Westpac Altitude Reward Platinum CC, 130K Bonus Points, $3K Spend on within 90 days (AF $49 first year)

1130

Just notice Westpac have raised their bonus points for the Altitude Platinum to 130K (usually 80-100K). Probably counter the ANZ deal.

Note, no fee if you are an existing customer - you can just open the debit/transaction account with them.

          • @mathematicalcoffee: final update: after visiting the branch to show ID, staff didn't know what they were supposed to do with it and didn't have an internal number to call, so they called the public number and waited on hold for 20mins, I was told that my ID had been verified and now my application could be assessed and I will hear back within 1 business day. 3 business days later and no reply I call them up to chase them up and they finally approved my application over the phone. They think that whoever set up my bank account typo'd my birth year. We'll see if the digital card appears on my account within 2 days like they promised, because they said the physical card will probably not reach me until the new year (more than a month after application and too late for boxing day sales which I got it for). What an ordeal.

Approved in 48 hours, hit the spend in a few days with the digital card, and bonus points in the account within a week from application!

    Really quick turnaround.

Redeemed the points for a annual fees rebate for $650. I'll use the card a bit more to get 5000 points just from my normal spend, and redeem for another $25 rebate, then churn.

  • Got auto rejected by st george. maybe can wait till first week jan to apply to this one…

  • If your transactions, that will push it to the 3k minimum spend, are still pending after the 90 days, do you still get the 130k points?

    • Probably not. I called up as I hadn't received bonus points within 90 days and they counted 90 days from the minimum spend posting date rather than the transaction date.

After a decent application experience and first several weeks, I’m now really frustrated with Westpac. They elected to block my card and online banking and asked me to come into the branch with ID — in the middle of the holidays, when the branches are closed for the next two days, in the midst of escalating covid cases, when I’m away from home. I can’t even sign in to the app to access a statement that’s due soon.

  • Westpac is hands down the worst bank I've dealt with in my churning career. Spent hours in phone queues getting the card delivered and had to give multiple follow up calls for them to manually add my bonus points after over 90 days of hitting the min spend.

Never felt so good redeeming $750 in annual fee rebates and closing the card.

    • You mean $650?

      • Racked up 20k points through spending (it was double points for Air BnB). So yea, $750 in total

Finally got my 130k points after 90+ days and submitting a complaint - mine were not auto-credited, after a couple enquiries of them telling me to wait the 90 days, they still did not appear.

Had to contact the rewards team and they had to "escalate the issue" - Just FYI if anybody else experiences the same.

  • Card opened on Jan 5, Hit spend on Jan 9/10 after last transaction posted. Points his account 1-2 days later.

  • Existing Westpac customer, applied and conditionally approved. Hopefully won't take too long for full approval.

    • Update: Got a call back to check on a few other things, but finally approved for $5,600. Looks like banks are tightening up and scrutinizing applications a bit more.

  • Anyone redeem lately? How long does the confirmation email sent to you when you redeem your points? I've been waiting over 1hr and still no email received yet after i checkout the shopping cart. Email address is correct and already checked spam folder.

  • I had a very seamless experience with this application. Applied on 1st Feb and was conditionally approved (opted for min line of credit), uploaded docs and was confirmed the next day by SMS. I was able to use the digital card straight away. Hit the min spend after a few days and the bonus points were received a few days after the charges were cleared. I have claimed my points for the "annual fee rebate" (aka statement credit to $650) and that was processed in a few days. I've converted the remaining points to Velocity, which I'm waiting on. Once those clear, I'll be closing the card.

For some background, I have excellent credit history and have held a Westpac CC in the past.

    • How long did the rebate credit into your account?

      • A few days, less than 5 business days - don't remember exactly.

I will note that I called Westpac a day or two after the transactions cleared. The Customer Service Rep said it will take time for the team to credit the bonus points, close to the 60days as stated in the T&C's. Clearly, I knew this was not the case as reported on OzB.

  • Are there still interest free days for new purchases when a balance transfer is held?
