  • Whats illegal in the UHF world?

    • basically anything outside the cb radio frequency, and/or doesnt have the acma tick/certification

    • Stuff like BaoFengs where you can program in any frequency you want, typically available for under $40.

    • There are two ways that using a radio can be legal - the radio is ACMA approved or the operator is. Pretty much every radio sold through a normal retail outlet is ACMA approved. eBay and even Amazon (less commonly) tend to be where unapproved radios crop up.

    • As above, plus anything above 5W for starters.

  • This unit does not include Duplex functions.

Reviews for the distance don't look good

    • -1

Reviews on Anaconda Amanda? Purchasers should understand that handhelds all have significant distance limitations, some more than others. If you want this as a fixed substitute then an external aerial is a good idea.

I certainly wouldn't pay retail for this but at $70 it has a place. Caravaners use handhelds for parking aids, some people use them to be able to communicate with a base while walking, or keeping track of older kids, or travelling with others. They are NOT a substitute for emergency comms and shouldn't be relied on as a safety bandaid.

This from AusCB for $124 delivered is a better unit overall (bigger battery, longer range aerial available etc), but it's 50%+ higher cost if that's an issue.

  • For a little bit more I found the Crystal 5W UHF to be pretty good.

  • Someone tell me why a camouflage radio is a good idea?

    • So if you drop it in a forest you will never find it and have to buy another one?

Tougher to find the black since we totally f'ed up our forests.

It's a borrowed American thing, which (along with the limited battery size) makes a mockery of TRX's marketing spiel as "designed for Au and NZ conditions".

    • if youre a hunter, the radio isnt bright orange?

People who buy the radios like the colour

  • Sold out in many stores
