They should have put the damn nexus S on the 12 month $19 cap. i would have been all over it!

    • +1

you can still buy it outright for $299

      • +2

Yeah but on the plan it would only cost $228…

        • $100 cashback from moneybackco!!!

      • Could you provide a link for that?

        • +1

Dick Smiths stores (links never work) or I think Voda online.
Or anyone who price matches them (eg Big W)
          It is unlocked and unbranded

        • +1

$299 from DickSmith. It says Vodafone but Nexus S are never network locked.

  • Nice. My HTC Desire Z is a cracking good phone, Vodafone has terrible coverage but will let you unlock the phone straight away for free. I'm currently stuck on a $29/m with Vodafone (@ 200 meg/month), wish I'd waited for this.

    • +1

Note that none of these phones are GSM850 (the 'new network') compatable so if you use it on Vodafone you're going to be stuck with shitty reception (I changed from a 2100-only mobile to an 850 one and it's actually a world of difference - at least in Perth).

  • Is the deal available in voda shops?

    • +1

No. Went to the Vodafone shop in Knox and they said it was online only.

  • +1

can i use moneyback co $100 cashback scheme on this?

    • yes! Should work!
Edit: sorry, jumped the guns :P
the VodaRep says "cashback not possible"

Who knows, i got a $84 cash back when i bought a prepaid pocket wifi2 modem with 3+2gb for $39.00

      • +1

yeah, don't listen to VodaRep, they all give us different answers. Just order through Moneybackco

        • +1

does it show up on ya account?

        • I don't know. I said goodbye to Voda 3 months ago because the network issue but i'm planning to order HTC Trophy as my backup phone, will let you know if it shows up in my Starhere account.

  • Does anyone know whether the $70 included calls are only to other voda & 3 networks? or can it be used for calls to other networks?

    • it's 70 voda to voda / 3, and 70 for calls to others

      • Thank you! :)

  • +1

None of the Android options are 850mhz for new network or telstra coverage? :/

    • -1

      htc desire z is 850?

      • +1

Nope. The DZ is 900/2100mhz (3G).

        • the website is incorrect then, under DZ details found this:

          Network Band
          850/900/1800/1900 MHz 900/2100 MHz

        • +2

More detail at the link bentan posted from GSMArena.

          850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 is for 2G,GSM
          HSDPA 900 / 2100 3G -aka data

So the specs are right but like most sites, they are formatted in an unhelpful way.

        • No, the website is 100% correct.

          It supports 2100/900mhz 3G WCDMA

          and 850/900/1800/1900mhz 2G.

          NextG requires 850mhz 3G WCDMA.

        • So you are stuck with old crappy network?

    • -1

      The Milestone 2 is.

  • anyone know how is the call rate charge per min block? or 30secs.

    • they charge in 1 minute blocks with 38c flag fall, so as soon as you connect a call, or hit someones voicemail it is $1.36.

      • -3

I have heard as soon as there is ring-tone, the timer has started and you will be charged. Is this right for any tele co? (eg. live-connected, amaysim, optus, virgin, Voda, 3, TPG)?

Or only get charged when connected (meaning the other end picks up?)

        • +4

what absolute crap, which moron told you this? why would you believe it? you absolutely do not get charged anything unless a successful call connection is made. same thing with every telco, either mobile or landline, anywhere in the world. gullible much?

  • Very tempting. However, the actual plan is a bit too small for my needs, especially the data. Currently $5/month on LiveConnected gives me more. I've always wanted one of those Milestones, Android with qwerty keyboard. But now that even Milestone/Droid 4 is available, version 2 seems rather old and I don't think there's any confirmation whether it will receive Ice Cream Sandwich update or not?

  • this is a good deal, thinking of the Desire Z. I might get it if I can get some further discounts :)

    • +3

Further discounts! You mean when Vodafone pays YOU money ;)

      • well! that has happened in the past!

  • +2

Be quick - limited stock available on these handsets and when they're gone they're gone

    • Do any other offers/discounts work with this?

ie: RAC membership 10% discounts, Moneybackco etc?

      • I'm afraid not - we've got these down to the cheapest possible price point :)

        • +2

No such thing as cheapest price possible on ozbargain… There is always room for more discounts haha… Jokes. It's a very good price.

    • Thanks- just ordered the Desire Z :)

    • .

    • Hi, I just called vodafone customer service to upgrade my plan (my contract is finished) to HTC Desire, but have been told that this is online only deal. Is that rcorrect? It doesnt state on site that it is online only.

  • just got desire Z, 19 over 12 months can't fault it, would be better if they come in other colour not just the auto-selected machine grey.

  • +3

Isn't the Motorola a better spec'ed phone than the desire z? Why would you not get Motorola over the desire z?

    -faster cpu
    -higher res screen
    -more internal storage

  • should i get desire Z or motorola?

  • so after the contract expires, the phone is unlocked right?

    • Phone can be unlocked immediately upon receipt.

      https://unlock.vodafone.com.au/voila/handsetunlock

      • so im assuming it'll cost the min. 228 to unlock?

        • +3

You sign the contract at $19/mth.

You don't pay anything to unlock.

If you want to immediately break the contract, you pay $228.

    • I thought you could unlock at any time if you buy the phone on contract. and for free?

  • I've got maybe a month or so left on my three contract. I was called and offered an early upgrade. I was wondering if this ould qualify?

  • Is everyone happy to use the existing vodafone since the phones are not capable of using the new 850mhz?

  • +1

Anyone know if the Milestone 2 has a chinese language setting.

Im thinking of grabbing one for my aunty.

    • -1

You can install Google Pinyin from the App Marketplace.

  • VodafoneOnline (rep) ; Is there anyway we can get one of these phones if we are on an existing 29$ contract that has completed?

I want a new phone, but want to use my existing contract.

    Let us know how.

    cheers

  • Thanks got a milestone

    • 11 of em left in stock atm

      • how many desire z's left? and how do u check??

        • +1

I asked about about the Motos when I was ordering.

  • Milestone 2 seems to still have Android 2.2….

    • GSMArena says it's upgradable to 2.3

  • hmm can i port my 3 number with these ?

    • Of course. If you have an existing contract with three you can automatically port to voda on same contract.

      • I tried it , it start asking about CC details without asking if i am moving from 3 or new customer.

        • -1

Use their online callback and talk to someone. She asked me if I wanted to port over

  • How do you even update the Milestone 2 to 2.3?

It only shows an Optus "software upgrade" here:

    http://direct.motorola.com/ENA/SoftwareUpdateSelect.asp?coun…

    EDIT:

    http://blog.vodafone.com.au/blog/motorola-milestone-ii-softw…

    Version 2.2.2? What?

  • I ordered one for mum and did through the Vodafone Direct Call Centre.

At the time I placed the order for Moto M2, the telephone rep said they had 12 units left. I guess my order would take the total unit down to 11 or even less.

I mean $200 bucks for a MOTO phone with an ok spec, can't fault that.

  • good deal if you are after a QWERTY phone

  • If i'm on an optus prepaid sim can i transfer my old mobile number over to this vodafone plan?

    • +1

Yes. You can have it ported over.

  • I'm also interested in knowing if it has shown up on anyone's Moneybackco account or if it is likely to work (in spite of what the rep said).

    • From reports, it could take two months for Moneybackco to get the $$$ to you. So no one will be able to report back right now. Take a risk?

      • +2

MBC and bscoop have a risk of not providing money back, after reading a previous post from the users, they got their issues and deleted like it never happened. I woulnd't bother, you help them get commission but they don't give an honest return.

  • thank you :D

  • +1

    hi
can the rep from moneyback or vodafone confirm about the cashback.
I am a loyal optus user for the last 9 yrs but i am happy to port to vodafone if moneyback providing the cashback. please confirm as my decision will be based on that.

    • I used starthere.com.au and 2 days after buying a desire z there is a $50 cash back transaction recorded under my account.

The website mention it could take weeks before the fund is cleared although it looks promising but I cannot confirm at this time.

  • What happened to the ($29 + 5) X 24 months Nexus Galaxy deal? It got tanked.

    • +1

Removed due to request from OP & Vodafone.

Edit: OP of the Vodafone Galaxy Nexus thread received a request from head office to have that offer taken off-line. No exact reason was given so I am not going to speculate. Maybe you can still find it in the store, maybe it will come back in the next couple of weeks — I have no idea. Sorry for the inconvenience.

      • Thanks for that. The reason they were offering this particular deal was due to a shortage of Samsung galaxy s2s, which is at the same price that was being offered for galaxy nexus. From what I was told over the phone they now have stock of the galaxy s2.

    • Watch this space….

Offer will be back this afternoon for a limited time only!

  • After missing out on the Desire Z, I went into the Vodafone store for a look and picked up the HTC Desire HD on pre-paid for $199. I unlocked it for free. Oh and I just installed the OzBargain app :)

    • That is a really good deal as well; might try tomorrow.

    • Nice deal! Which store did you go to? Or is this at all Vodafone stores?

      • Just tried no go at knox

        • I got it at The Glen shopping centre in Glen Waverley, Vic. I was there earlier in the day and couldn't decide, but when I got home I wanted it so went to Fountain Gate. They told me that it must be a mistake and to go back to The Glen, which I did. At The Glen it was it was displayed at the front of the store and all looked legit. I said I wanted to buy it, he scanned it and it came up at $199. I got the last one, but he did say that he thought the other store in the centre had more. I think that maybe if these other stores actually scan it they will find that it is $199, as I got the impression that it was in the Vodafone system, not just Glen Waverley.

        • Is it free to unlock from Vodafone website?

        • It was free to unlock on the Vodafone website. I was told that if the box has a red unlock sticker it is free and if it is a white sticker you have to pay. Also the handset that I got was originally post-paid and therefore free to unlock.

    • I tried to grab one in NSW but the stores in the area did not have any. I called up a few stores and still a no-go. Has anyone managed to grab the HTC Desire HD @ $199 in NSW?

      • Sydney Airport domestic terminal have it, the guy said the price has just dropped. I wonder if all stores are $199 now.

  • Just got the email back :(
