… Hopefully some comments in the morning will help me feel better about my impulsive 1am purchase.

      this or
      https://www.amazon.com.au/ASUS-RT-AX55-Wireless-AX1800-Routeā€¦ for $154
was my top choice but later decided to go with Nighthawk MK 62 for $149

Thanks. I've already got the TP Link Deco M5 mesh set up, so I was swayed by having it all (I assume) nicely compatible and in 1 app. Is the AX55 worth the extra money?

        • i read in whirlpool that AX20 has better 2.4Ghz speed

          https://versus.com/en/asus-rt-ax86u-vs-tp-link-archer-ax20

          • @Fuzzy69: Well anything should be better than the Budii that iiNet gave me 6 years ago which keeps dropping out. And it'll be good to make the most of the gigabit speed upgrade from Superloop. Thanks

            • @chriise: ah another superloop user… i switched form belong… i fu*** hate them.. worst service ever. i have 2 useless belong router that doesnt help at all

              • @Fuzzy69: You hate Belong or Superloop? I've not had any issues at all with Superloop, and tough to churn away as I'm on their grandfathered 100/40 plan from pre-covid.

                • @chriise: belong was shit!..
mate how did you tag me the first time?

                  • +2

@Fuzzy69: It auto tags the person you 'reply' to when you're 4-5 comments deep

                  • @Fuzzy69: @aafarup you will get a notification when someone replies to you. Sometimes it will auto tag the username. If you want to use @ username tagging you can turn on the beta feature

          • @Fuzzy69: Asus looks better for Wifi speeds though..

        • @chriise Deco and Archer use 2 different apps. The Deco M5 is a router. Why do you want the Archer AX20?

          • @Twix: I'm not sure - reviews look good and this price seemed reasonable. My current 6 year old router keeps dropping out since i upgraded to a gigabit plan.

Edit: actually i think it was a few of your comments I came across when searching previous OzB posts last night!!

            • @chriise: You can plugin the Deco to the nbn box. Who is your ISP and do you use their VoIP phone?

              • @Twix: I can plug the Deco M5 into the NBN NTD?! I had no idea….. I have FTTP, with Superloop, and I don't have VoIP (don't care about phone)….

                I have the Deco M5 mesh, 3-pack.

Edit: I also use the router to plug Ethernet cables into wall to cable up different rooms in the house. That wouldn't be possible with the Deco I don't think. But some sort of network switch would probably be a cheap solution to that.

                • +1

@chriise: That will be a great setup once you unplug the 6 yr old router. After that plugin one Deco to the nbn box, in the Deco app select dynamic IP and the dropouts should stop. A 5 or 8 port Gigabit switch is pretty cheap.

                  • +1

@Twix: Just tried this out tonight and my speeds more than doubled; down speeds increased from 275 to 615! I had no idea this whole time! Thanks dude… Now I have an undelivered router to return to Amazon…

  • My current router is tplink archer vr600v but it doesn't fully cover the whole house. Will it fixes this problem if I buy this router? HFC connection I have here and looking to get the 1000/50 connection. 4 people and about 10 devices in the house. All devices are wifi connection.

    • if ur house is big then go for mesh setup

      • Do I just attach the mesh routers to my current router or mesh router will act like a router +extender?

        • as far i know VR6000 doesnt have mesh support. and not sure if u can use vr6000 with HFC… seems like its for FTTN. talk to some experts in the group..

          • @Fuzzy69: TP-Link Archer VR600 can be used on all the different nbn types. It is one of the reasons ISPs use them.

        • Both are an option. As for what you should do depends on your answer to the following questions. Who is your ISP and do you use their VoIP phone or mobile only to make phone calls?

    • Depends where the HFC point comes in and size of the premises. To get anywhere near Gigabit over Wi-Fi your devices need Wi-Fi 6 too.

  • Oh man, I just bought this router last week on Amazon for $169 :(

  • Now $163.43 :(

  • This was back briefly at $130.90!
    Hard to keep up!
