Interesting how this sounds like more of a deal than "our $159 machine is actually worth $90 max; actually probably not even that so buy one and we'll give you 150 free pods to make up the difference"

    • +22

It's quite common actually. It's called a loss leader strategy. You sell the product, in this case a coffee machine, at a loss in order to attract new customers so that they buy the real money making product, the Pods.
Printer and Console makers do this all the time

All i can say is I did not finish my first box. It says my favorite intensity and flavor but not really.

    • +3

      What do you mean?

      • +3

It seems they picked pods with an intensity level (number, how dark a roast the bean is) and flavour they normally really enjoy, but they didn't enjoy the pods in this instance.

  • +5

Bought this on a similar previous deal:
Double capsules good, but bulky. The biggest issue they can be more expensive and rarely on sale and often more than the price of just using two ordinary sized capsules. Just as well it takes ordinary capsules as well.
A lot of stores don’t carry the double capsules either.

But if you can get the double capsules at a good sale price I reckon they taste better. And the machine in this deal is essentially free and takes any nespresso pod.

Also Bought this deal a while back, mostly for the machine, but the pods are decent too.

Machine was ok at first, however after a few months the pod compartment would get 'stuck', resulting in the pod not being pierced properly and plain water coming out instead of coffee. Also the lever mechanism became impossible to clamp down. Pretty sure it's because all the hinge parts are made of plastic, and seize up after prolonged use.

Wouldn't recommend the machine if making more than a couple cups a day.

    • +4

Yeah I got the machine last year in July with the woolworths deal.
Been making decent coffees daily since then. At least 2 coffee's a day.
Found the starbucks pods the best for taste though.
Also yeah I found that when I would switch from a XL double pod to a regular pod, the piercing plate would get stuck so had to poke it with a knife or something to release it. Otherwise it wouldn't pierce a regular pod.
If you're just using regular size pods then the machine is fine. For $90 I'd say it's perfectly fine for someone on a budget.
I've just replaced mine with a DeLonghi Dedica last month. Not cause it wasn't working, just because I wanted a fresher grinded coffee taste.

    • I have been using it for the last 2 years with all kinds of Nespresso Pods available in it.. Currently using it with the Reusable Nespresso Pods.. Although it's pretty annoying when it gets stuck, it normally happens usually when you haven't emptied the water drain basket or if you didn't clean the residue coffee ground in the pod compartment.. Do give it a try..

    • You actually have to buy a cleaning agent from them and run it through the machine once every 6 months. Once I do that it works an absolute treat again

      • I descaled regularly, but that has nothing to do with the mechanical failures of the lever and the pod compartment getting stuck :/

  • Got the last deal with the milk thingo on the side. I have 1 or maybe 2 coffees first thing on weekends so this does the job perfectly. Happy with it so far.

  • Got this last time and it was definitely worthwhile.

Double pods are great but it's a shame they rarely go on sale and more stores don't sell them

  • Might be a better idea to add 8x20 packs and 1x10 pack for $94 for an extra 20 pods.

    • How do you get the extra 20 pods, you can get 2 X 100 packs for $90. Why would you take 170 pods for $94 ?

      • +1

Definitely way better. I didn't see the bigger pack.

  • +1

No milk frother this time? What a jipp!

    • +4

The milk frother is crap anyway so no loss. It would make a pile of foam with no milk and not proper froth. So you basicallyhad a bit of coffee in your cup and a lump of foam sitting on top.
I had a Nespresso frother from my old machine and that works on the L'Or unit and makes perfect froth.

  • Single shot capsules, pack of 10 - $6.00

Because a pack of 10 can often be purchased at the ozb benchmark of $3 (or 30c/pod), what this means (for anyone used to paying 30c/pod) is that you're actually paying $90 for the machine if you go ahead with this deal.

However if the supermarket in your area never discount pods 50% then this may be a good deal?

    • Not sure if I follow your math. How are you paying $90 for the machine if you're getting free pods? For me, I bought 200 ristretto pods for $90 - that's only $10 or so than I'd normally buy them for. So that means I'm getting ~$80 worth of coffee plus a new machine for $90.

      • if you buy the 100 pack at $45 (so buy 2), you'd be paying $30 for the machine (I'm using 30c pod).
        EDIT:
I click replied to the wrong person. sorry. if you're only paying $10 then you would normally, then yea you would be paying $10 for the machine

    • No you aren't, you are paying $45 for the machine in this scenario. Unless for some reason you continue to buy capsules at $0.60 when you can get them for $0.30

      • The reason would be if you buy into this deal at 60c per pod. You're right though, $45 for the machine and $45 for the pods - I stand corrected. God help my math.

      • Other than the Amazon L'Or deal from the other day (which didn't have the ristretto one included), I haven't seen these pods at 30c. 45c seems to be the run rate ($18 for 40 pack or the regularly discounted 10 pack for $4.50 each). I'm happy with the order I just placed, 200 pods for $90 with free machine!

        • use discounted woolworths e-gift cards for an additional 4% off.

          • @cheapbloke: I'd rather have a free coffee machine than an extra 4% off via e-gift cards.

  • not as good as last time.. I got the similar deal but the 'latte' version (the one with the frother) was free then. Like the coffees it make.

    • yes, the Latte coffee machine RRP $249, milk foamer included.

  • +1

Coles and Woolworths usually have 15% - 50% off on Lor coffee pods, which means not worth getting from the official website.

    https://www.woolworths.com.au/shop/search/products?searchTer…

  • I think OP's description doesn't do the deal much justice. You can buy 100 ristretto pods for $45. So make that 2 and you get the machine for free. That's a very similar price you'd pay at Woolies/Coles when they're on special.

  • +2

I've had mine a year now, it's been a champ of a machine. A couple of coffees a day (so 3-4 pods a day)

I will say recently I started not getting coffee coming out when using a regular (not XL) pod in it. It wasn't piercing it.
The Philips site suggested putting in an XL pod to reset the pod mechanism, and that worked great, all fixed. I was about to throw the machine away so I'm glad I didn't.

  • Can I brew only one single cup of coffee using this machine ?

    • +1

      Sure can.

    • Yep a single cup with one pod or use a double pod and make an extra strong coffee.

  • Why choose this when Coles not sells coffee capsules that fit the Aldi Expressi at an amazing price in combination with Flybuys offers.

  • Cheers OP. Got a pack of 100 and two packs of 50 for variety. Total: $93.

  • Any good deals on a milk frother to go with this?

  • +1

Last week Woolworths had a deal with the $249 model. Isn't that a better deal?

  • +1

I think the recent Woolworths deal for the double shot machine with the milk frothed was better. But this looks good for those not wanting the milk frother.

    • I assume there were no specials on the capsules at Woolworths while that deal was active? If so this deal might be better for some people since you could get the capsules from this deal in 100 packs which would make it cheaper?

      • The 10 packs were $4.50, 25% off I think. This is still a good deal. And if you’re familiar with the coffee and already know what you li,e 5;3 100 pack would be good. But if you’re like me and don’t know how it tastes, buying 100 of one type is risky.

  • After I put in my order I received a 20% off generic code "LORLOVERS20"

    • It doesn't work for this deal- "A discount has been applied to this order. You can’t add another discount.".

  • Can't find offer from link. What am I doing wrong?

  • can someone please link me to wherever it is you're finding the 100 pack of pods on the site? i'm unable to locate it

    • Only certain coffee pods have the 100 pack eg Onyx, Columbia. You need to look for ones that say from $$$ and from the dropdown choose 50 or 100

    • +1

If you type 100 into the search it will show you which ones have the 100 qty option.

  • 1,000 machines claimed, no longer available

  • +2

Heads up for anyone who received pods with a best before date before the end of August (within 2 months). L’or accept these being “short dated” and will replace them for free.

    • Cheers! Got 10 x 10 pods expiring in 1 month! Do you just contact them through their website? How did you send the pods back?

      • +1

Contact through website and explain that they will expire before you can use them. They will ask for a photo of products, you don’t have to return them :)

        • I was debating whether to do that yesterday, LOL. I just sent them a message and also took some photos so it's all ready to go haha. Thanks again! :)

  • I got 200 pods with expiry date of 02/10/21 and they refuse to do anything about it.

    • Yeah they’ll only accept them being short dated if the pods expire within 2 months of purchase I believe.

      • Most of mine are expiring next month. How did you reach out to them Bargainaholic?

        • +1
          • +1

@Bargainaholic: Thanks - have been sent replacement pods as well. You'd wonder if it's worthwhile for them at all to have a B2C play, if they have this many about to expire pods in their warehouse, they probably don't sell a lot via their site. Anyway, a bit of a hassle but a good outcome. Will just need to up my coffee habits!

  • Still haven't received my order yet - no shipping notification either :(

    • +1

Mine went from nothing since 27 June (ready for processing) to being delivered this morning. I did get a shipping notification in the 27th.

      • Got mine too
