Gigabyte B550I AORUS PRO AX ITX Motherboard $199 + Delivery @ Shopping Express

150

I've had this motherboard in my shopping cart for ages. It was sitting on a nifty $229 + Delivery, while I had a 3 day battle with myself on whether it was better to get this vs the eBay Afterpay discounts.

Alas, the eBay deal expired but Shopping Express decided to reward my struggles with this bargain. I believe this is one of the better AM4 ITX boards at a fantastic price.

Thought I would also plug this spreadsheet which really helped me divide my opinions even more with its abundance of information about ITX builds/components:

Note: SE charges 1% extra on cards but also does ZipPay and DD fee free. Also not too sure about delivery fees but it was $11.30 for Metro Melb.

Bought this last week from SE for a couple of bucks less (as part of their 30% off motherboards deal).

I now have 2 computers with this motherboard. Best value.

  • Is this good for 5900x?

Providing you have a big enough cooler to fit in your mITX case, it's great for the 5900X.

I have a Cryorig C7 cu cooler w/ Noctua A9x14 fan swap mod for my 5900X in a 7L mITX case, and it's not enough, I undervolt to get 4.1 GHz all core at 1.00V and I'm getting 50-70⁰C (yes I know it's not right way to OC/UV on Zen 3, but I don't like seeing temps bordering the 90⁰C mark)

I think at the minimum you should probably have at least a Big Shuriken 120 mm cooler or similar, but that requires low profile RAM.

      • What CPU clearance you got? 47mm with axp-90 copper would be good

        • Yeh 47mm, not a lot of real estate to do anything

I regret buying my RAM before knowing what my cooling needs were

      • Dan A4?

I had a 3700x with the Cryorig C7 G with a 2500rpm Noctua A9x14 from the NH-L9 (retail box A9x14 only does 2000 rpm) and I found that to be inadequate that I upgraded to the 92mm asetek AIO to get reasonable cooling and sound levels.

But I upgraded to a slightly larger ITX case (9.5L) to fit a 240mm AIO before I got a 5900x.

        • I have the Chinese Dan A4 clone, the ZS A4 v1

I keep my Noctua A9x14 spinning at 1300 rpm or less and it's fine more or less noise-wise

I have the Asetek 92mm AIO lying around, but I'm waiting until PCIE 4.0 riser cables become cheaper before I change it up again (because I would have to move my SSDs from their position to above the pump.

          • @Fire Chicken: like this one? https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005002758163643.html

It's a good price and much cheaper than the linkup. ADT-Link made the Gen 3 risers for the Dan A4 and a whole bunch of other cases.

I want to order one, but I know if I do, I'll need to take everything apart just to swap the riser. At the moment it runs really well…so I don't want to tempt my self to do it. It would also really tempt me to get a 2TB NVME SSD to put in the back of the motherboard for more storage as it would be a good opportunity to do it when swapping cables.

            • @Daemos: I know there's issues with the reliability of these Gen 4 riser cables operating at X16 over distances longer than 100 mm or something like that (and I need one around 200 mm)

              • @Fire Chicken: with the ADT-Link? This is a new riser a hand full of people have them with the FormD T1 without any issues (185mm required) and they have used the current version of the Linkup (v7) at 220mm or 230mm (due to the connector design) without issues as well

Seems to be sold out 😭

  • Ive always wanted to build an ITX system, but every PC i build just ends up being a big, bulky, heavy mid/full tower.

It's addictive, once you fit all that into a tight space you just wanna see how small you can go

    • +1

I love the smaller footprint of ITX cases, but the downside is basically eveyrthing for ITX systems costs more and there is more part planning to make sure everything fits into the case.

only thing missing is Front USB-c port, but other than that, it's a solid ITX for the price.

I'm still hoping Asus one will come down to similar pricing…
