I recently purchased first a ASUS RT-AX56U, then exchanged it for a TUF AX3000.

Terrible experience, my ISP provided Archer AC1600 was more than 2x faster than both in the same position doing LAN transfers.
Both machines couldn't saturate my 100mb/s internet connection on the 5GHz bandwidth.

My machines are using the Intel AX200 (2x2) and AX201 (laptop). I picked channels with no interference.
Very disappointing, I wasted over a week playing around with every conceivable setting, research suggests the Broadcom CPU's these guys are using are basically beta.
Emailed Asus on the weekend, wait and see what they come back with, but for the time being I would avoid if you think you will see a performance improvement.

    • I'd be very curious if anyone could inbox me if they upgraded from an AC machine to any Asus AX machines, personally I think the speeds they advertise are completely in-achievable (even in ideal circumstances), and would like to collect evidence to log a formal complaint with the ombudsmen.

      • I've got a RT AX-58U. I'm not noticing the speed stated, although it was about a 4 times speed increase from my Telstra smart modem. Getting around 70mb transfer speeds (Plex server to a mycloud harddrive connected directly to the router).

        • Im getting the same on ax88u 5ghz transfering 30gb iso through 4 internal walls.

Are you running stock Asus firmware?

Try Merlin's firmware which is basically the stock Asus firmware but enhanced and tweaked. It isn't a total replacement like Open-WRT or Tomato and is widely acknowledged to be an excellent option for Asus routers.

I have been using it for years with zero issues (and it's updated regularly).

      • I did go down this rabbithole, but the issue is this software is just a branch of the Asus software.
I roll-ed back the firmware to the software that Merlin uses for the latest branch, and it's still the same issues.

I don't see the point of downloading and changing firmware to get even half decent improvement, this is marketed as a generational improvement, yet I am seeing on two machines performance from the last generation.
Clearly the marketing needs to be fixed.

    • That's very surprising. What signal strength are you getting?

      • As reported by Netspot, was getting around 54 to 60.

        • With AX86U I got 70MB/s with -52dBm, but my NBN connection tops out at around 88MB/s.

  • Any one received any news on the item being 'sent'?

    • Just received an email back from them saying they are awaiting stock to arrive which they 'expect this to be around 8th-9th July'. Which sucks because that's the est delivery date and I was even keeping my hopes up to be able to receive it before then but looks like it'll be very late.
