[NSW] Logitech Harmony Companion Remote $107 in-Store (May Be Nationwide) @ Officeworks, Gosford

150

Hey Guys, just went to my local Officeworks in Gosford to pickup some IT equipment and noticed this on the shelf, seems to retail for $299 everywhere else. This has been my favourite universal remote for years and this particular model has served me well with the battery lasting well over a year!

Spoke to one of the sales assistants who seemed to think it was nation wide but we all know different officeworks stores seem to pick and choose what they put on clearance.

Good price. Note Logitech has discontinued their Harmony range of universal remotes.

Correct me if I am wrong, but this may become an issue in the future with no further updates for new electronics released that you want to pair it up with

    • Looks like its still on their website?

It's definitely discontinued. So what you see on the website is what stock they have left

          @Cute as Ducks…. Correct :)
Logitech discontinued the range of Harmony remotes some months ago.

I purchased one of the last that Amazon AU had on sale for Prime Day about a month ago. I have since checked and don't appear anywhere except for eBay at the usual exploitive Buy it Now prices.

I have a mate with an older Panasonic Plasma TV and his On/off button on his remote has worn down down… he now just unplugs it from the wall. I am about to try my local OfficeWorks and see if I can get one in time for his birthday next month.

Thanks to the O/P for the heads up. For everyone else, think about getting one if you have older A/V equipment. It's a pain in the mule (ass) trying to buy replacement membranes for your remote controls, let alone getting genuine remotes from the manufacturer for your brand of device (TV, PVR etc). Keep in mind whether your equipment is I/R (Infra Red) or Blue-tooth, and in some cases both.

          Peace Out :)

          • @et tu brute: Checkout Ozremote, I was able to get a replacement remote for a random Soniq LCD TV and for a Panasonic VHS-DVD Recorder, and both work great!

      Logitech statement:

“We expect no impact to our customers by this announcement. We plan to support our Harmony community and new Harmony customers, which includes access to our software and apps to set up and manage your remotes. We also plan to continue to update the platform and add devices to our Harmony database. Customer and warranty support will continue to be offered.”

      • That's great in that case. Thanks for confirming. Still wonder how long they will continue to support new devices, you would imagine they would at some point stop all together, whether in a years time or more once their retail partners and them clear the last remaining stock.

Might try to get one to replace my Harmony 350

“We expect no impact to our customers by this announcement…

        Sure. Announcement won't hurt.
        Lack of support will.

  • I remember reading somewhere that logitech is abandoning their remote control business.

Since they have a monopoly over univesal remote controls (or the only ones who make them), does this make it a good or bad time to buy them?

i can definitely say after having this model and the elite, if you are in the market for a universal remote, this one is awesome, easy to use, easy to program, wifi and IR control box, long battery life… perfect!

  • Dropping their harmony range? Why??? It’s surely the most popular universal remote

    • +2

I'd imagine smart home devices like Google home etc has slowed their sales alot

        Add in HDMI CEC

        • +1

that and less devices, i purchased these as present in the day to help people navigate settop boxes, dvd, vcrs, now your remote either says netflix or you press menu and it shows netflix/stan/etc as an icon on screen.

Modern gear got better and easier to use and needing to press line in 2 times, turn on the setup to box, and turn on the amp setting it to aux 1 , then switching your set top box to 10 to watch neighbors doesn't happen anymore.

HDMI-CEC and phone control apps didn't help.

    • Why???

They last years. So I assume sales won't that great.

  • sniff sniff.. RIP Harmony… Hopefully Xiaomi or someone else takes up the reins..

I must have owned at least a dozen of them over the years..

I got another 650 as a spare from this deal last month pricematched at Officeworks after I first heard they were discontinuing the Harmony remotes. Shame really. As I haven't seen anthing similar that are as good as the Harmony range.

  • All available stocks atm

I thought NSW us in lock down. Is this essential shopping?

    • Officeworks is considered an essential business. So can remain open. Whether a trip to Officeworks is essential or not is debateable.

  • I have a Harmony 300 that must be at least ten years old and was sitting idle for the last five. I just recommissioned it and apart from a few sticky keys it still works well and can still be programmed online on their site. Awesome product, shame they're calling it quits .. :-( .. !!

  • Oh I need this bad. My Elite controller is stuffed so I need a new controller. I came upon this on the Logitech website;

Harmony Hub accepts one remote of each type:

One touchscreen remote (Pro, Pro 2400, Elite, 950, Ultimate, Ultimate Home, Touch, Ultimate One)
One screen-less remote (Companion, Smart Control)

So basically I can add the Companion remote to my existing hub and sell off or repurpose the new hub.

  • Apologies to anyone aiming for West Gosford - if they only had 1 on hand this morning, they have none now as I snagged it.
