Strange. Press the install button but didn't install on my Surface Book.

    • Same. Install stall.

      • +1

After you press install, it launches MS store and also shows INSTALL again, on the left side does it say, you own this app?

        • +6

Just found it in my Win10 Start list. I'll never use it but glad it's there.

That's why the Microsoft Store sucks. Apps are bad and expensive, installing has so much issues. If it's not free, who will buy it?

    • Same. Press install nothing happens.

    • Did you see the requirements?

OS: Xbox One,Windows 10 version 17134.0 or higher

      Architecture ARM,x64,x86

Recently had a similar issue - clicking the "Install" next to the app, under "My Library" (three dots, top right of MS Store App) worked a charm.

Works for any app you've purchased previously but not installed on the PC.

    • I had to go to the Update & Security area of my laptop and manually download the latest update (it's typically automatic so I'm not sure why this one isn't) and that seems to have fixed up this install button issue.

    But MSpaint is free.

Talking about free apps, check out Screen Recorder pro

Very powerful for a free app. It's excellent.

Thanks, will take alook at this as I record my Cashback and Shopback purchases………as proof of purchase for the many that fail to track.

        • Damn … and how do you keep record of them ? You have folders/excel files etc ? Do they accept screen recording as proof ?

          • +2

@ChipsChicky: Yes, I make a note lf them in excel, date invoice, amount owed, a link to the Ozb deal and I name the recording the same as the receipt and save it in a folder.
Yes they do accept Vids as proof PLUS, one can grab screen snaps from the vid if preferred. I only do this for larger amounts as fed up of failed tracking and this doesn't take me long.

Also consider Greenshot (opensource) if you just want an excellent screen capture tool.

        • +2

          ShareX is good too.

        • I agree. Greenshot is my go to sceen capture program. It's excellent especially when one plays around and gets to know all the settings and what it is capable of.
It doesn't Screen record though and only useful for static shots.

      • Is there any way to install Microsoft apps like this without tying my device (my PC running Windows 10) to my Microsoft account?

  • +4

Got it. Not installing just collecting.

I already have Visio, is there any point in using this?

  • +1

I got this app when it was free here some years ago. As a newbie to mind maps back then, this app was very easy to learn and it got me into mind mapping.

But by the time I got to my fifth mind map, I started hitting the limitations of this app compared to more powerful software like Visio or Dia or freeplane. If I recall, the biggest limitation back then was the inability to export to Visio - not sure if that's still the case. For that reason, I ended up having to redo the mind maps I made using this app.

    • Do you think Visio is a better mind mapping tool? I will see if office 365 has it.

I thought Visio was a different type of app. Mind map apps are to help visualise relationships between concepts/thought/whatever you are thinking of, whereas Visio is a general purpose diagram. It probably does mind map as well but not specialised in mind mapping

      Appreciate the comment/feedback

Once you get the basics of mind mapping and more free form tool can be more powerful.

Also is on O365 and is fairly widespread across the corporate world. I wouldn't be surprised if they include it within E5 eventually.

  • anyone know a good mac version / equivalent

Don't know if helpful but Miro has become quite popular recently and may be useful?

      • Thanks will look into it

      Xmind.

  • +4

    Thx. Bought 4.

  • Thanks op. got it

  • Very popular? But has 3/5 stars?

    • Just like the Fast and Furious movies.

  • as a regular user of this, it's useful for simple diagrams and meets basic user needs. Exam scaffolds, flowcharts etc. But the UI is far from perfect and at times infuriating.

  • Is there any way to install Microsoft apps like this without tying my device (my PC running Windows 10) to my Microsoft account?

    • Yes. I installed via a Hotmail account direct to PC (does not require managed PC account). Set one of those up.Not sure of other ways and only noting for what I did.

  • Xbox One?

  • +1

I must say - paying circa $30 for this would not feel good - even for free I'm contemplating uninstalling within about 5 minutes. FreeMind is far more intuitive albeit Java reliant Mindmapper - disclaimer I have been using it for many many years now. Pretty much everything can be done from keyboard controls including what I believe is the most important feature for a mind map program - the ability to re-organise (move children between parents) simply by using CTRL-<arrow keys>. The way we think things to start with is not necessarily the way we want them organised forever…

    • +1

I believe Freemind is abandonware. Freeplane is an active fork.

      • Good point … shows you how long its been since I updated it !

  • Can someone compare it with SimpleMind for Windows ? I have SimpleMind for android and its very feature rich.
