      • Not for everyone.

        • Yep and those wont buy it

This kind of shit is why we currently have a global chip shortage lol

    • John connor sent me back in time to say he approves of every echo clock purchase. Hahaha

    • is this using the same chips as ps5 and NVidia?

      • Silicon is silicon, and that's where the shortage is.

      • Yes.

  • about time this went on sale =)

I've had one for a year and love it, what I didn't love was the constant battery drain. It chewed through 4x Aldi alkaline batteries every 2 months. I found an A/C adapter with the correct voltage/amps and wired it up to the battery terminals, it hasn't skipped a beat since. Got to love that it's connected to the internet so it automatically moves forward and back for daylight saving time.

    • Can you share the A/C adapter specs? Or even better, where did you buy it?

      • +2

I did some math to work out the specs, 1.5v per AA battery x 4 = 6v and I winged it with the amps but got one that was 1 amp and it works well.

The actual adapter I got was a charger for a Wacom tablet from eBay, I just cut the end off and stuck the exposed cables onto the battery connectors with blutac as a temporary solution but that temporary solution is still going. Some people cut dowels and put metal on them to make an artificial battery but that seemed like too much work.

This is the eBay description: "WACOM AC Adapter A10W-0610I 6V 1A for CTE-630BT Bluetooth Pen Tablet"

One day I might pull it apart and solder an A/C barrel connector onto the back of the clock and fit an end to the cable

        • +1

Assuming it also works with rechargable batteries then you should have been fine with anything between 4.8v and 6v (and probably a little bit higher). 1A is a huge amount of current for a AA battery. This thing should only use a couple of mA - otherwise it would be going through batteries every day. You could run this off a USB actually - and most people have lots of USB chargers around - you just need to make (strip the end off) a cable.

  • Thanks OP, had been thinking of getting one for a long time. Lets see how it goes, if not happy will just return it.

This or Apple Watch Series 1 from JB deal? :)

    • -1

      is the apple watch $25?

    • +6

This. It will look great strapped to your wrist with your echo sticking out the backpocket.

  • -2

watched the video. although I am guilty of buying plenty of useless junk myself, this thing looks incredibly pointless.

  • Thanks just ordered

I've got one outside under the pergola. Love it. No hassles with DST, always the correct time and I use it as a barbeque timer (alarm) with two or three visual timers. I'm using it without issues since November 2019. The downsides are the battery usage and you need an Alexa device.

    • I bought one when it first got released in Oz.

I always have issues with adjusting time on it when daylight savings starts/ends. I have it connected to an Echo Spot in the same room, and it just won't change the time by itself… or maybe i'm just impatient and expect it to happen immediately (yep, i'm up a 3am and expect to see time going backwards or forwards), but half an hour later, nothing, so I end up taking it off the wall, removing the batteries and only then does it adjust the time.

As far as battery life goes, it's not too bad. I've only ever had to change them twice since getting the clock and do use the timer quite often.

      • Did you set up your timezones correctly in alexa?

      • +1

The very first ones that came to Australia used a time library based on the pre-2009 DST changeover dates for NSW (we changed DST dates differently, depending on your state or territory!). This meant it normally changed a week out of sync.

Amazon replaced mine with a unit with newer software (looks identical). Pm me if you'd like me to dig up my email chain (tech explanation and consumer law comments) .

        • I had no idea they updated it. Makes sense. My settings have always been central standard time on all my Echo devices, so when Daylight Savings would start or end I’d be waiting for it to change itself, but even the next day it was still an hour ahead/behind.

It’s just a minor annoyance, but if they’re happy to swap it over for a new one, that would be great (still have box too).

Any help with that would be super appreciated!

          Thanks!

  • That is an ugly designed clock.

  • +2

I have so many watches and devices that tell the time but I still want this, sigh.

Got one last year (hoping price would drop at some point and could claim price protection)

Yes, it's pricey for what looks like a basic clock. However, if you use an Echo device for timers in the kitchen this is one of those things you don't know you need until you use it. At 50% off I'd say go for it. If you don't use timers, then no there isn't much point getting this clock.

We had a cheap timer on the fridge, that broke so started using the Echo. Being able to set the timer while hands were full in the middle of cooking turned out to be quite handy but always had to ask Alexa how long was left on the timer when we wanted to check. Now at a glance can see how long is left (can also handle multiple timer display).

I have had a couple of times where it's lost its bluetooth pairing, and it's a bit of a PITA as you have to use the Alexa app to delete it and start the pairing process again. My Echo is permanently connected via BT to some in-ceiling speakers so I don't know if that has anything to do with it.

    • supposedly it connects via Bluetooth to the alexa device

      • Yeh it does. I just remember reading where people had Echo speakers connected together via BT causing issues when paired with the clock as well. Though thinking about it now it may have been issues with the speaker connections dropping out, not the clock.

        • Only BT version 5 can support multiple simultaneous pairing. BT version 4 can only pair one at a time. I guess old Echo devices are using BT version 4

          • @Sathish9: I don't recall which speakers they were using. I'm using an Echo Dot Gen 2 and speakers and clock work ok together, just 2 or 3 times the clock lost pairing in the last year.

  • Thanks op

  • This makes me wonder - Why hasn't Apple brought out a smart clock as yet?

    • +1

The hour hand is free with the clock.

But the seconds hand is $39.

And all other features require IAP through the App Store.

      • jokes aside, I think the automatic syncing of an analogue wall clock is a great feature that brands other than Amazon might be able to implement really well.

  • +3

I've had one of these since they came out. If you want an analogue clock that sets its own time and changes for daylight savings automatically, this is it! This is what I wanted and it does it well, it's like magic. - It has lost the connection once and it was a pain to reconnect, but other than that each time it needs a new battery it reconnects automatically - eneloops of course :)

  • thanks op bought a backup. ozbargainers please use your spare eneloops on this one. the battery runs flat every 8 months or so

  • or get one at Kmart for $2.50

    • are kmart selling these?

  • I'm a big Alexa adopter but even I have my limits.

    • +1

The other half loves this for the kitchen. I was sick of asking alexa how long left on timers. She doesnt respond if less than 10s left. It's not bad for $25…

  • +1

Got one, thanks op! Glad I didn't get it on the first 2 days of Prime Day!

  • If this itself was an Alexa device itself as well I would definitely grab.

  • Cheers, OP. Got one for the kitchen. Ktichen one will replace the other wall clock that always go slow, LOL.

  • +1

Personally, I could not see the utility of such a thing at all!
I have Google Home Max, and Google Nest Hub Max and various Google Home Mini and Amazon Echo devices, and setting a timer or knowing the time is just a device away. And with the ubiquitousness of the mobile phones, who really need a wall clock? That too, for something that does nothing over what you already have in the devices.

  • The clocks were striking thirteen

  • i have an echo dot what to do with this?

  • 90 day limited warranty. Do these things stop working after 3 months or something?

    • From the Amazon Page.

      Warranty and Service:
Echo Wall Clock is sold with a 90-Day Limited Warranty provided by the manufacturer. This Limited Warranty does not restrict or alter any non-excludable statutory consumer protections or rights you may have, including under the Australian Consumer Law. Use of Echo Wall Clock is subject to the terms found here.

  • Good summary OP to wait twice a year for one of the main benefits : - An analogue clock that sets its own time and changes for daylight savings automatically

    • And it regularly synchronizes with echo to display accurate time.

    • Yeah daylight savings alone is worth it

      • Just move to Qld, no DST

        • Sure if it costs just as much I would move.

  • Does anyone know if it works with a Sonos Beam that has Alexa on it?

    • Check this review:

      https://www.techradar.com/au/reviews/amazon-echo-wall-clock-…

"It’s worth noting, however, that the Amazon Echo Wall Clock is currently only compatible with Amazon’s own Echo speaker line. If you’ve got a Sonos One, or a Fire TV Stick with voice control, for instance, they won’t be able to get the clock working properly. So if you don’t have an Amazon-branded speaker, you’re out of luck here."

      • Thank you for checking; yeah that's too bad…

  • +2

Great deal buying it for half price alone

  • +2

    Received and finished the installation.
It’s really cool for the price I paid.
Only concern is how soon do I need to charge batteries.

    • Did you buy it yesterday? And got it today?

      • -1

I left the first comment on this deal and it was yesterday. Answer to you, yes.

        • That was very quick! My clock will arrive on Saturday. Could be a logistical issue.

  • -1

    $9.95 and you have a deal…

  • Been quite a good item for us, it's functional if not that pretty really.

  • Any tips on ordering whilst on holiday? I'd like to have it delivered next week, not next day. I'm back on Tuesday, enough time to sit in an Amazon Parcel Locker?

  • Got the clock, we use a lot of timers at home with kids so this one is great for that purpose. I never had a wall clock at home so its actually kind of convenient to have a wall clock now :)

  • pretty happy with the clock
