  • "battery health generally above 80%" - any guarantees around this? Or an absolute minimum?

    • +1

Absolutely otherwise the diagnostic software flags it as faulty.
We pay license fees for each unit we run diagnostics on which tests all functions of the Apple device.

    It's a model that's almost 10 years old

My son is using his 2nd gen ipad right now. It's a back-up. So slow to switch apps, but Ok once in apps like YT etc.

    • +5

Probably is and definitely not for everybody, it is what it is and priced accordingly.

      • +7

        priced accordingly.

        $161.95 is overpriced.

Why not get a used Ipad AIR 2 or Samsung Galaxy Tab s2 for the same price or even cheaper?

        There's many on eBay…

Wonder how throttled this would be…cheap but would be a terrible user experience.

I posted this comment on another iPad 4th gen post which was very similar, but I will post it again:

I'm going to downvote and report this because the iPad pictured on the website is NOT a 4th gen iPad! The 4th gen iPad has thick bezels on all sides.

Also, this deal is shithouse. $160 for a nearly 10 year old device with a 5 year out of date operating system??

I had an iPad 4 (free with my UWS uni degree! I attribute my employment success to it lol). It wasn't great from what I remember. Because they rammed the Retina display into the device, they still had a few processor generations to catch up before it was of acceptable quality.

    • +2

This was a minimal upgrade from the third gen that introduced retina, the main difference was the lightning port

      ^^^^^^^

Bare minimum should be $50 due to its age and the fact that Apple have stopped updates. Best you can do with these is jailbreak it and install custom firmware so it's not snail speed

    • +1

Spot on 50 is probably what their costs….

  • +2

Only 1GB. You will not be able to download most apps, even if they used to be available for this model.

5th Gen does still work OK, but not this, unless you have a very specific purpose, and know it will work.

    • Damn my watch has more RAM than that

    • This is exactly the problem. There’s hardly any apps available for these old old models.

  • +2

    Nice screen, terrible everything else.

At some point you just have to admit things are obsolete, this simply won't run so many important apps.

  • Anything below A9 SoC, no one should buy unless it’s for retro gaming.

  • +1

You wouldn't pay more than $50 second hand for this, so @ $161.95 it's more than 3x the price. This is an expensive paper weight.

As someone who has a 3rd gen iPad: Don't buy one, even for $20. They are limited to iOS9, haven't had a security update since 2016, and even when new, were slow. There's a reason they are called "the worst iPad".

Most apps, even if they were around in 2016, won't work as they currently require an iOS version >9, and the app store won't let you download old versions. Apple officially consider them "obsolete" which means no support or repair.

I just use mine for a bedside clock and music player, as I also have a dock/stand for it, ie it's a $10 clock radio.

  • For the speed of these, I probably wouldn’t use one even if it was free

  • This is ozbargain, not gumtreebargain.

  • A multitude of EBay variants cheaper than this.
