The Sapphire Edition doesn't just have sapphire glass but also has diamond-like carbon (DLC) coated steel on top - so they're essentially indestructible and virtually impossible to scratch.

I got a 6X Sapphire for $700 using JB Hi-Fi gift cards during last year's Black Friday and, honestly, it's the dumbest smart watch I've ever owned (and that includes the original Pebble) but the hardware is amazing, including the battery life, and it looks great with training gear or a suit (I just change the watch face to suit the outfit). I also love the size of the 6X - it's not just larger but also has higher resolution.

    • Just curious - the Garmin website says that it has either Gorilla glass or Sapphire: https://buy.garmin.com/en-AU/AU/p/641479#specs

I presume sapphire would come with the Sapphire Edition? Or is this incorrect?

Also, when you say "dumbest" smart watch. What else is it really lacking?

      • it is designed as a sportswatch (navigation, fitness, battery life, etc) before the smart features…

      • Yes, gorilla glass on the regular model, sapphire (and DLC) on the sapphire edition.

Also, when you say "dumbest" smart watch. What else is it really lacking?

It's not that it's lacking anything, it's just that I found most of it's countless features are useless. It's the only fitness watch that keeps telling me to move every time I'm driving! For crying out loud, it has a GPS - it should know I'm moving. Sleep tracking is the worst I've experienced, by far. Workout rep counting never gets it right and you have to edit the count after every set, which is a pain. I also couldn't figure out how to exist the workout mode (and I'm an IT professional) - friends who have one told me that had the same issue. There are other annoyances that I don't remember as I've gone back to training with my Apple Watch 3, which is simple but effective.

        • Turn off the move alert?

          • @oodLes: I actually want to be reminded to move - just not when driving!

It's not a smart watch, it's a multi-sport/fitness watch. In terms of training/sports/fitness, it craps all over the AW. I've owned both, just sold my AW6 and kept my F6X. With the F6X, I've turned off all those useless features as you say - notifications, move notifications etc. And purely use it as a fitness watch. I run a lot and use the F6X to set up intervals (imagine trying to do intervals on a touchscreen Apple Watch), pacing for a course, and have important running metrics I look at during my run (AW is limited).

Sleep tracking is average, but I probably wouldn't rely on anything other than Fitbit or Oura for sleep tracking, and even they wouldn't be that accurate. Pulse Oximeter during sleep is good though.

" I also couldn't figure out how to exist the workout mode (and I'm an IT professional) - friends who have one told me that had the same issue." It's as easy as pausing/stopping the workout, and then pressing back/save. You couldn't figure that out & you're an IT professional? Not even sure what that means since you'd know how to Google surely. Unless you meant something else, since you used the word 'exist' instead of 'exit'?

But yeah AW is way better in terms of being a computer on your wrist. Depends what you're after. Oh, and no idea why you'd want the watch to try and count your reps… so pointless. When I am lifting, I just start a strength working and leave it there. All you really need is Time and HR for weightlifting workouts, the rest is pointless.

"I actually want to be reminded to move - just not when driving!" - Sounds like the AW is a better fit for you mate. People don't buy a Fenix so they can be reminded to move, they buy it so the battery won't die on them when they attempt triathlons, Iron Mans, Marathons, Ultramarathons etc.

    • Also, another thing to note, the Sapphire Edition is equivalent to the Pro version as well…

however, i have seen online people comparing that the Sapphire Edition's glass is harder to see under direct sunlight.

I haven't compared with the non-Sapphire Fenix 6's but I can attest that its actually harder to see than my old Forerunner 235

This seller is out of stock, I ordered mine in the last afterpay deal and the seller is now saying delivery date is 30th July.

    • Is this for the Venu 2 or Fenix 6 Sapphire?

      • I ordered Fenix 6 Sapphire. I don't know about Venu 2, I'd say better check with the seller before placing order.

  • Any word on stock from this seller?

  • Looking at there recent feedback, they dont have stock of the watches, there are a few unhappy people posting negative feedback on this company.

Read some mix reviews on the company as well. Just emailed them, we'll let you know if there are any updates.

    • Mine is saying sent, no email saying it's being delayed. Due for delivery tomorrow but i have no tracking so this may be consistent with the comments and feedback. I'll also update if any changes.

Same here, according to their customer service email, they are saying all Garmin products are completely sold out:

All out of stock until July 30th across all resellers in AU and NZ.

Garmin Australia are out of stock.

        Regards,

        Linelink Online Customer Service Team

Tried asking for a consignment number on ebay, will see if they respond.

        • Looks like 36 were sold, that's around 20k in the last sale invested in them with no guarantee of receiving the product. Not sure what the deal with marking it posted is. Red flags are up now and no chance of getting this watch anywhere close to this price anytime soon.

          • @ajh: Exactly! Perhaps there is some incentive to posting an item. Nonetheless, we still have a buyer guarantee on eBay, so we can always dispute. With such a huge amount of people disputing, I doubt eBay won't take notice.

          • @ajh: I just got an update, my Venu 2 is otw which is good news. I should receive it by tomorrow, according to the tracking info.

6 sapphire price gone up. $1049 before discount.

Price has gone back up everywhere, kogan/dicksmith, linelink, rebel, myer

Damn my insatiable appetite for an inane level of research before pulling the trigger! Ah well, surely a sign I don't actually need it!

  • Their page does say if you want tracking then you need to request it via email apparently.

Thanks to those of you who purchased this watch at this very low price. Unfortunately Garmin are out of stock of this product due to the unprecedented demand.

The good news is those of you who have ordered have locked in the lower price saving yourself hundreds before the sale ended.

The bad news is that Garmin have advised that the stock could be up to four weeks away given the current environment.

For those of you who have placed orders and would like an update, feel free to reach out via the Contact Us page on our web site, we always respond promptly.

Pretty dodgy and dishonest selling practices, you advertised an in stock item which mind you is still in stock. Took our hard earned money then marked it sent. Even before this item was even sold you were never going to fulfil delivery. Now none of us have an opportunity to look elsewhere because the sale is over and you’re holding our money ransom. Also you can’t blame Garmin for your businesses dishonest practices.
