  • Insane price on the xbox

  • the hack ie select pay by afterp but using ebay giftcard, still works or not?

  • what does “seconds” mean?

    • Usually just box damage if anything (but could mean refurbished?) but the two times I've bought seconds stock from Sony it's been brand new sealed condition.

    • It’s refurbished by Sony.

They don't fix anything. They assume people who returned them as new didn't know what they were talking about and send them out as 2nds, and it's you people who discover if there really was a fault or not. I"m talking electronically , not obvious physical problems. Terrible customer support

        • +1

I had very mixed results with Sony seconds. Couple of items were like new but worst I received was a large speaker with a power cord that was clearly cut into half way with a knife or similar. Only found it after trying to get it to power up (quite dangerous if you thing about it). At least they did not make any dramas for the return.

I got the xm3, they were broken, returned, and they sent me a 2nd broken pair, I requested a 3rd pair, they would only refund. It took them a month to exchange the first pair. Never dealing with them again

      • +3

Damn thats irritating. You would think a company like Sony would at least do a simple QC before sending out "seconds"

      • yeah, and in the days of Covid, I wouldn't buy any second-hand in-ear headphones!

        • They're not in-ear. They're over ear.

NM, I see that both are listed in this deal.

      • +2

Sony, Steelcase and Telstra, worst support i've ever had to deal with.

  • +1

Is there much difference between the III and the IV for the headphones?

    • would love to know this before pulling the trigger on the XM3

    • +1

      Yes.

    • main difference is the bluetooth (single connection for XM3, multiple for XM4) i believe.

      • Besides that, the main difference is actually the form factor, as these are smaller and lighter and don't fall out of your ears, like the XM3. The battery life has been significantly improved and they also support hi-res audio via the LDAC codec.

        • +3

Assuming they are talking WH not WF..

          • +1

@xmchen: Good point, since the question is about headphones. My answer was for earbuds.

    • The XM4 has wearing detection, which automatically pauses the music when you take them off, has upgraded bluetooth 5, 10% larger earpads and has the latest audio processor – the DSEE Extreme.

  • So the only notable feature in the Google Nest Hub 2 is Sleep Sensing and it will require a paid subscription, in 6 months, with pricing yet to be announced? Nice try, Google.

    • Have to pay for their acquisition of Fitbit somehow. Me, I went and bought a new Nest Hub first gen on run out price before they ran out :)

Seems like people have really bad experience with the refurb headphones from Sony.

    • +1

No.. I've bought 2 refurbished headphones and both times they were new.

I guess if you don't wanna risk it.. better to not buy it I guess

      • I bought some a few months ago and they've been perfect. Literally like new and no problems.

  • Is the XM3 headphone or earbud? Picture shows earbud?

    • Earbud. WH is headphone and WF is TWS earbuds.

  • +1

Avoid these refurb headphones, mine was having static noise after one months and Sony refused to refund. I believe these are returned ones from retailers.

    • did you ask for warranty after using for a month??

      • +2

Yes, I sent it in for warranty repair and it was a pain, it took over one months to "repair", but the service centre said they could not repruduce the issue and just returned it to me. Then I found out it's actully a common issue with XH1000XM3/4 and Sony just does not acknowledge it.

        • Sounds like a design problem rather than a refurb problem?

          • +1

@Buy2Much: Yes, but the chances of failure of these refurb ones are higher

            • @cloudzhou: My purchases of TV and camera were ok. ‘Good to be aware of other people’s experiences though.

    • How about warranty repair?

  • +1

The over the ear version is $224, all time low?

WH-1000XM4 Wireless Noise Cancelling Headphones (Blk)

    • maybe include these are also seconds

  • +3

Will never bother with a Sony seconds/refurb again, unit received was DOA. Was an absolute PITA chasing Sony up for repairs (took 2 months), they sent me a different unit where the right earcups produce no audio. They took ages to refund me after that.

Spend extra 20 and get qc35 brand new IMHO.. even though I've gotten new headphones previously

    • +2

      XM4 > QC35 imo:

      • sound quality is very comparable

      • automatic pause when you take off the headphones is really nice

      • comfort for me is perfect on the XM4s; as good as the QC35

      • build quality feels slightly better with the Sonys.

I am only negging this deal because of my horrific experience with Seconds^

  • If I purchase this with Afterpay, does my invoice get split into 4 parts or do I get a single tax invoice for the total amount from eBay? Thank you.

    • +1

      Single invoice, full amount

  • +1

Just an FYI, there is a $30 sign up bonus with $50 spend if you are new to Afterpay like me. Managed to get the XM4B for $194.40 delivered.

    • How did you manage to get the signup bonus?

The Afterppay page says that it has expired.

      • I think he means referral bonus, can't believe I didn't use a referral to sign up.. Urgh

  • Do you need ebayplus for this deal? Coz its not working for me at the moment.

    • No you don't need ebay plus. I have just ordered one.

  • It would appear I lucked out in the seconds draw :(

    Ordered 28/06 arrived today (01/07).
Look perfectly fine, box a tiny bit dingged up but nothing seconds worthy. Became pretty apparent why they were returned, right ear makes twitchy dial up (think hard drive reading writing noise) when ANC is turned on. Super weird because when it was doing a firmware update it disappeared (with ANC still on) but once updated came back in full force.

It's not the worst, I could live with it, but uhh I think I'll just return them, technically bought refurbished not faulty so yeah.

Edit: It's definitely somehow related to Bluetooth as when I click buttons in the Sony app the noise is amplified directly after the click. Also when it's not connected to any Bluetooth device the noise isn't there. Hmmm

The previous sale on March I purchased the wh1000xm3 headphones. They arrived as new but the noise canceling was faulty, the replacement was working ok but was heavily used with lots of marks and scratches. This time I ordered the xm4, they also look brand new and having used for 6 hours they seem to work flawlessly.

      • Dang sorry to hear about the XM3 but great you got lucky with the XM4s!
After more testing with different devices I know it's the XM4s that are at fault, I'll go through the process of eBay replacement hopefully come out on the good side and hopefully doesn't take too long either.

How long did your replacement process take roughly?

        • +1

20 days later I had the replacement.

  • Just got my XM4
So far so good! Basically brand new. I can't see any use or marks on these.
