  • How do you sharpen the blade on these things?

    • +37

In 2021 you buy another one.

      • +3

Yep, or buy a new blade which will cost more than one of these…

In the old days when they generally had offset teeth people would use a tool to reset the teeth and sharpen them with a file… I believe most modern ones are fairly straight hardened ground teeth which you cant do much with…

        • +3

Correct. Can't be sharpened. Hardened steel so throw it away.
*If you have your parents or your grandparents saws….different story as they can be sharpened.(and access to a saw doctor.Yes there are still a few around)

    • +2

I bought a tool online for a bow saw. It realigns the teeth. It's called a tooth kerfer. Or tooth setter.

      Works a treat.

  • +3

    This is a good deal

    • +3

It's a cut above the rest for this price.

25 year warranty? Wonder what that covers?

TLDR: "faulty worksmanship in manufacture and/or defective components"

      Long version:
General terms and conditions: Fiskars provides a manufacturer's warranty to the initial purchaser for each new product produced by Fiskars that is sold by an authorised Fiskars supplier in Australia. This warranty provides such initial purchaser with a guarantee against faulty worksmanship in manufacture and/or defective components for the warranty period from the date of purchase. The benefits given by this manufacturer's warranty are in addition to the other rights and remedies of the consumer law in relation to the goods to which this warranty relates.

      Making a claim: If any product supplied by Fiskars is found to be defective due to faulty manufacture and/or defective components within the warranty period, Fiskars will repair or replace the product to the customer providing;
      - proof of purchase is provided to Fiskars or its authorised supplier of the relevant goods;
      - the fault is not caused by misuse, neglect, adjustments or modification by the consumer;
      - the consumer presents the defective product at the premises of the authorised supplier of that product; and
      - failure has not occurred through normal wear and tear.
The product will be repaired or replaced at Fiskars cost however any costs incurred to obtain warranty consideration or service is the consumers responsibility, including shipping and handling, travel expense, lost time, or pickup and delivery.

Additional statutory warranties: our goods come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. Hi OP, is this any good for cutting human bones? Asking for a friend. Thanks

    • +6

Its a bow saw not a bone saw!

        BONE SAW IS READY

    • +6

Depends if the friend is dead or about to be dead.

    • +2

Yes it is very good for that purpose.

    • +2

According to a "friend", its strong enough for bone, but not strong enough for hand cuffs.

Ordered x2 for those Necro / Sopranos / Goodfellas moments

  • +2

Thanks OP. This is a real bargain. For those that have Powerpass you can get it for $4.75.

    • Can you use Powerpass and Bunnings gc online for C&C (in case runs out)?

      • I don't see any option for C&C on my PowerPass account so I assume it is only available at that price in store. Personally I've ordered 4 for C&C @ $5 as it's a bargain either way.

    • I couldn't see how to use Power Pass?

      • It's Bunnings trade account. You'll need an ABN and can sign up here https://www.bunnings.com.au/trade/powerpass

        • +1

it seems having an ABN is not enough. You also need to be either a tradie, or "those who require materials for building services, or who are undertaking their own build or project as an owner builder"

          Can someone confirm please?

          • +1

            @aec: Confirm

          • +2

@aec: Not really. I sell online and require polishing solution for the items I sell so I selected "Cleaner" as my trade and I had no problems setting up an account. I don't think they check these details as my business name has nothing at all to do with cleaning.

          • +4

@aec: I have an ABN and am not a tradie and had no problem getting Powepass - no questions asked.

It's worth getting if you can.

            • +2

@R4: Same here. But I needed to register a business name as well.
First attempt I tried, signed up online and they wanted me to show them a recent invoice or quote. I gave up then.
Second attempt, I registered a business name in addition to the ABN, and then went to the trade desk to sign up. No questions asked.

            • @R4: Thank you guys. I will give it a try. In the next 12-18 months, i will need to do some house renovation work (a DIY type….)

        • I have an ABN for 3D Printing or building objects out of plastic. AKA "Builder"

  • good find OP Thx

  • +1

Thx OP. Might need it, someday.

  • Thank you OP! Going to have a good use.

  • These are usually razor sharp when new and are very handy for camping.

  • +1

I… saw… this was a good deal so had to buy one

  • Thank you OP, got one.

  • If only it was a pruning saw for me… it might be worth getting one purely for the blade hmm. I have all the 73cm bow in the shed. Never tried Fisker… how does it compare to irwin tools?

    • Fiskars is a premium brand, at least equal to Irwin.

      • See my comment below. This is just rebranded Chinese rubbish made for Fiskars.

  • +1

Got one last week. Very sharp and made very short work of the pieces I needed to cut. It's a bit on the shorter side though for the full strokes and I can see it getting annoying pretty quick if used frequently. Pity no sales on the bigger versions.

    • The size is probably why it is on clearance but for the price it should pay for itself in no time if someone has no better option.

    • +5

It's a bit on the shorter side though for the full strokes

      I lol'ed

  • Don't know why I need it, but I bought it

  • +1

I suppose $5 is a great price for anything made by Fiskars - even the badge :p

    • It's not made by Fiskars and it's not made in Finland. This is cheap rebranded Chinese junk.

      Source: purchased one this morning.

      • Is the saw actually any good at cutting thick 10-15cm branches?

        • It will do it but it will be hard work and not efficient. You need a chainsaw.

  • Just use a sawzall…

  • Thx OP. Got one more my spare hacksaw.

    • +2

      It's not a hacksaw.

      • Thank you, you are right.
I already have two hacksaws, and this is exactly what I need.

  • Does not work for SAW parties.

  • Any good for hacking through lamb bones so it can fit on the spitt?

    • Hacking up spit on the lamb… and you wonder why no-one comes to your parties.

  • I gave this saw, at full price. I used it to cut back thick tree branches. Very good and easy to use.

      OzB users in a nutshell.

      • +2

We can cut out of a nutshell with this saw…

        • Use caution around human body parts.

          • @RSmith: I'll keep that in mind when manscaping.

      • Well, it's $7 to replace the blade if it breaks (with a Cyclone branded one, which may be worse than Fiskars), so figured I may as well buy another one for spares.

Doesn't negate the fact that I don't have anything to cut…

  • +5

The Fiskars 360° Servo System Grass Shears is reduced to $15 too from $29 and $43 according to PriceHipster

    • +1

This is handy for pruning scrubs. Bought one. Thanks!

    • I ordered this 2hrs after placing an order for the saw. This is ready for pickup but radio silence on the saw. I have a feeling cancellation email incoming.

  • Don't know why I need this when I have already electric pole saw and reciprocating saw with pruning blades, but bought it anway.

  • Bought one now want to cut

  • just bought one from bunnings.

    heaps of stock available.

please note: this is made is china , not made in finnish.

  • +2

    As lazydesi stated above.

I just picked mine up and attacked a tree. It cuts well but is definitely not your traditional fiskars quality.

It has fiskars written on it but when you look closely it says made in China for fiskars.

It's just a rebranded cheap Chinese bow saw. Don't get your hopes up. For $5 it's still good value but not any better than the $8 Saxon branded saw.

  • +1

I have one of these with a spare blade. It's in the shed. Bought a couple of years back to cut a ~100mm branch on a citrus tree.

It's yours if you want it. The saw, I mean.

Only thing is, the blade retainer & tensioner (flimsy as all fvck) snapped on the second outward stroke.

(I finished up spending a bit more for a name brand one.)

    • Which brand/s did you get and which others do you recommend?

      • I would recommend irwin , bahco , fiskar (made in finland).
