    Shipping kills the deal

      Agreed.

Hoping Amazon AU/eBay Plus Store would price-match.

Sneaky can't even combine it with another item with free shipping like one of the gaming chair currently on promo with free shipping to get free shipping on it.

  • PC Master Race, Arion Brotherhood? I'm onto you ASUS…

    This price is ridiculous.

You can get an M.2 enclosure for less than $20 shipped https://www.aliexpress.com/item/33060352308.html?spm=a2g0o.s…

I bought one recently (without the RGB bling), and it works perfectly.

Based on the description of the Aliexpress one, it only supports SATA-based NGFF SSD/B Key NGFF SSD.

While the ASUS ROG Strix Arion supports PCIe NVMe-Based/M Key/B+M Key.

Most of the recent M.2 SSD are M key (Crucial P1, Samsung 970, Kingston A2000).

It also has slower transfer speeds. But for me the big thing is it's a no name brand. I'm not trusting a nameless brand for anything to do with storage, that's way too risky.

Full disclosure I haven’t tried the cheap enclosure, but I do own this version, and whilst I personally don’t care about the LEDs and would prefer not to have any so it’s slightly healer, it’s an excellent piece of kit.

I transferred ~500GB of data at basically max speeds as it was all movies and it got to Luke warm temperatures. It’s strong, reliable, and cools the drives amazingly well. I can’t recommend it enough. I’ve had plenty of drive enclosures over time and this has to be the most premium feeling to date.

Will a cheap enclosure also work? Sure. But I really am more than happy to pay for this product because unlike many others the parts used are actually premium and perform excellent. The thermals truly are amazing, and that will extend your drive life when doing larger transfers often.

I even paid $80 for it as I bought it a long time ago when it was a newer product. One of my favourite PC related purchases tbh.

These are a solid piece of kit, weighty too they at least feel like they are worth the price in your hand.

  • Son of a bitc…..I just ordered this a couple of days ago for $80 :(

  • This is the best looking enclosure to me. But competition has caught up. While they don't look as good and as sleek as the Asus ROG, something like this Orico is dual protocol and tool-free: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005002702074728.html

Deal post for the Aliexpress model you linked

I personally went with the clear case model, which cost more but has the RTL9210B Controller.
