  • This is the HP Spectre x360 14 (even though it has a 13.5" screen)

    • JB HiFi lists 14" in a different catalogue item.

      https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/hp-spectre-x360-14-full-h…

      • There is no such thing as a HP Spectre X360 13.5. There are the following models:

        HP Spectre X360 13
HP Spectre X360 14 (this one)
        HP Spectre X360 15

This model is new out this year and seems to have overtaken the Dell XPS 13 from a reviewer perspective.

      • Does anyone know what the difference between the 14 (currently listed at $3,299, not on sale) and the 13.5 which this deal refers to (understanding that both laptops have a 13.5 inch display in reality)? That's $1000 difference, and the only difference I can tell is the 14 has "anti-reflection corning® Gorilla® Glass NBT™ display" and the 13.5 has "anti-glare multitouch display". Does anyone know if there is a big difference between these? And is the 13.5 just an older model of the same laptop?

I don't think this is a very good deal for the specs

I have the same impression. I will admit, I haven't paid laser focused attention to the state of hardware and pricing of late, but do try to stay reasonably aware. It seems pretty pricey for the machine they're selling.

      • any recommendations on a similar configuration ?

        • Sorry mate. Not off the top of my head. It's been awhile since I did proper research for a new machine.

    • I don't think the Apple Airpods Max are a good deal for the specs - but jeez should have seen the hate when I mentioned that on the forum I was on (I didn't even neg!)

I think this device is in the eye of the beholder. There was a time I couldn't believe the high prices people were paying for Apple notebooks either when the specs absolutely did not match the price (I think it's better now with the M1 chip).

      It's not just about specs.

I bought one for my daughter and it is a BEAUTIFUL machine not just to look at but the keyboard, trackpad, TB ports, screen all comes together beautifully. And it is quite robust for a non military grade machine. The hinge action is excellent and feels very strong. She's had it for 1.5 years now and it still performs like it did out of the box, never an issue or crash or anything.

Is HP gouging? Look, a little bit for sure - I only bought my daughter's i5 version because it was briefly down to $1599 which I thought was palatable and she'd never use the difference to the i7 chip.

But please believe me this is a really good machine and definitely more than the sum of it's parts.

  • Education store has a similar one
    https://store.hp.com/au-en/student/laptops-tablets/personal-…

Price $2239 less 5% discount (EOFY5%) = $2,127.05 and then there is a Shopback is currently 10% = $1,914.35 The specs is missing 32gb intel Optane

    • good find

      • Probably chat to them online they may match the spec

    • showing out of stock mate

  • Unfortunately not a good deal at all given the specs. I have owned a Spectre in the past and it would throttle hard due to inadequate cooling. Unfortunately build quality was nothing special either.

    • My experience is the opposite of that BUT the one we have in our family is only the i5 and it's not heavily used so will concede that is a possiblity.

As for quality we'll have to agree to disagree on that one, it is far more robust than most of these devices that cross my technician bench. I actually think it's really good quality.

  • The HP store usually have some big discounts prior to EOFY, but they did not seem to do it last month.

  • $2 cheaper at officeworks. I bought from OW the week before EOFY for $1999. The add doesn't mention the 32GB Optane module but it does have Optane+ functionality. The module is in the SSD.

The HP Spectre range are beautiful machines, little pricey yes but never met anyone who hasn't loved them once they have owned one. I use to sell them.

  • Only available in light grey? I much prefer the dark & gold scheme. They say the light grey keyboard is hard to read the keys sometimes. Plus I just think the other one looks far nicer / premium.
