Funny that they are able to hold a sale but not respond to warranty requests for a year now.

They are good products in principle but I have had various hardware and software errors with poor support, and now that support does not exist.

Yeah things went downhill support wise when they were bought out by new owners about 2 years ago, from memory.

Also important for people to note regarding future-proofing, LIFX doesn't utilise / support Thread (the new connectivity bandwagon that Google, Apple and everyone are moving forwards with) and it's not possible to add support via firmware updates as there's a physical requirement.

      • Do you know of internationally available lights that do support the new system? I am moving country soon and will probably want to purchase some lights from a different manufacturer. Do Phillips support it yet at all?

The new range from NanoLeaf do… "essentials" I believe they're called - haven't looked at pricing etc at the moment as I'm content enough for now with my old LIFX arrangement.

    • Haven't had experience with warranty issues as I haven't had a product fail, but they are built well IMO. On the software side, they are excellent probably one of the best user experiences (even though I mostly use mine directly in HomeKit)

      • Android experience is not good… the app is so erratic.

        • +1

Yeah, the app is pretty crap. Check out LifxTools (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.jeisfeld.li…) - it ain't pretty but it's pretty solid. All my lights (around 20+ and a strip) are operated via HomeAssistant and/or Google Assistant (voice) and that combo is very reliable. The hardware is best in class IMO. I just wish it was zigbee based rather than wifi (and had support for Thread - although Lifx have talked about possibly joining Project CHIP which suggests future hardware may support Thread/Matter).

Poor experience with warranty too. For the extreme cost of them, I wouldn't go them again.

  • Anyone else noticed Lifx sort of slowly disappear from Bunnings shelves.

    • In addition to the support issues noted above, I think they have also been facing supply issues too. Or possibly Bunnings no longer want to deal with them if they offer no support.

They're back now, new packaging made them go on clearance in many places.

      • Thats why I was watching thinking they would get a heavy discount (I have a house with only down-lights :( ) .. but there were just a few lame small drops and they just seemed to dwindle away and not restock.

        • Really depends where you are and how old the stock was, I've seen drastic drops in prices but its store depndant.

  • +1

They are on clearance at Officework too

  • I wouldn't touch these.

Parent company, BUD, has been suspended on the ASX for many months.

      ohhh, hadn't heard about that development… interesting…

I mean, as long as the hardware itself doesn't fail and you're happy to get your hands dirty with HASS or using the API, they are actually pretty damn good products…

I’ve got more lifx globes than sockets.
    I need help.
I’m deleting my OzB subscription for Lifx :(

    • Bayonet or Edison? I got screwed as a renter buying like 12 bayonet colours a few years back, then having to move out only to find most places use edison, lol.

You can buy adapters for them

      • A healthy mixture of both :)

And yes. Look for adapters. They do exist :)

I’ve been using them for years, since the original. Yeah I’ve had my share of failures. Turns out the Gen3s don’t like being horizontal, when the original did. Had 4 gen3 a19s go like that before I figured it out but yeah, I am quite happy. No hassle with warranty. Must admit it was before Covid and the companies financial “intrigue”…

Their recent firmware which made white restore and HomeKit more reliable was very welcome.

I’m running a dedicated UniFi AP on a separate SSID for 20+ bulbs. Not an issue at all.

Such fickle devices. I have 9 LIFX products, including a Beam, that I’ll be slowly switching over to Hue and Nanoleaf. More time troubleshooting the devices than using them 😕

    • What has been your issue with the Beam? I picked one up when I saw it on clearance at Bunnings for a ridiculous price, but haven't got around to putting it anywhere yet.

got 2 of them both failed, one in a few months and was replaced, the other which just exceed the warranty, both of them are under two hundred hours, wouldn't recommend it

Appalling support, I have been waiting two months now! :(

I find all this quite interesting. I have a few LIFX Z and I really like them. I do have problems with them occasionally but they are normally quite stable. Anyway, the deal is there for anyone that wants it!

  • I have 16 of their downlights and they are sensational, I love them however they were notably more difficult to set up with Android compared to Apple.

I have heard lots and lots of bad things about their lightstrips though so have avoided those.
