T.T I was waiting to buy this when i move to my new place. But, the new place will only be completed in 2022. Not sure why I am here when i should be saving to the max…(incase of interest rate going up).

    Just my experience/opinion with Edifier so far;

S350DB - Underwhelming in every aspect, including the sub. The sub failed within a couple of months, returned under warranty. Appears to be a lot of QC issues with this model.

S3000Pro - Mind blowing in every aspect. Slave speaker developed a rattle/vibration in the woofer driver after a month. Returned under warranty. I think I was just unlucky, reliability seems pretty solid. I could only find two forum posts with the same issue I had.

S2000MkIII - Currently $359 with this deal, I’ve ordered a pair. Seem like the sweet spot for the money - essentially the S3000 with less power.

Thanks for the detailed feedback, much appreciated

i disagree with the s350db, I was actually surprised with the quality of them when I first got mine. this is coming from someone who has a hifi setup with dali concepts and an svs2000 subwoofer. for the price I think it's a great deal. i'd highly recommend it

      • +1

Is the S2000MkIII worth the extra over the s350db?

        • Not if you need a sub. The S350DB is a very well balanced speaker setup and nothing in this price range beats it for entertainment or desktop use, especially if you need a subwoofer. The person above clearly had an issue with their one and are basing judgement because of that.

          • +5

@ThatsCheap: Nope, my opinion was based on what the S350DB sounded like before it developed the issue. I’ve got no issues with people disagreeing with me though. The QC S350DB issues are very real though, worth looking into.

Look at the actual power and FR of the S350DB sub. It’s not that impressive on paper or in real life. The bass on the S3000Pro’s absolutely killed the bass of the S350DB. Sub doesn’t always = better or deeper bass.

            • @aja12: Fair enough. I don't disagree with what you say about the S3000Pro, but that's in a completely different price range to the S350DB. Even on the heaviest of discounts, it's like double+ the price of the S350DB above.

I would also always recommend buying from a reputable place that are known for their warranty and don't cause headaches. For example, I paid $360+ for my S350DB from Amazon AU, knowing that if I had ANY issues with it within 30 days or did not like it, I could easily return it without any headache. Dealing with some stores, or Edifier themselves could be a headache for sure.

I disagree too, I was shocked at how good this little system sounds. The whole package is extraordinary for the price.

I would wholeheartedly recommend the S350DB to anyone. I bought mine to use as speakers for my TV. Well, it sounds so good that I regularly listen to music through it just for fun. I have spent stupid amounts on music listening stations in the past, and this system doesn't match them, but it's also costing about 5% of what those other ones did. It's an amazing system that sounds very very very good.

        • I challenge anyone to find a better brand new 2.1 powered system for under $300.
Unless you want to look at second-hand or spend ~>$300 you are not going to find many competitors.
Best alternative IMHO are the Swan M50Ws, but they are not on sale today.

          • @id0: Yeah the Swan one is nice too, I thought about getting that but decided on these as they feel a little more mainstream for support etc. The best thing is that you can't tell that there is a separate subwoofer. It feels and sounds truly integrated like it was perfectly matched to the speakers. Such an incredible sound system.

Thanks for the reviews. I have an Edifier Luna Eclipse and experience so far (~2 years of use) has been very pleasure. Next time I upgrade I'd be moving up Edifier's $$ spectrum

[Edit] For anyone interested, Luna Eclipse is this one (https://www.wireless1.com.au/edifier-e25hd-luna-hd-bluetooth…). Impressive sound relative to its price and form factor (plus a bit of aesthetics). Base is ok but not thumping loud. Obviously, if you drop 1k you'd get better sound than this.

FWIW to my un-audiophile ears, I bought the s2000 ages ago when it was first released for $600. It was worth it to me at that price and its definitely worth it at this price. I use it as my TV speakers (and general Bluetooth music listening speakers).

The lack of a subwoofer may turn away some people who want to crank up the bass, but to my ears, it's already rumbling deep. Very occasionally (probably 3 or 4 times in my several years of owning the s2000s), the speakers crackle when it tries to play a noise too low for it, like in super big movie explosions.

Aside from that, no complaints from me. I've been thinking if I should upgrade to the s3000 for a while now, but i have resisted…so far…

    • I would also disagree with the assessment. I went from Yamaha YAS207 soundbar to S350DB and it has been such a good upgrade. My speakers are hooked on to the TV, but given the sound quality, I frequently use them for music. Link to my previous comment regarding this speaker.

  • Can they be compared to any logitech set when it comes to sound? Just trying to get a picture of what they would sound like

    • +6

Going from my logitech speaker setup to the S350DB was a massive step up. The level of clarity difference between the two is not comparable at all, the Edifier speakers are significantly better. The bass levels are similar, but the S350DB is much cleaner, and the punchiness is not distorted, while it was with the multiple logitech setups I have used.

      • Thank you

      • which Logitechs?

    • +1

The Logitech speakers don't compare in the slightest. I wouldn't hesitate to get this if you budget allows.

      • Thank you

  • Damn, I’m looking at the R1280DBS or R1855DB, neither on sale :(

    • I got the R1280DBS in the last sale. Amazing, especially paired with a sub.

    • I thought the 1280DBs were on sale, they're $169 on amazonA at the moment?

  • Is Edifier the best bang for buck PC speakers on the market? It's hard to find something similar from competitors without buying the awfully plastic Logitech/Creative branded speakers.

    • +1

The Swan M10 are supposed to be good.

      • -1

They lack oomf. Very underwhelming bit of gear.

        • +1

          That's not a fair comparison.
          Swan M10 2.1s are $200, while the Edifier S350DB 2.1s $300.

If a users wants brand new 2.1s, does not want to deal with a dedicated amplifier these 2 are both top tier bang for buck options available.

          Swan M10s
          - White aesthetics available
          - <$200
          - great sound

          Edifier S350DB
          - Black aesthetics available
          - ~$300
          - greater sound

A fair comparison would be the Swan M50Ws, but they are not on sale today.

  • Is this work better than similar priced soundbar for living room ?

    • +2

Yes, because it is impossible for a "soundbar" to have better bass than a dedicated subwoofer.

      • +1

But aren't there plenty of soundbars with dedicated subwoofer? And also if you want atmos effect then bookshelf speakers won't work. I am also on the same boat on whether I should purchase something like a Naim Mu So or a soundbar.

        • +1

          soundbars with dedicated subwoofer?

Well, it is not a soundbar anymore - now it is a soundbar with a dedicated subwoofer haha.

          • +1

@Blue Cat: I believe if you are comparing to a single soundbar you are correct.

  • +1

as a s350db owner, I highly recommend this set, good build quality and great sound quality. worth every dollar.

  • +1

"$10 cheaper than previous deals https://www.ozbargain.com.au/product/edifier-s350db"

It's been cheaper slightly in the past, but look mates, its a pretty damn good buy. :D

  • Thanks OP got S350DB 2.1 - hopefully slighly better than my AusioEngine HD3s. It's currently showing Backorder so I'm not sure how long we gonna have to wait.

  • I use a Logitech z-560 (in a 2 speakers and sub,2.1, configuration). The control pod is dieing and I'm wondering if the s350db or the s2000mkiii will sound any better - any thoughts?

    • -3

Two Styrofoam cups attached by a wire would sound better than the Logitechs.

  • Can anyone recommend a wired Hi-fi system for a living room for $350-500 or less? Doesn't need to be anything amazing, just looking for the best value at this price.

How about these? They're over $900 on Amazon but less than $500 here

    https://www.apollohifi.com.au/speakers/bookshelf-speakers/el…

    • Do you already have an amp/receiver? If so, what is it & is it suitable for the application?

The ELAC's are a passive speaker so need an amp.

If you don't have an amp & are okay without a sub (or add a sub later), then the Edifier S2000MkIII for $359 would be a great start.

      • The only thing I have is an old Sony multi channel AV receiver (STR-DE400) which still works fine. I think this would have a built in amp right?

Any downside to using this with the ELAC speakers? Thanks in advance

        • The Sony has an amp and is rated at 2x55W into 6 ohms, so will be fine for those ELAC speakers.

Given the Sony is ~15 years old & may not last much longer, if you've got a max budget of $500 for the next few years, then I'd say the Edifier S2000MkIII would still be a very good alternative (assuming it has the right inputs for what you need).

  • Anyone used these with a record player? Looking for a minimal setup with just the player/speakers.

    • +1

This is one of the inputs i'll be using these for, a record player and my PC.

    • +2

Just received mine yesterday. Setup is easy to my pc and record player. Had a couple of hours of use and I can say this speaker/sub combo is definitely worth the money even on RRP. It trumps my AudioEngine HD3 in every way and couldn’t be happier.

  • Can this speaker set be used as a home theatre audio system? Would it be any good? We have a new Sony super-duper TV and need better sound.
