  • it's just use samsung harddrive (which is not good). Not a samsung brand. The title is quite misleading

  • Cheapest on staticice:
    1TB Samsung drive w 32MB cache = $149
    Midte MDT-PM368HPS = $129

So you save around $7. Not bad

  • If you are buying this unit you may want to check here first and then if you find its what you want, then afterwards (has good tips on updating etc)

    • Yup, I read that before and apparently they have all sorts of problems with their default firmware.

Personally though, I would wait until the price for mvix or mediagate wireless media centre to drop, then I'll get it. For me, copying/streaming files over WLAN to the unit is important. But the price tag at the moment… :(

      • The Mediagate mg35 can be found on staticice foe $172 - just add hard drive makes it fairly cheap also it has wireless and ethernet built in, and support is good. Have support group at [email protected]

      • Hi Pauly,
Just a friendly note, with these things firmware update is paramount, MVIX and Mediagate are notorious for stagnant firmware development. So my advice is to spend a bit more than left out in the cold. Forget wireless it will take AGES. Even wired it's still too much for me, so I got a hdd caddy to copy stuff over. I got an Istar HD.

        • Doorknob - just question your Mediagate firmware development opinion. They have been upgrading this on a sorta 6 monthly cycle. I wouldn't call that stagnant. As for Mvix I have no info. You might want to look at the yahoo group as it has regular updates on the firmware and also input from users for addition to development of the firmware. my interest here is only as an owner.

      • Thanks for the heads up ozpete and doorknob. I have been contemplating getting a wireless media centre for a very very long time, but they have always been too expensive. So looks like I won't be getting one anytime soon, if at all.

Btw ozpete, I don't think the MG35 has built-in wireless. I think the one you were referring to is the MG350? That starts at $180, so still reasonable.

To think of it, it'll be most cost effective to build a mATX PC and put it next to the television. Especially with PC parts so cheap these days.

        • Correct about the wireless and MG35- sorry

  • These media players are complete rubbish, they were in a previous deal posted on ozbargain. You may as well save some cash and order another cheap one from DealExtreme. Try looking into Istar, Popcorn Hour, and M-6500a/M-7000a. Unfortunately in media players there are no cheap options.
