Power Color Colour HD6970 $318

90

With the price of the HD6970 hovering around $300 dollars on static ice.
Cheapest its ever been.

And a RRP of $300US for the upcoming HD7870 replacement, $400AU from aussie stores!

It maybe good to grab a HD6970 while they are still in stock as they are going to be phased out after the 7870 hits.

rumores point to HD7870 being %5 slower

This one could be a very good buy!

        nah - just cash price

so DD/Bpay should still be ok

Never ever pay DD or Bpay, you could have after sale problems!

  • Much cheaper to buy a 1GB or 2GB 6950 and unlock it to become a 6970. This is a well-known mod.

    • 1gb 6950s cannot be 'unlocked' to 6970, at best you can unlock the shaders but this does not work on most modern revisions of the 6950 (2gb or 1gb).

this was only a sure-thing with the reference-design HD 6950s. now, if you want a HD 6970, get a HD 6970.

Generally only works on 2Gb cards. Requires a 6950 with switch to reset the BIOS if anything goes wrong. Many of the cheaper boards lack this switch.

      • The switch is only for flashing the 6970 bios. Which unnecessarily increases the voltage. This is not required to unlock shaders.

As mentioned before it was common practise to unlock the reference cards. Newer models are laser cut so free upgrade to 6970 is a long shot now.
